      @@deecook8393 Even at the beginning of the 80's ! A friend of mine's father owned a Japanese car ( a Mazda, I think) which was not much more than a toy-car in its global design, and when the dear father had to turn right or left, the bottom of the car noisily scratched the road, each time. Yet suddenly, I would say around 1983 or 1984 the "Made in Japan" began to mean something else than "cheap and fun" ! Fabulous !

    I wonder if there's a noticeable texture difference between the Calcium Carbonate and the Gypsum, other than just color? It seems like it would be neat to test! Thanks for sharing! This was awesome

    • @stompyrobutts
      @stompyrobutts Před rokem +11

      Carbonate chalk tends to be more durable, less dusty, but skips, produces skinnierer and less contrasted lines than calcium sulphate chalk, or gypsum chalk. Sulphate chalk, being less durable and dustier, produces excellent broad and well contrasting lines. But you will burn through miles of it on a blackboard.
      The holy grail was the Hagoromo Fulltouch Chalk, which had the properties of sulphate chalk, with an added wax layer to keep the dust down, with a carbonate formulation producing durable and long lasting chalk. But they stopped production in 2015 and has recently been sighted at over $800 a box. A korean company bought up their equipment but apparently its just not the same.
