My NVQ is in engineering - never did the AM2, haven't got a gold card, haven't got a JIB card and I'm not eligible for such either. They're not something I aspire to. I've met too many people who flash the plastic and yet are out of their depth on their general knowledge, installation work or fault finding. If NICEIC want to tell me I'm not the right stuff to be a QS anymore based on what boxes I tick, that'll get interesting. As you say though, those who have been assessed as being fit-for-purpose in previous years will remain so.

You are a prime example of the point I was trying to make.

You have the exact same view that I do and I'm eligible for the Gold and Black cards. Never needed it for sites or wanted to bother with it especially after having to do a CSCS card for the council at one point that was basically a joke. I've also met people with the card that haven't as been as knowledgeable as you'd expect them to be unlike a couple of decades ago when most people I met with them were the QS level or higher in a company and knew their stuff these days I find that's not the case. That said I am mainly in a design and fault finding role where many of my peers that I went to college with that have cards aren't involved in anything but the domestic house installation scene and as Sam stated on Monday Club previously, if you're not doing it all the time your knowledge has gaps.

Proud to be in the NIC, I remember those days, and I joined when there was none of this part p nonsense, when being a member set you apart from the rest of the bodger's, now most of the bodger's are also members, that tells you everything about the NIC and the industry.

NVQ level 3 is utter nonsense. I had my 2360 1 & 2, 17th (at the time) 2391 AM2 but no NVQ so wasn't eligible for my approved gold card so had to do it after 20 years experience. Told the assessor once he ran through it initially that I wasn't going to learn a single thing & I didn't. Total, total bollocks, money making scam. So many hoops to jump through to become an electrician & I didn't mind any except that crappy, expensive waste of time NVQ.

Great Page mate. It's George from Technical Helpline Team! It is from the 1st of September that the entry requirements changed! Keep doing what you are doing Will. I think you have great videos and great to have you as a member of the NICEIC. Approved Document Part S has been recently released regarding EV installations now becoming mandatory in certain installations. Might be worth creating a video on this too.

I think the whole trade is misled in some avenues. Focus should be on quality of teaching. I'm time serving and done a full apprenticeship and still work for the same company. I had a strong teaching by two good sparks with 70 plus years knowledge in commercial and industrial environments. Nobody has ever asked to see my qualifications but ask me to come and look at a job, do a job etc as that's my visual qualifications.. I'm finding lots of "yes I can do that" chat in the trade but they can't or have a go badly because of lack knowledge/training etc. I like the video and prefer to watch a spark who's honest about the whole thing. Another thing to consider is some sparks depending what era and place of work may not have all the tickets but could out spark most on the tools? Good video!

The problem with the NIC is they don't give a crap, their complaint process is crap, the only time they want to prosecute is when they find someone using their logo fraudulently.
They are a corporate monster interested in profits, watch the videos of the woman in charge being questioned by MPs, they tie her in knots.

Oi oi midfield general great video matey. I have just moved after 15 years of being NICEIC domestic installer to NICEIC approved on Wednesday as I had always not bothered even though my Assesor had always told me I should. But sadly he passed away recently so I decided to do it for him as he was a big part of me pushing my business and for me to believe in myself

Regarding the lack of following of the NICEIC on social media I think is partly IMO down to length of videos. Generally I don’t have time to sit down and watch a hour plus video so wouldn’t bother. 10 - 15 minutes is the perfect length. So shorter videos on subjects, straight to the point and informative would get a better following.

I completely agree but also on the other hand what you do find is a lot of people do not understand the Eicr stickers.Just because you put one of those on a consumer unit or distribution board it doesn’t mean with its satisfactory or unsatisfactory. You see so many people on Instagram commenting about that. I understand where you’re coming from and you probably didn’t mean that
