This is a follow on from the previous video about short upper lip stretching exercise.
(Short Upper Lip, Dry Mouth and Grinding - Jaw Disorder Exercise and Management to Improve Lip Seal) • Short Upper Lip, Dry M...
In normal lip, upper lip covers 75% of the upper front teeth.
This enables both upper and lower lips to come together and complete seal can be achieved.
When lips seal, inside your mouth can stay in negative pressure.
This is a very important aspect of having your tongue tip on the roof of mouth because the negative pressure help achieve suction. That means the tongue stays up while lips together and teeth apart.
This achieves what we want - nose breathing.
Why do we want nose breathing?
It is because dry mouth (xerostomia) is strongly linked to clenching and grinding.
So this video shows simple lip together strengthening exercises to improve lip seal
- then tongue stays up
- mouth stays moist
- nose breathe and therefore no clenching and grinding
- no TMJ disorder
- improves jaw pain and tightness

I don't think I have a short upper lip but I also have a large protruding maxilla which gives me a gummy smile. I have what is called hyper elevator muscles and I would like to have better lip seal because I feel there is alot of tension in the philtrum due to my protruding maxilla (also have TMJ) Do you think these exercises wioll help get better control over my lip seal even if I don't have short upper lip?. And if I get a strong lip seal will it help gradually through time with protruding maxilla and hyper elevator muscles? I feel the facial and mouth muscle can really mould the face in good or bad ways depending on our habits. Sorry for the long comment. Your videos are golden can't wait to do them daily.
Do these exercises physically lengthen the upper lip/philtrum?
Do you have to bite the paddle pop with your lowers and upper incisors ?
This dude seriously called me a joker
Should you keep the cotton in while you do the first exercise?
you can make this exercise way harder with a spoon and then placing things on the spoon when it geats too easy
Does it works for adults (28 years+) the same level it works for children? (I guess it requires more time and dedication though... just it’s important for me to know if it is really possible)
Good question LK!. It is by no means quick and easy fix. Slow over many months and done gently with no pain.Human tissues adapt over long period rather than days and weeks, more like months to years. May need to combine other dental inputs also. Please consult your local physiotherapist or other musculoskeletal professionals with special interest in TMJ for further assessment and prescription of exercises. Good luck!
@@metrophysiotherapy meanwhile is it be ok to "mew" even though my lips aren't sealed yet? can I do it properly despite that?
@@LK-li4yd no, you need both forces, the ones ur tongue and from your lips, it is the balance between them what straighten your teeth. They say myobrace is a good option.
Sir , if we are not able to keep lips closed tightly for even 10 seconds what can be done to strengthen them ?
@@LEVI-369 it's not about braces .....it's about strengthening those facial muscles around mouth !! It's not a teeth issue !
hey did these exercises work for you and is it better now?
