How do you unlock a fire escape stair case that won’t come down as you put weight on it or try to hook it 🪝 ?

And make sure some pedestrian isn’t walking by on the other side when you drop it down lol. Don’t neglect the public use cones or tape

Lack of maintenance could well render these "escapes" death-traps in an emergency. Only twelve to fifteen people (or fewer if fat) weigh one ton; would such neglected structures support the weight of a car? Rust, corrosion, bird nests, bird shit take their toll if not kept clear and clean.
