I don't know this brother from America but he is laying out some hard truth. It's insane when you think about it, Nigeria is the richest and poorest country in Africa! That is frustrating given that Nigeria has some of the most educated people on the continent. So then this means that the ordinary Nigerian never benefits from any economic deals that I made. Also, I don't understand why some of my fellow Nigerian people obsess over billionaires when the same rich folks don't even reside in the continent. And this goes for all African countries, we should stop glorifying the rich simply for being rich. It is time that we worry about the ordinary citizens. SA is one of those countries with a lot of problems but what I have learned is that their citizens are constantly protesting and trying to hold the government accountable. Obviously, protesting alone is not enough and we have seen how the country has been declining, but the people will never give up. What is the point of being called Africa's Giant when the ordinary people are neglected and oppressed and silenced? Congrats Oshay for these needed conversations. We need a lot of self examining.. It is tiring to always be pointing the blame to others when we can do more for ourselves. Mining is not inherently bad if well managed. It is when corruption allows mining companies to skirt environmental regulations which more times than not are in place. The issue with Africans is we have a lot of laws that are loosely followed. Australia benefits greatly from mining just as countries like Norway, Canada do from their oil resources whose revenues are well managed for the benefit of all their citizens.

Lithium is big, but the environmental consequences is outweigh the benefits in terms of environmental pollution. Lithium requires massive amount of water for processing. Our environment will be polluted, water will be polluted, resulting to worsened health condition. Its so difficult to get rid of old lithium batteries, dumping old lithium batteries will lead to massive health problem. Argentina has similar situation.

Joanita is very correct, mining oil in Nigeria has devastated the Ogoni's environment, practically all the Niger Delta environs where oil drillings take place by multinational oil corporations are badly polluted, and there is nothing much done about it. The indigenes have lost their sources of livelihood which, predominantly, are fishing and farming. There is a record of high rate of cancer plaguing the indigenous in that area. Many of the people that protested against the environmental pollution and lack of just compensation to the indigenes had been killed. One of them was Ken Saro Wiwa. Chances are that similar situations might be the case with lithium mining in Nigeria. Just as Joanita pointed out, I am likewise very concerned for the locals in Nigeria, should the lithium mining deal scales through.. Yes, multinational corporations have environmental procedures on paper which they, due to corruption and other sinister factors, never fully implement in Africa the same way they do in Europe, North America, Japan and other countries around the world.
Nigeria have so many educated engineers who can make it right in terms of getting the lithium manufacturing from A to Z so don't rule out Nigeria in this arena.

1st.- I think Africans should minerals *responsibly* and there would be no environmental issues. (Ex; as long as no harmful chemicals are used during the mining process and soil rub-off into streams is prevented everything should be o.k.). Most important thing, after the mining operation is done, reforestation of grass, plants, & trees must be done. Even rearranging the topography (hills shorter, streams deeper - wider) can be beneficial to wildlife. 2nd.- Countries in African may have to rewrite a new Constitution, because somehow governmental corruption is running too rampant. But most of all, develope *Labor Unions* to ensure ppl are being worked and paid fairly.

One problem EV battery makers are trying to move away from Lithium to Sodium for example. Nigeria should be trying to lure Chinese EV makers, but one problem electricity production for EV charging would need very, very serious upgrading and EV production would need very advanced manufacturing which Nigeria just isn't' equipped for. How could Tesla say yes - their stock would tank in value - Africans wouldn't buy cars that they can't charge - that nut needs to be cracked, particularly superchargers for distance travel

Good Morning, why could Nigeria with the highly educated and intelligent people who live there just begin to produce and manufacture the products on their own? This in my opinion would allow them leverage to produce its own brand of Tesla, not allow someone access to its people and its minerals. Creating a type of P3 would allow for the strengthening of their currency against other currencies of the World. In the next 15 years Nigeria will exceed the population growth of the United States. It will be self sustaining within itself! Allow for the common trade with other African Countries, and create a unified currency which is based on the lucrative minerals which are located throughout the Region.

