    Sir , i do think everybody will be willing to do postdoc after such grilling in phd programme and also several factor like money,family,society problem etc. Is there any chances of joining in industries (fortune 500) R&D department in india.       Generally good supervisors will expect you to at least have a first cut research topic, and then they may refine it based on multiple factors. The moot point is in IISc don't expect to be spoon-fed, don't wait for some one else to take the initiative - you are expected to define your own research and work on it.

      Government dont care youll be judged by that 1 exam Gate. I strongly suggest you to go abroad and do your doctorate there. Believe me its very easy to do your doctorate abroad where youll do actual research work. Phd in india is just a degree course while its actual research abroad.

      I guess admission is closed for 2020. Sweta you must plan things properly a year in advance for things like this. Asking this question in july for that year's admission is not planning :) so plan properly and all the best

      In every system across the globe there are outliers. Indian education has changed a lot over the years. Especially higher education and research. I find it invigourating and find pride in working with my countrymen including my Profs to push the boundaries of Indian scientific contribution.

      Before joining do good research about the guide..how he/she is as a good person at heart more than the technical aspects. Then look at their profile and area of focus and see if it aligns with your interests. Then talk to heir students and see how the mentorship is. Like do you get to meet often, are they quick to reply to your emails, are they very formal or chill etc. And looking into all this make your decision.

      It depends on the department. Even for life science here in IISc there are upto 6 departments. Most do not need a proposal as far as I can remember.
