In Chemistry an ion is an atom or molecule carrying electrical change. A Lithium ion (Li-ion) battery is a battery which uses electrically charged Lithium. There are 12+ such battery chemistries under this umbrella including Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) The full datasheet for the Powerwall 3 isn't out yet, but all current indications point to the use of the LiFePO4 chemistry. If you want to be really sure you get LiFePO4, wait for the data sheet release. Also LiFePO4 is a fairly old chemistry. But it is cheap and has a good cycle life & safety profile at the expense of weight, so it is good for applications like this.
Unbelievable, latest technology battery using dangerous Li-ON technology, in stead of latest and safe technology LiFePO4.
