Easy Southern Caramel Cake Recipe Made From Scratch

- Caramel Icing:
12 TBSP unsalted butter
3 C. Lactaid whole milk
2 C. Granulated sugar
2 capfuls Vanilla
1/2 tsp salt
Extra 3/4 c Lactaid whole milk (add to make the caramel creamy) You can add more If you want.
Cake:
2 soft unsalted sticks of butter / 16 Tbsp
2 C. Granulated Sugar
4 large eggs
1c buttermilk
1/3 C. sour cream
2 capfuls vanilla
3 C. Self rising flour (make sure cups are leveled)

-Make sure to beat butter & sugar until light & fluffy. This step Is essential for a moist cake
- Use quality butters.
- Use Full fat sour cream & buttermilk
- baby Sit the caramel while cooking It. Do not take your eyes off It for more than 2 minutes. Whisk whisk whisk!!
- once placed In a safe dish, sit caramel on top of a hot stove to keep warm
🛑 Reasons why you have a dry cake 🛑
1. Butter & sugar has not been beaten enough. LIGHT & FLUFFY LIGHT & FLUFFY
2. Oven too hot. Try baking on 325f for 25- 30 min All ovens are different.
3. Baking cakes too long
4. Eggs are too small
5. Use room temperature Ingredients. Colder Ingredients take longer to cook.

I’ve made this recipe multiple times for the caramel alone and BABY this is to date the best cake I’ve ever had in my life. I made it for thanksgiving last year and everyone was looking for more and was trading stuff for other family members slices 😂😂😂😂 they keep asking me when I’m going to make it again. My family is very particular about our food down to taste texture after taste all of that and this recipe did not disappoint. I make the caramel separately sometimes just to have caramel and apples and it’s my all time favorite snacks. Once I make this cake it don’t last more than 48 hours in our house and that’s pushing it. I searched recipes on Google, TikTok, and other CZcams videos but this one was the most straightforward and tasted the best. Will never switch up on this here cake recipe. If y’all have any doubts about this recipe girl don’t. It’s good. Hella good. Heavenly good. This recipe will have you feeling yourself big time after you make it. I feel like I can take on any professional baker after this. Lmaooo I’m being silly but so serious 😂💀 Go make this right now!!

Listen, honey! I am a new baking addict and I have never made this cake before. The meals on wheels lady was raving about caramel cake that she buys when she goes to Mississippi. She said her grandmother used to make it and the one in Mississippi was the closest thing she ever had to it. A few days later, a guy on facebook sent me a photo of a caramel cake and said his grandmother used to make it and he has paid people to make it for him but they never do it from scratch. They charge him scratch prices but don't deliver. I picked this cake because it looks moist and that's how I like my cakes. Moist! The caramel tastes delish! I am not going to get any of this cake but I am going to make one, cut it up and sell it by the slice just so I can taste it....when I feel like babysitting that caramel for an hour and a half again. I never did get it the color in the video but it is probably a camera thing. Cameras often don't show the true color. Thank you so much for sharing! I love to learn from others. My granny taught me to bake a 7 up pound cake...though she mostly used milk instead of 7up. I am a pound cake girl but I want me some of this caramel cake!

Jasmine, I baked this cake for Mother’s Day and it was DELICIOUS!!! The only difference between this cake and my Mother’s is that her caramel’s more solid/less creamy. (Not a complaint, that’s just how I grew up thinking how a true and delicious caramel cake should be.) Still, the taste of both the cake and caramel are the same as Mom’s! Years ago when I first got married, I wanted to make a caramel cake for my husband's birthday because it was his favorite. I wasn't much of a baker, so it was a fail!
