  • The Muslim holy month of Ramadan is sometimes seen as a month of suffering. But it's actually a month of celebration and community. And that's exactly what Yara Elmjouie learned when he fasted for his first Ramadan.

I’m not a Muslim but I always fast during Ramadan for 5 years now.
    Edit:
Why would I need reasons (and explain to strangers why), despite being non-Muslim and being a passive non-religious person, that I’m fasting during Ramadan - same way I’m celebrating Christmas, Hanukkah & Divali. I only have one religion and it’s called “Humanity”.

I'm an Indonesian Catholic and I love the festivity of Ramadhan, especially when I join my friends for the big iftar dinners. Friends who are otherwise very preoccupied with jobs and adulting and surviving with a lone meal-times will spare more time for others and for joyous dinners in Ramadhan. It was really a month of fun and good foods!

when i was still in high school, i had a muslim friend. one time, when she was fasting, her classmates felt guilty that they could do their usual lunch-sharing at lunch, and she couldn't join in to eat and gossip with them. her classmates devised a plan to not eat during the whole day and have a feast at sundown so that the whole class could eat with her. it was one of the best moments in high school. i went to their classroom and they were having a party. they were having a karaoke, a bunch of food, and just having a good time.

I hope you all are blessed. Salaam.

That's awesome Khayre. The Prophet Muhammad(peace be upon him) encouraged us to fast regularly outside of Ramadan on Mondays and Thursdays. So you may want to give that a try. Also, look into a book called The Obesity code, that breaks down why we really get overweight and how fasting is really the best cure. Spoiler alert, it has to do with our insulin levels being too high from constantly eating and snacking. Fasting gives your body a rest and time for your insulin levels to drop, hence why your sugar cravings go away. And finally Khayre my brother in humanity, if you found fasting beneficial for your body, please look into Islam which is beneficial for your soul. For this life and the one to come!

@@Luna_Anonymous oh i noticed the same thing too ... and i was abit surprised when he kinda mentioned something like fasting is somewhat a choice ?!?? Idk but yeah i guess he's not well informed about ramadhan generally ... and i don't want to sound really judgemental (?) but the part when he showed how he woke up for suhoor etc and he went back to sleep when the sun rises (?) & i wondered if he actually performed his fajr prayers .... well no offence tho, i have nothing against him or ppl like him, but i feel like it's important to be well informed and know truly about everything being a muslim & the ramadhan, no matter how much we call ourselves as non practicing muslim, and i said this not to insult or offend or degrade because i myself isn't that a great muslim either , but my point is that it's crucial to emphasize for ppl like him to be aware of everything that roots to islam and what's like to be a muslim, it's not just as some kind of label but as a person strongly believes in the beautiful religion

It is called shohor in IHOP lol lol. Most people eat places like these at shohor or at iftar. They understand Allah made chicken and beef halal so it doesn't matter who prepared it. I had a very long discussion with a Palestinian woman in a grocery store while she was buying chicken, I said Salam and asked her if I can say something then I explained to her and her reply was all Arab do it, I said okay not all Arab we buy from halal stores atlest chicken and beef. So moral of the story, before anything eat halal, earn halal.

That’s amazing. I am Albanian and muslim but we do not practice islam like arabian countries so we may be muslim but not everybody fasts or prays. In my family only my mother prays and used to fast so I would watch her and I wanted to fast since I had 10 years old. I just loved being part of something bigger, I loved Iftar parties with my cousins and the feeling that you are part of a big community and it felt that you actually did something good and worth it, its been almost 10 years I fast and I am so proud of being a muslim and fasting. Selam brother and sisters, May Allah accept your fast

We have to fast and pray in order to be closer to God and have a direct alignment with him and also, it makes you stronger. You are the driver of your body you are in control not the other way around. God bless you!! I just stumbled to your videos and love them and will continue to watch and subscribe. Shalom

It's kind of a fallacy to regard Ramadan as a holiday/celebration.
Ramadan is a religious observance - that also happens to be fun, joyful, uniting and exciting etc. But it's purpose is spirituality and worship, so it's not actually a festival.
The actual Islamic celebration is called Eid.

Tbh, Ramadhan is more exciting to me than Eid. Cause I get this kind of calm feeling in the hectic Ramadhan season, trying to juggle it with studies etc.
And if I'm not busy, I spent the time to khatam and doing tarawikh with my friends and my family. (Can hardly stay consistent with these two goals with uni life now)
Eid is more of a chill morning after Eid salah meeting familyembers and diving straight to the Eid delicacies until I can't stomach any.

I am so proud to be part of this true religion. I fasted for the whole month never missed one of my five daily prayers, I cooked for my two neighbours so much also for the children on my road. Both of my neighbours are none Muslims as our command of ALLAH does not say feed your muslim neighbours it says take care of your neighbours no matter what religion.
Throughout the whole Ramadan I read the most beautiful book of ALLAH the holy QURAN,and I still continue to read after ramadan! It's obligatory to do so.
Gave charity as we all are supposed to do for this month. I felt so full of energy! Alhumdolillah we as Muslims are fully programmed so we feel no hunger no thirst! You should never ever over eat once you open your fast! The smallest portion is the best! Watch and see from scientists research how beneficial it is for our body!
So many none Muslims have started to fast! Trust me its real good effect comes with five prayers along with it. Otherwise it's just a hunger strike and feels so difficult! Today Isalam is one of the most fastest growing religion on this earth subhan Allah! We are all one big family! Hope all of you guys who participated in this experience felt very positive! Thanks for your lovely upload!

Fact, the more you eat at night, meat and carbs, the more you're going to feel hungry and thirsty during the next day, especially when it's fried, better to have water lots of it,dates, vegetables in soupe or salade, fruit and little of protein and carbs, and it's way to detox your body during a month, so try eat healthy and organic if it's possible.
    Happy Ramadan to everyone
Edit: I drink small cup of tea or cafe in sahour in order not to have headaches.

Islam strengthens a man to a level he only wished he could have been more serious about in his younger years. It is never too late to start, may Allah extend his mercy and encouragement on those of us who were born Muslim but didnt take our faith seriously until we matured mentally. Allah is aware this is an issue and once we become self aware of this issue... may we hold firm to the rope that is our faith.
