The thing about using "among us" in a sentence is that it sounds cool but for the rest of my years I will immediately think of the funny astronaut game
won't we all?
And every time I hear tabby I think about a tyrant hypocrite obsessed with clocks and a dead child (Tabby, not me)

4:15 the blob fish doesn't look like that. Due to living at that depth, whenever it gets caught and dragged to the surface by fishermen their body gets distorted into a blob of ugly flesh because of the pressure change
If you look up blobfish you can actually find images of them in their natural depth and they look way less ugly
So giving it the ugliest animal alive is like if they threw a naked person into outer space and pulled it back just to say "wow this animal is ugly as hell haha"
came here to post this, you couldn't have said it any better.
Also like submerging a naked human to the blob fish's natural depth, then hauling them back up. That's not going to be a pretty picture, either.
You got this from Exurb1a 's video "Buddhism is kind of out there, man" at 7:37.
I was going to make a very similar comment. Thanks for saving me the trouble. Nicely said. The poor blobfish is actually a fairly handsome little fish.
@@SMBorthwick True, but may I point out that this fish looks like This at it's Normal Depth!!
I've had the Privilege of filming them in their natural ocean depth...
As part of the team, I filmed using a remote control Sub, we were doing a survey on the plastics at the deepest places we had the equipment to go....
Apparently the Marianas trench contains plastic pollution already as well....
the word "among us" will never be the same

Phrase
real sussy bruh
Another way one might get a grip on just how far down the Marianas trench reaches: mid- thirty thousands of feet describes both the ocean trench depth, AND a very common cruise altitude of an airliner in flight. Think of looking out of your window on a typical flight, but on a sunny, crystal-clear day (or night FTM) when highways are barely discernible, only large vehicles of a high-contrast color, and moving can be seen, only larger bodies of water, and cities are just different, more “busy” In texture, and appearing to be cut up into squares and rectangles, etc. If you were on a boat directly above the Challenger Deep, looking over the side, and all water beneath you suddenly vanished, then the ocean floor, about 35,000 below your little boat, would look the same as your airliner view if there were familiar things to see, but one can imagine a white-hulled yacht the size of an 18 wheeler that just sank would be barely discernible, against a dark background, and you happened to know exactly where to look. Otherwise, an object would have to be the size of a 747 to even be noticed by a casual observer. That’s a long way down. In fact, an object were dropped from that height, or a little boat suddenly had all the water under the keel suddenly vanish, assuming a terminal velocity of about 120 mph, rounded off to 180 feet per second, then it would take about 3 1/2 minutes for it to reach the bottom. Imagine free-falling at that speed for 3 1/2 minutes…
If you laid 35,000 feet out on a desert highway, it would go for about 6 1/2 miles. An average human adult walks about 3 miles per hour, so it would take them a good 2 hours and almost 15 minutes to walk that distance. It’s a long way down.
At some point the future generations are just gonna associate the word “among us” as an ironic phrase and the most horrifying yet hilarious part is that they won’t even remember what started the irony in the first place!

Just in case anyone thinks the blob fish is actually ugly
Take a moment to consider that those weird pictures of it are taken when it has been taken out of the extreme pressures it has evolved to live in
Imagine if some alien placed us in a vacuum and thought "Hmmm, these are some odd bulbous creatures, I wonder what that red stuff coming out of their eyes is."
The Blofish just looks goofy , not ugly. There are plenty of other uglier creatures on Earth. Most of them are on Tic Tok.

I really had thought you would bring up the Saint Augustine monster as it was commonly agreed upon that it was some sort of massive squid/octopuss thing. It washed up dead but it is still fascinating that it was so big.
I think creatures living in the deep can become massive because they have no sense of limitations by way of seeing no physical boundaries to their enviornment. They might trust that the food will exist for them as they grow.
Actually modern biologists agree it was more than likely a mass of whale blubber, also known as a "globster" which are responsible for most terrifying, unidentifiable monsters that wash up on beaches!
@@Wermfare It was fleshly with elasticity and there was one witness to suction cups, and some long apendages observed..
One of the things he forgot to mention was how greater oxygen concentrations alllow for larger animals. We currently have 21% oxygen in our atmosphere, but all the great dinosaurs lived at a time when it was more like 35%.
Oxygen's solubility in water is dependent on pressure. In deep water oxygen will be far more soluble, not just in the water but also in the tissues of any animal dwelling there. So this could lead to gigantism by the same process that dinosaurs grew so large.

@@AndreaDingbatt We are all with you, fellow user!
Thoughty2 loves the job he does.
When you consider that many sailors and fishermen would have been somewhat delirious from being out at sea so long, being malnourished because their food supplies ran out + the sheer panic of seeing an absolute unit of a squid that can fuck you and your boat up, its not hard to imagine how they turn a 13m squid into a 40m one.

11:06 - Correction: Sinking is not a function of weight, but of density. Cooler substances tend to be more dense than warmer, and so tend to sink. Temperature does not affect a substance's weight. (Edit: Correction to the correction -- True, weight is a function of more than mass, and has much to do with its environs. That being the case, temperature can technically affect weight, but an effect that is highly conditional.)
nerd? but thanks for the info fr
Temperature does not affect a substance's mass. Temperature does however affect a substance's weight - Liquid hydrogen at sea level has weight, but warm it up until it becomes a gas, and it has negative weight due to buoyancy..
Simple version: Weight is determined by mass density and volume, temperature alters volume
Ima hit u with the ‘um akshually” and point out that energy intrinsically has mass so technically temperature does increase weight/mass though in this instance it is negligible. Another interesting fact is pressure lowers specific heat capacity so as water rises from the deep sea it’s ability to cool the surrounding warmer water also increases.
Also water becomes lighter if brought down below 4°
Here before he changes the title, as he always does.
The title now is: "This creature lives among us"
Oh no ... How dare he use those words... The humanity... Someone think of the children.
That's what the reactions to the title sound like.
Another way to think about the depth of the trench is to remember it's almost as deep as the sky is high. Just imagine looking up and normally where you see the sky you see the surface of the water.

There might just be buildings at the bottom of the Ocean, because it wasn't always the bottom of the Ocean.
The Ocean is one of the few places we haven't done proper Archeology work in, but they have found structures underwater so who knows what else could be under the Ocean floor.
Under the Ocean Floor is the Underlay!!
The bottom of the ocean has always been the bottom of the ocean since being made at mid-ocean ridges. You're thinking of pieces of continental crust that occasionally get inundated or lifted. But none of that compares to the depth of the ocean floor.

AMONG US?!?!?! SUS!!! IMPOSTOR!!!!!!!!
THIS CREATURE LIVES WHERE⁉⁉⁉
and Thanks for producing another great video!
Yay youre back to my recommended again
I wonder if creatures ended up getting scarier looking because it's so dark down there that they never had to evolve "good looks" and they just leaned fully into the creepy crawlers that live in the Dark vibe.*Also with the deep sea gigantism, I think a big part of it is that cold water holds more oxygen rich waters and cold water entices larger animals as well. Then take Antarctic oceans. They have the most cold, nutrient rich, high oxygen level parts of the oceans. *The ocean greatly depends on upwelling to keep the ocean healthy because it brings up oxygen rich cold water to mix with top level warmer water. It's what keeps large krill populations healthy and abundant.
