This is cinema at its purest form. No green screens, no special effects, no CGI and sill the film is simply epic in every sense of the word. A true work of art from the acting to storyline to the cinematography. The first movie I fell in love with and will always be one of my favorites.

I owned the sound track on a cassette tape. John Barry. It is, still, one of the best 'western' soundtracks ever made. It makes me think of my journeys out West. And it makes me want to go again. It thinks about the great wide open spaces.

I was 10 years old in 1990. I'm black. From New Orleans. In the hood I grew up. But because for some reason my beautiful, catholic, herself very young at the time, very intelligent mom tried her best to culture us. We were poor but went to the Sanger theater, and watched movies like this. And for that little bit of time I felt like I was in South Dakota myself

A magical moment. I'll never see another movie as good as this. It tells of a story that must of happened more than once of these times. There must of been many John Dunbar's. Unfortunately these stories have been suppressed by white governments as they show how tragically they nearly wiped the Native Indians out. Hopefully one day the tide will turn. Modern day humans could not return to the 'primative ways' of Indigenous people's. They have lost the ability to at one with nature. They just want to dominate it for the purpose of profit and bragging rights. How sad is that. Mother Nature WILL reign supreme. Only those willing to work with her, will survive. Thanks to Kevin Costner in bringing this film to life. ❤️

You know what I don't understand? I don't understand how this movie isn't in the IMDB top 10 movies of all time. What I really don't understand is how this movie isn't even in the top 50. What blows my mind even further is how this movie doesn't have a place in the top 100 movies of all time. What my mind simply cannot comprehend is how this movie, this cinematic masterpiece is not considered in the top 250 movies of all time on IMDB. I honestly do not get that. How? (P.s. I understand how it may not have a spot in the top 10, competition is tough there) Also nicely done!

There is a sequel called The Holy Road. I wish it was made into a movie. The ending is tragic, but the book needed to be written. Blake began writing a screenplay in 2007 and a third book titled The Great Mystery was planned. Unfortunately, he died a few years ago. Viggo Mortensen will probably play Dances with Wolves in the sequel if it ever comes out.
