    On the actual UH-60, the trigger is the collective trim, so that you can pull the trigger to adjust collective, then release it so that the collective stays in the same position instead of just falling to the floor.

  • @colindelaney4208
    @colindelaney4208 Před 2 lety +27

    Triggers on helicopter collectives are for the force trim release. Similar to the cyclic FTR. Squeeze the trigger, move the collective and it stays there. If you move the collective without the trigger pressed, when you let go of the collective it bounces or rebounds back to it's last position in which the trigger was pressed

      @@joeiacovino9660 Well that's why. The force trim trigger is on the Mike model 60.
      If you feel the collective on a A/L model, there will be a notch where the trigger would be for the other Aircraft models that have them. A/L Army models have collective friction instead of a force trim. I believe the Airforce and Navy may have force trim, but don't quote me on that, I've only ever flown on Army 60s. But everyone else had full coupled Autopilot before big Army did, so it would make sense.
      Sauce, I've been crewing for a little over 10 years. Been on As, L,s and Ms. Both Medevac and Assault. Even flew on an EH-60 once, before it went to foreign sales. The only thing I haven't flown on is an MH cus I'm a dirty Nasty Girl.

    So cool to see helis being simulated in controls...Top tip (at least for turbine birds with FADEC) if you ONLY have a HOTAS with multiple throttle inputs (like the warhog) you can set the small lever for engine power; reverse the axis on the main lever and use as the collective. Very immersive and since FADEC works in conjuction with collective to control engine power as you utilise the collective youre all set for flying.

    This reminds me that I have an RC radio that can connect to a PC via USB and appear as a couple of joysticks and a bunch of buttons and encoders. The thing is designed so that you can control RC anything but fixed wing and helicopter in particular. To make life easier and reduce thundering in with your model they have the concept of mixing where input from one or more channels can partially affect another. For helicopter this means you can mix throttle input with the tail channel to offset the loss/gain of torque caused when changing your throttle. I don't know if real choppers have this but they should.
    Some of what I read in the Virpil manuals reminds me of the joys of RC Radio configuration.

    Hard pass on this one. Too close to work.
    The trigger on the 60M model's collective is for the collective trim. When releasing the trigger the collective stays put at the power setting we desire. The thumb hat below the head is for fine tuning of that power setting, adjusting vertical speeds on the flight director, establishing standard-rate turns in flight when coupled to the flight director (awesome when flying instruments), and when in coupled hover mode we can push it left/right to do pedal turns (It will hold a heading for us) or change our hover height on the flight director (autopilot - but it kinda sucks. Experienced pilots will hover better than the system). The older models used a collective friction twist to somewhat lock the collective in place of the collective trim.
    Well done to Virpil, and top notch content Noobifier.

      You can still do heli-like controls by using decoupled mode, but I dont know why you would do that. It is nothing like flying a heli as you are just controling the rate of rotation and vertical force where as with a helicopter you are contorling the pitch of the blades which does a bunch of weird stuff. Just fly decoupled mode with dual stick, it is much more enjoyable than flying decoupled with heli-like controls as you can do so much more.

      @@epicgamer42069 in the flight model prior to this one, ships hovering in gravity were very much like a rotor wing with the rotor on the bottom. Slippy and almost impossible to balance. Too difficult for the average user, but in my opinion, far more immersive.

    • @epicgamer42069
      @epicgamer42069 Před 2 lety +1

      @@PopeRocket SC never had a flight model allot like rotor wing, sure it may have taken some skill to keep it balanced, but it was much more like manually balancing a falcon-9 booster during landing but simpler and not a helicopter. And I wouldn't really say it was too difficult for the average user, only too difficult for a beginner. Its still like that but with stablization systems added. But even with the old flight model I dont see why you would want to use heli controls instead of just using dual stick as you still get the same 4 control axis but with two more which allows you to do allot more. Realistic helicopter flight models are far more complex than anything you would reasonably do for space ships like the ones in SC. For space ships you just take the force from each thruster, drag if applicable, and gravity, then add it all up and apply it to the ship. In the specific case with SC there is a flight control system which takes your inputs and figures out what you want the ship to do (rotate or move in a certain way,. or in the case of decoupled mode, direction and ammount of thrust, and rotation) and then rotates the thrusters and controls the throttle of each thruster. With helicopters you have a ton of waky stuff that I wont even get into.

    Hello, I have a the Virpil VPS. I'm having issues with my collective in my DCS World on the Blackhawk 64D helicopter. When I pull up on my collective, the helicopter goes down. Then when I push down on my collective, it goes down. It seems as if it's backward, how do I fix that issue?
