Megan Courtney is an American volleyball player. She played for the United States women's volleyball team at the 2017 FIVB World Grand Prix. She was named the best libero at the 2019 FIVB Volleyball Women's Nations League.
Career
Courtney's volleyball career began in 2008, playing for four years with Archbishop Alter High School in Kettering, Ohio. She played college women's volleyball at Pennsylvania State University, where in her freshman season she was the Big Ten Freshman of the Year as well as the AVCA Mideast Region Freshman of the Year. In her next two seasons, she helped Penn State to back-to-back NCAA Titles. In 2014, she earned NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player honors after she recorded career-high 23 kills and 16 digs in the national semifinals win over Stanford. She had 11 kills and 14 digs in the NCAA Championship win over BYU.
International
In 2016, she signed her first professional contract at Leonas de Ponce in the Liga de Voleibol Superior Femenino. In the summer of 2016 also made her debut in the US national team. In 2017, she won the 2017 Women's Pan-American Volleyball Cup gold medal. In the 2016-17 season she arrived in Poland, where he plays the ORLEN Liga with the Impla of Breslavia. In the following season she played for Çanakkale, a Turkish Sultanlar league club.

I don't mind seeing her in Tokyo 2020. I have a strong feeling she will be there, but the big question mark is under what position. I want her to be a defensive specialist and serving specialist and have Karch bring JWO (a natural libero that has shown great improvement) as a starter. It's not like USA has problems with reception, they have Kelsey who is currently the best all around player in the country and a veteran like Jordan who is steady with back court defense. All 3 (Jordan, Kelsey & JWO) needs to gel and work together in system and have Courtney as a sub whenever the Opposite is on the backrow or the Middle is serving and needs to defend (Courtney has backrow attacks too) if they'll be able to do that, USA will have the best back court defense in the world believe me. I dont mind seeing Courtney in Paris 2024 as a starter as well paired with Plummer, given that Larson and Hill (and maybe KRob) will retire from the NT after Tokyo.

World club championship 2019 she plays spiker
we all know it's the strength of the American open hitters and they are historically known for that. Kim Glass, Kim Willoughby, Logan Tom, Megan Hodge, Jordan Larson, Kim Hill, Kelsey Robinson and Michelle Bartsch-Hackley. As for the younger ones, Megan Courtney stands out the most because she's an all-around player just like the aforementioned names as opposed to her fellow younger players or "batch mates" like Madie Kingdon-Rishel, Mikaela Foecke and Kathryn Plummer. In fact, they produce quality players from all positions and the Americans are playing everywhere in the world. There is not a single club team in a league where there is not at least one American player.

I think she is better as an Outside Hitter and will be there leading up to the Paris Olympics. But for libero and for USA's Tokyo medal aspirations, JWO offers more especially in defense. I hope both will do their best whoever is chosen to represent USA.
I think karch would think twice choosing orantes for the olympics after choking big time in the world championships..

@@elitevolleyball7969 sorry, maybe it was the last grand prix.. where she was literally the service target of the opposing teams because she could not pass properly.. Since then, if I remember correctly, karch excludes her in major tournaments..

@@chrissaligan4941 so based on your arguments, USA wouldn’t send any libero since they tanked all finals? Shouldnt the selection be based on current merits and actual real-time performance? Would you pick a player who did well in 2016 for a tournament in 2021? Or will you pick a player who has shown tremendous improvement despite earlier shortcomings due to adjusting with the international game? Who by the way, has played two professional seasons for the first time, helping her get adjusted to international ball even more. Think about it.

I dont really know why a lot of fans hate on Courtney, if there are a lot of better liberos than her, why is she starting then?
Because Karch favors passing and she is one of the best passers for USA but not for the libero uniform. As an OH she's great but the responsibility of being the libero is too great. JWO has improved in the World Cup and I think she deserves the chance to prove herself even more in the VNL 2021.
@@elitevolleyball7969 Agree with JWO. Problem with USA is that they don't have the mental fortitude to win big matches (except for VNL/WGP). If they are in system, they are difficult to beat, but if one passer succumbs to the serving pressure (USA v China WC 2019), it's like seeing a house of cards go down. Kelsey is the best passer in the team imho, but her attacks have improved so much it's gonna be hard to dislodge her from the OH1 position.

I think she will be one of the options of Kiraly for a libero in Japan Olympics. OH are for Larson, Hill and Robinson. While Bartsch-Hackley will be great in Opp with Andrews. MBH will also an option for OH. Hopefully Kiraly will bring just 2 setters unlike Rio 2016 (3?!). Sad to say, no solid and in high level performance the existing squad for MB. Hopefully Akinradewo will return with Dixon.
