Why no one plays TIKI-TAKA now?

  • Tiki-taka has its roots in the passing football of Johan Cruyff's Barcelona and Ajax teams of the 1980s and 1990s. Cruyff, a true pioneer of Total Football, introduced a dynamic philosophy where players seamlessly shifted positions and moved with grace on the pitch. In the early 1990s, he planted the seeds of Tiki taka at Barcelona, laying the foundation for a lasting footballing legacy. As Cruyff passed on the torch of leadership, Dutch managers Louis van Gaal and Frank Rijkaard embraced the appreciation for possession and space during their stints at the Catalan club. However, the zenith of Tiki-taka brilliance arrived with Barcelona's renowned La Masia academy, which nurtured footballing legends like Lionel Messi, Xavi, and Andres Iniesta. These exceptional talents embodied the very essence of Tiki-taka, a philosophy refined through La Masia's teachings, and later showcased their magical skills under the tactical genius of Pep Guardiola. However, unfortunately, not a lot of managers follow Tiki Taka these days. Why is it? Let's find out.

Tiki taka is dead because the players that can make it happen are no longer available. Tiki taka needs Press-resistant players.

Don't let yourself be misled, the answer is explained in one sentence: most people have no idea or idea how to teach this to a team, believe me, I know what I'm talking about

It failed because opposing team caught on to simple ways to neutralize.
Step 1 - When tiki taka team gains possession, get all your players behind the ball.
Step 2 - Stop trying to regain possession. Just defend the zone. This is crucial as tiki taka thrives on your opponents running around like headless chickens try regain possession, thereby opening up their defenses to be exploited. Instead watch them string together 50 passes while being farther from scoring than when they began. Then they get tired and launch an ill advised speculative attack.
Step 3- Get the ball. Quick counter. 3 passes and shot at goal.
That's how tiki taka was defeated.

And it often leads to pathetic boring matches ..tikki taka also became a victim of its success ..ppl forget how the barca implemented tiki taka with speed ..once players started getting older..retiring..barca started taking the tactic for granted ..it was easy for opposite teams to stop them ..bring me prime 2010 xavi..inesta ..busquets ..messi teams will still get humiliated

Tiki-Taka or whatever system you have is not why teams win world cups or league titles, it's the players.... Barcelona few years back and Manchester City today are winning because they have the best players in the world on their side. It's the flavor of the Month to now talk about Pep this, and Tiki-Taka that being flawless and the reason for all glory... It's players folks, here in the US we say "It's not about the X's and the O's it's about the Jimmy's and the Joe's" PERIOD!
