I have never been so upset about finding a youtuber... then I found you... every last one of your tutorials cover what I want to learn especially with me and a few friends working on an extremely amateur star wars project this tutorial will be a huge help! There is one request I have of you... where did you find these magnificent planet textures.
Not bad. But one thing to consider when making space scenes (Some tips apply to your tutorial, others are just general tips). The epic lighting isn't really much of a realistic feature in space (I'm sure you know that though due to us having 1 sun). And also your camera movements shouldn't be so dramatic and quick to traverse around planets. Dramatic changes in camera location could ruin the illusion that the planet is... well... a planet and not a marble. and one last note: TECHNICALLY (yes I'm sorry lol) if you expose a camera for a brightly lit planet, stars shouldn't be visible (depending on if you're going for that Star Wars/ Star Trek look or Interstellar/ Gravity look). Either way, thank you for giving us another great tutorial! Always pleased to see what content you bring next!
Intro didn't make my eyes or ears bleed - 11/10 Planets looked awesome in the intro - 11/10 Mr. Obvious treatment of the environmental color settings drawing direction from the target atmosphere (space) - 11/10 Good stuff all around; very professional.
If you want to create your own planet texture you can use a Noise texture and a ColoRamp set to constant. You can use that to drive the landmass and then create another smaller noise/Musgrave texture for the land colors and boom! 100% procedural planet... I love Blender
How on Earth (pun intended) and by what magic did the Transparent BSDF node at 3:49 turn into a TransGENDER BSDF at 3:50 (and then again back into normal)?!?!? Or am I seeing things? I'm just being curious. :-) And thanks a lot for the awesome tutorial!
Here's a tip for you, if your seeing the edges lines of the sphere's in rendered view then you need to either decrease or increase the sphere to make them non visible :)
Great tutorials. Will have to play them back in half speed tho, cuz you go pretty fast. I used your flame thrower tut and was able to get through after pausing and stopping...but great tutorials... keep them coming.
Great tutorial I really appreciate your effort. I've rendered both cycles and eevee with very pleasing results on either side. I even tried a combo of the two atmospheres in eevee which looks great as well.
I've a bit of a problem; when I plug the gradient texture and texture coordinate nodes into the volume scatter one, my whole volume scatter just... Disappears! I'm pretty sure I've followed the steps to a T but my atmosphere is just gone.. Any knowledge??
I have a problem, in the shading view the atmosphere and clouds and everything looks great, but in the rendered view once I get close to the planet, all the land disappears and I can only see the water, it's like the atmosphere isn't transparent enough.
Hi there, thank you so much for this tutorial, it is great. As a newbe to blender I am puzzled though what I am supposed to do with the xml file that I downloaded from your link. Would you be so kind and explain it to me, that would be very helpful, thanks in advance.
I'm getting this really strange patchwork-ish "hole" at the North pole of my planet when I'm working with the atmosphere nodes. Can't seem to work around it. Anyone have any ideas? (Of course, this only works when you use the fake "round" planet type.) UPDATE: Seems that no matter what I do, I get strange banding effects in my atmosphere. Update further: Changing the Shadow Mode to Alpha Clip and adjusting the Clip Threshold fixed the issue for me. Still not sure what caused it.
Not using a certain feature because it's not "physically accurate" is like shooting yourself in the foot. Cycles isn't physically accurate to begin with, just look at the atrocious caustics it's barely able to produce. Also, you just can't achieve certain realistic effects without using the so called "unrealistic" settings.
Thanks for taking time to create the tutorial. I was wondering how would you go about world scaling when it comes to create a space scene with all 10 planets. etc.. ? Thank you
Hello great video Thanks you, Noob struggle: My materials display very well in Material preview mode but in render mode there is no opacity and the clouds appears like a mask, for example the cloud are white but the rest black, any idea how to fix this ? thanks
why do i have a black blur in the middle of my clouds,..!!!??!. i think this cloud object casts a shadow on the sphere below .... something is not right,.... hmmmmm
Roger mc I’ve got this same problem, can you walk me through it? What do you mean by ‘cube size’? Please help before I push someone into traffic. Going insane here. Lol
So I'm stuck at clouds.. My planet is black and has patchy white. The textures don't seem to include the cloud textures that it was switched to the second time.. Sort of at a cross roads on what to do from here -- any help?
Is it possible to create procedural clouds in the sphere using fractal noise to make it much more realistic? Plus volumetric haze to add realism/artisitc to space environment... And use colorramp to animate the water using fractal...
The shadow(from the small planet) that is hitting the main planet shows up twice (once for the planet and once for the atmosphere) instead of showing up as a single shadow on the planet surface. Not sure why this is happening. Anyone have any advice?
heyyy can these textures be used under a creative commons license? couldn't find the info anywhere so i'd really appreciate any clarification xx thank you in advance!

@Reunite The British Empire I feel like thats a good debate topic. I just don't know if a camera could pick up such tiny lit specks... I'm not sure!
for the viewer: do all the steps here, then get the small planet a bit more further and activate depth of field and it ends up PRECIOUS

In the defense of Flat Earthers, it's not a sphere either. Technically, Earth is an "oblate spheroid". So, it's a liiiiiiiiittle flat.
I mean, it's not wrong
Edit : damn autocorrect
Edit 2 : damn autocorrect again
I hate to agree to that but i have to.
Flat earthers after seeing this post be like:
Ha! knew it

2:54 I would like to know why you didn't change the "color space" of Specular and Roughness from sRGB to Non color data
because its not a texture
its a map to specify where to add more specularity and where not to
its not a color its a data soo
