The creativity of the animators was really incredible

They are the brothers(Max and David) Fleischer's, they are the biggest competitors to Walt and Roy Disney from late 1920s to early 1940s.
In the end Walt won cause he made 5 epic long animation feature films which something people thought was impossible before and Fleischer only able it to do two long film but they didn't that epic as Disney since Disney style used to be more realistic and magical colorful thanks to Ub Iwerks.
After that Walt Disney biggest competitors from 1943 to 1957 were Warner Bros Looney Tunes and MGM Cartoons like the one directed by Tex Avery and the team of Hannah & Barbera.
It's a cartoon that actually convinces that vegetables "gives power's" but at the same time it teaches kid's to eat vegetables, a rather genius way to make a cartoon in a way to teach children to eat veggies in a way

I wouldn't think a large majority of the public was buying spinach in 1929 (when Popeye debuted) given that it was mostly a vegetable for royalty and in Europe. It started getting a bit more mainstream in the early 20th century (which might also be why the % increased, not just just due to Popeye). Popeye debuted right after the depression in America so it's no surprise media played on a food that was meant for royalty that started to get mainstreamed.

Popeye was actually popular in Japan for a time (I think it was the 50s and 60s, but don’t quote me on that), even to the point where Nintendo made an Arcade/NES/Famicom game based on it. So, maybe Popeye inspired that trope in more early anime that’s still around to this day.
