In and around Pittsburgh, they make "ham barbecue" sandwiches from chipped ham made popular by the Isaly's chain in the mid-20th century. Read more about it here: www.sandwichtr...
How have I not discovered your CZcams channel until now! A thousand apologies for not subscribing sooner. I loved the Sandwiches You Will Like documentary, and I'd love to try the Isaly's chipped ham!
I grew up in West View and went to that location a lot when I was a kid. My sister even worked there as a waitress for a while. I still make ham bbq for lunches and dinner.
I'm from Pittsburgh and ketchup on ham barbeque is straight up Hunky as my mother would say! Tomato sauce, touch of mustard, maple syrup or brown sugar to counter the salty chipped ham with fried onions from the pan. I've had it with Manwich, cheese wiz, and once with jalapenos in a crock pot at a strip bar Christmas party but that's not it.
I still buy Isaly's chip chopped ham shaved super thin. I had one yesterday.
I saw it and loved that program

My great and and uncle lived upstairs on that shop for years and years on Perry Hwy.
Big thumbs up from Pittsburgh on this one. :) Makes me want to run out and get some chipped ham, and maybe I'll do that later.
