In this video we discuss the pros and cons of living on the beach (chelem, chuburna, Yucalpeten, Progreso, Chicxulub or Telchac) versus the city lifestyle in Merida. We cover everything from Sunsets and the breeze all the way down the crime, theft and trash. This is a must watch video for anyone considering buying a home in The Yucatan in Mexico.

    Hi Tom,
Yes. Very good points. In fact, this is great universal advice for anyone moving to any location. Rent for a while first. Thanks for watching.

Living here in Chuburna Puerto Mexico. Can't speak about Merida except that it is a stunning city with many things to do and see.
Living on the beach here; nightmare. Yes the beach and sunsets are beautiful and that's where it stops. As stated in this video, the maintenance costs alone on your home are exhorbitant. Everything is a challenge from the garbage littered everywhere to the chronic power outages. You can buy a generator and have solar panels installed but you will pay a maximum fee for the installation and maintenance. Although the Mexican people are kind and generous, there is a sense of not belonging here. No matter what your residency status is in Mexico, you are an immigrant and you will be treated as such. I highly suggest if you are interested in living in this area to rent for at least a year before considering a purchase. Mexico is beautiful but it is not for everyone.
