  • Ace Avoider is a simple action game that appeared as a type-in listing in Personal computer World, July 1984. It runs on the unexpanded Jupiter Ace and was written by John Sinyard.
The game requires you to collect all the Jewelites ( * symbols) while avoiding the Mutant Asteroids ( X symbols). The screen background scrolls in four directions continuously, while you are free to move anywhere on screen. It can be quite challenging to collect Jewelites while avoiding Asteroids. Collect all the Jewelites on screen to get to the next Wave which is busier than the one before. You start with five lives and if you lose one, you also finish that wave.
In later years there was a game for the popular 8-bit micros called Splat! which has a similar concept of a background scrolling without your control and you have to try and achieve your objectives without having any collisions. Splat! is much more advanced in concept and gameplay than Ace Avoider though!
This run was made using the Pantheon emulator on PC. The date of play was the 16th July 2024. There are no skill levels and the score reached was 33 points.
