great video, I see that the stone is a SG250, what type of knifes or tools can you sharpen with it; if you sharp knifes, can you tell me the grits on the stone. Thanks
I would suggest heading over to the Tormek CZcams channel. They have an excellent set of videos covering all sorts of things that can be sharpened with a T8 (or T4). Grits on the SG250 range from about 220 up to 1000. It can be graded using a stone supplied with the machine. Very experience users can probably even achieve intermediate grits with careful grading…
I have both and I use both, but there is a huge amount of overlap in the functions that they can do, so I don’t think two are necessary. The composite wheel is quicker and tidier to use. The leather wheel is slightly finer, and of course you could alter the honing compound used if you want to jump down that rabbit hole. Not many could pick the difference between a leather-honed and composite-honed edge IMHO…. Thanks for watching!
I just bought the Tormek-8 thanks for your suggestion ! A great idea. But I was wondering if the Black and Decker table is stable enough to work on… ? Any suggestions if so ?
Thanks for watching - yes, the Workmate is very stable. No movement while sharpening, and if for some reason you ever had to lean on it, it can certainly take the weight.
I mounted my T-8 on a welding cart from (in USA) Harbor Freight, not sure of the vender name in other countries. It costs $200 (the price has gone up). I replaced the wheels with "2 inch low profile trundle casters" from Amazon. The cabinet has drawers, nice for jig storage. I don't have extra wheels, but if I did, they could easily be mounted on the side of this cabinet. The cabinet height is now 28 inches, just right for me at 5' 5".
That sounds like a great solution! I would love to have drawers onboard for easy access, and I like the idea of castors too. What do you do about power supply?
@@greatedgeltd fastened a power strip with a long cord to one side. I just ordered one of those really good lights for wood turning with a magnet base to affix to the cabinet, which will be much better for my senior eyes. Happy to send a picture if you like.

Where did you buy that universal extended bar....tormek website?
From a UK supplier of Tormek parts. Not too hard to find, I don’t think? It is very useful - 90% of my sharpening is with the extended bar.
