I doubt that it would just be discontinued, there has been many anime’s that have been made but had been gone/discontinued for many years. Meaning 6+ years isn't too bad tbh. I think there is just a problem with the manga or something like that.
I also believe that it’s pointless to end off with the biggest cliffhanger meaning (it shall be continued later in the future) if I’m not mistaken.
