Oh how I've missed Cat Goes Fishing. It's go everything one can ask for in a game and more. It's a shame we didn't catch the fish this time, hopefully a helpful commenter will give me the clue I need.

Here’s the trick to catch the Magnalav:
You were doing everything right, except first you need to unequip your rod’s sinker upgrade. This means once you cast way out and the bait reaches right below you against the land, it will stop moving. Then just patiently wait for him to bite. Good luck 👍

Another method is the magnalav is scared of movement but if you move slow enough it will follow your boat to shore sell your boat and cast down the magnalav will stay there while u try and catch it

I’d watch a stream of DF fishing IRL in Vancouver Bay.
The Magnalav will slowly come towards your bait as long as you do not flick, move, or reel in. Note: If the player has a tech boat they can just fish the Magnalav out of its resting spot beyond the silo.
