Wow sir. Your video was really helpful. It has everything from start to end. And what a lovely place! Birds singing, greenery, a nice sense of serenity... Thanks for making this video :)
Well I went to my city park where they have a canal and got me for free one papyrus plant and one hyacinths lily along with a few water snails and a few water lettuce for my starting pond, I just throwed everything in the mini pond and the papyrus is doing beautiful and I'm gonna propagate it. Thanks for the info.
Bonne continuation. Salutations de France
In Spain we call this plant literally: "little umbrella". In order to propagate it, I put the upper part of the plant in a bucket of water with expanded clay. After few weeks, new plants are deeply rooted in the clay. Eventually you can plant them in a pond or even use this setup as a biological filter. BTW great video as always, thanks for sharing!
It's definitely a very easy plant to work with and as you describe a very good plant to filter water with, in the tubs where I keep it the water is always crystal clear. Glad you like the video and thanks for watching - commenting :)
This plant is Cyperus Alternifolius. Cyperus Papyrus, the reed of the Nile and source of the first paper is much bigger, triangular-stemmed and extremely tender. However, this little plant is wonderful and I've had it overwinter in my pond in England for a few years now. Thank you for this lovely peaceful video.
Papyrus can easily be shared with others. Depending on how big my papyrus is, I either cut a corner or half off and put the two parts in new pots with potting soil at the bottom and the rest ordinary sand. That’s how I got my first papyrus from my grandmother as a child. The only caveats are too much calcium in the tap water (I boil all the water for my plants) and pests, especially mites that form webs in the crown. The still water can attract insects like mosquitoes but that doesn’t bother the plant.
What temperature can I do this? I have ~50-75 degree F here in northern California right now. Can I do this outside or do I have to do it inside or wait till it gets warmer? I bought one off eBay last year and it grows extremely well in my pond so I would like to propagate this.
Thank you! I'm from Denmark and the weather here is quite nice right now, but from mid October to start of May it is not very nice, with a lot of rain and snow.
Dendrochirus zebra En stor 👍🏼 fra en anden dansker med hang til papyrus. Har har pt tre slags og prøver at dyrke King Tut fra frø, da jeg ikke kan finde planterne her.
orchid smile I have been growing papyrus since I was a child and mostly in pure sand which keeps them manageable for a window but now I put ordinary potting soil at the bottom to get them bigger.
fofo fofo Papyrus love baking sun and heat so go ahead. Just make sure they’re always at least wet, but ideally in water like you see in this video. I grow mine in ordinary sand with a bit of soil at the bottom.

We have all papyrus designs available

I found this described on the interwebs, this is just the way I do it :)

Your welcome :)
is this plant safe to eat for cats?
can you use moroccon red clay powder? as the second component to the dirt
I think it will be even better than the lily clay I use.

Ela gosta de sol?
I have it...it likes wet soil i guess
It do, but it can also be kept relatively dry as well.