I don't know this brother from America but he is laying out some hard truth. It's insane when you think about it, Nigeria is the richest and poorest country in Africa! That is frustrating given that Nigeria has some of the most educated people on the continent. So then this means that the ordinary Nigerian never benefits from any economic deals that I made. Also, I don't understand why some of my fellow Nigerian people obsess over billionaires when the same rich folks don't even reside in the continent. And this goes for all African countries, we should stop glorifying the rich simply for being rich. It is time that we worry about the ordinary citizens. SA is one of those countries with a lot of problems but what I have learned is that their citizens are constantly protesting and trying to hold the government accountable. Obviously, protesting alone is not enough and we have seen how the country has been declining, but the people will never give up. What is the point of being called Africa's Giant when the ordinary people are neglected and oppressed and silenced? Congrats Oshay for these needed conversations. We need a lot of self examining.. It is tiring to always be pointing the blame to others when we can do more for ourselves. Mining is not inherently bad if well managed. It is when corruption allows mining companies to skirt environmental regulations which more times than not are in place. The issue with Africans is we have a lot of laws that are loosely followed. Australia benefits greatly from mining just as countries like Norway, Canada do from their oil resources whose revenues are well managed for the benefit of all their citizens.
Those countries have very small population with very huge natural resources.... Greater Tokyo Metropolitan has more people than the whole Canada.

Lithium is big, but the environmental consequences is outweigh the benefits in terms of environmental pollution. Lithium requires massive amount of water for processing. Our environment will be polluted, water will be polluted, resulting to worsened health condition. Its so difficult to get rid of old lithium batteries, dumping old lithium batteries will lead to massive health problem. Argentina has similar situation.

Joanita is very correct, mining oil in Nigeria has devastated the Ogoni's environment, practically all the Niger Delta environs where oil drillings take place by multinational oil corporations are badly polluted, and there is nothing much done about it. The indigenes have lost their sources of livelihood which, predominantly, are fishing and farming. There is a record of high rate of cancer plaguing the indigenous in that area. Many of the people that protested against the environmental pollution and lack of just compensation to the indigenes had been killed. One of them was Ken Saro Wiwa. Chances are that similar situations might be the case with lithium mining in Nigeria.
Just as Joanita pointed out, I am likewise very concerned for the locals in Nigeria, should the lithium mining deal scales through.. Yes, multinational corporations have environmental procedures on paper which they, due to corruption and other sinister factors, never fully implement in Africa the same way they do in Europe, North America, Japan and other countries around the world.
Nigeria have so many educated engineers who can make it right in terms of getting the lithium manufacturing from A to Z so don't rule out Nigeria in this arena.

This brother is talking the truth. We must face facts if we must go forward . The truth will set us free.
1st.- I think Africans should minerals *responsibly* and there would be no environmental issues. (Ex; as long as no harmful chemicals are used during the mining process and soil rub-off into streams is prevented everything should be o.k.). Most important thing, after the mining operation is done, reforestation of grass, plants, & trees must be done. Even rearranging the topography (hills shorter, streams deeper - wider) can be beneficial to wildlife.
2nd.- Countries in African may have to rewrite a new Constitution, because somehow governmental corruption is running too rampant. But most of all, develope *Labor Unions* to ensure ppl are being worked and paid fairly.
I pray Nigeria and future nations benefit INTERNALLY and able to contribute global while benefiting.

One problem EV battery makers are trying to move away from Lithium to Sodium for example. Nigeria should be trying to lure Chinese EV makers, but one problem electricity production for EV charging would need very, very serious upgrading and EV production would need very advanced manufacturing which Nigeria just isn't' equipped for. How could Tesla say yes - their stock would tank in value - Africans wouldn't buy cars that they can't charge - that nut needs to be cracked, particularly superchargers for distance travel

Good Morning, why could Nigeria with the highly educated and intelligent people who live there just begin to produce and manufacture the products on their own? This in my opinion would allow them leverage to produce its own brand of Tesla, not allow someone access to its people and its minerals. Creating a type of P3 would allow for the strengthening of their currency against other currencies of the World. In the next 15 years Nigeria will exceed the population growth of the United States. It will be self sustaining within itself!
