When he's not touring with the Damned, punk music legend Captain Sensible is a bit of a trainspotter. Here, he heads down to the coast on the historic Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch steam railway
I can't believe I'm just seeing this now in mid-October 2022, 10 years after it was uploaded. I've known of the Captain since my teen years in the mid/late '80s, but as a bit of a railfan myself here in the US, this presentation just further elevated the amount of respect for him. Like others have stated previously, I agree that he would make for a great presenter on this, or perhaps even other subjects on a regular basis - if he hasn't already done so and I'm simply not aware of it yet.
It's always funny listening to the Captain, actually he reminds me of Palin and his journeys, and if the Captain joined Python for a day he'd perfectly take care of himself amongst giants of British humour and comedy - i never saw this man running short of words and punchlines. . Heard the Captain's music in early 77, at almost 14, and his band always struck me as the real mccoy, so i stand in attention before the Captain. Salute!
@jamesgreenfield !!!! I was just going to post a comment a long the lines of "Is he a long lost relative of Paul O'Grady?" and then I scrolled down and saw your comment. He reminds me of P'O G, when he struggles to get out of the train at 2.41.
I used to travel the London overheads every day. I commuted between my squat in Stamford Hill all the way to Rotherhide and i never had to buy a ticket. The lads at the station didnt give a fuck, just gave a thumbs up to us punks ... Youd have to get a train that stopped in Bethnal Green coz youd be fucked if it bypassed Betsy and went to Liverpool street . Bonking the underground was no problem either. even the conductors were cool and let us ride for free ... Halcion days in London .
jesus...I wish I hadn't watched this...like your dad trying to be witty and subversive whilst still sucking it up to earn the money..not I deny the captain that..just doubly weird!
OK folks, you are trying to make the reporter look cool, well wearing a leather jacket like that, cheap ' wanna be' forget it!!! At least supply him with the correct gear!
I'd like to see a series of the Captain going around the railways. He's a good presenter.
The Captain just oozes that cool Dad-punk sort of vibe
What a lovely bloke Ray is ... a good soul for rock n roll.
He's quite a good presenter he should do more television.
Great presentation and genuine enthusiasm.
That's awesome! Big fan of The Captain, and he's a train buff! So cool!
Brilliant!.... Dear Auntie Beeb...please give this man Portillo's job...he'd bring a whole new enthusiasm to the railway journeys TV series...
yes, he could have Portillo's job on This Week as well.
Totally agree with you!
I enjoyed a few pints with The Cap back in the late 70s early 80s in The Sailor S.Norwood and The Lion Pawsons rd. Top bloke.
Actually a good show all the way around...way to go Captain!
Wot a star. we need a few more captains in the world. sit back and relax
Andrew Cooper "wot" hahahaha
3 Oi's for the Captain !
Great stuff. Good work Captain.
as a punk rock listening railroading s o b its great to see the cap out buffing!
Have we ever seen the Captain and Paul O'Grady in the same room? I think not!
A lot easier than supporting motorhead, which is what I've been doing lately :)

Better than Portillo's cack handed efforts. Give the Captain a TV series.
i SAID CAPTAIN, HE SAYS WHAT ?
Sensible is a DIE HARD vegetarian. I'm pretty sure it is imitation leather.
Took my kids on this train today whilst wearing a Captain Sensible t shirt! Had no idea he’d rode these rails before me
Cheers Cap, i enjoyed that and the history.
Captain, I love you!!! Xoxoxo
@Stereovaccine Yeah, he's got the personality. Wouldn't be surprised if he'd his own train set too.
Love it.
4:20. So true.

Youth Hostelling with Chris Eubank.

We used to update our travel cards with black eyeliner!
London in the 80's was like The Wild West, you could have a great time with hardly any money.
Get rid of that wanker Portillo and give Sensible the gig !!
frflinstone (I can't stop laughing at your brilliant & true comment) nice one
Cheers David
Michael Portillo has let himself go
Fukitt, Burns was right about that Beeching arsehole. If I'd a space in this matchbox for a Hornby, I'd certainly...
