I'm glad, as an American, I had the priviledge of seeing a few of his films (and then a lot more as the years went on and I had access to more foreign film.) 佛號功德利益確實不可思議，可以說世出世間第一法，沒有任何一法能超過。換句話說，你在這個世間，修積無量無邊功德善福，都比不上至心恭敬念一句阿彌陀佛，比不上，這個話是真的，不是假的。但是這些話，在三十年前給我講我不相信，我學佛六十二年了，前一半我不敢肯定。現在你問我，我給你點頭，我給你證明，一點都不錯。那麼你要是有懷疑，破除懷疑的方法，你把這個經念三千遍，你就明白了，你就恍然大悟了，好。為什麼？不但你開悟，你入境界了。這叫一向稱念阿彌陀佛，一向專念。
十八願到二十七，四十四到四十八，願願皆因聞佛名號，永離諸惡苦，終得究竟樂。得究竟樂是往生到極樂世界，沒有往生到極樂世界，不能叫究竟樂，離苦得樂不究竟，到極樂世界就究竟了。我們這一生把大好光陰都錯過，晚年才知道，後悔莫及。年輕時候如果是知道，那時候也知道，懷疑，不相信，要真正不懷疑，真相信，真幹，我們早已成佛了，十年、二十年肯定成就。所以現在四十歲的人還不遲，幹上十年，五十歲，再幹十年，六十歲，成佛了，你的問題真解決了。

一句佛名，是万种功德的结晶，具有不可思议的大威神力。它是生死苦海中的慈航，是漫漫长夜里的明灯。尤其是末法时期的众生，人根陋劣，退缘很多。正如《大宝积经》所说：“末法亿亿人修行，罕一得道（证道果），唯依念佛，得度生死。”当代高僧道源法师也说：“末法时代的众生，非念佛无以了生死，非念佛无以度有情。”（道源法师：《弥陀经讲录》）说明念佛法门是未法众生的对症良药。
有人以为，念佛法门是老年人修的，是消积送死的，是临终用的。这些都是片面的、错误的理解。本来我们自心就是佛，念佛是念心，就是“是心作佛”。“投佛号于乱心，乱心不得不佛（佛心）。”夏莲居居士说得好：“弥陀弥陀直念去，原来弥陀念弥陀。”可见，一句佛号，就能了脱生死，出离轮回，往生净土，圆证菩提，实在是捷径中的捷径。还有一点必须明确，念佛不只是临终得大利益，生前就得大利益。印光大师说，一切事都可以念佛求成就，除了做坏事以外。本文所列举的念佛现世获得的十种殊胜功德，概括得比较全面。这些都是佛陀亲口开示，从佛经中摘录出来的。佛无妄语，千万不要怀疑！为便于初机阅读，谨作肤浅解释。如有不当，敬祈指正。
“念佛现世获十种殊胜功德”
一、常得一切天神隐形守护。
二、常得一切菩萨常随守护。
三、常得诸佛昼夜护念，阿弥陀佛常放光明，摄受此人。
四、念佛之人，光明烛（照）身，四十里之遥（远），一切恶鬼，皆不能害；一切蛇龙毒药，悉皆不受。
五、水火冤贼，刀箭牢狱，横死枉生，悉皆不受。
六、先所作业，悉皆消灭。所杀冤命，彼蒙解脱，更无执对。
七、夜梦正直，或梦见阿弥陀佛胜妙色像。
八、心常欢喜，颜色光泽，气力充盛，所作吉利。
九、常为一切世间人民恭敬、喜欢、礼拜。
十、临命终时，心无怖畏，正念现前，得见阿弥陀佛与诸圣众，持金莲花，接引往生西方极乐世界。
