Last week I visited Cleveleys Beach to take a few Landscape pictures with the intention of adding them to my website and sell them. Cleveleys is part of the Fylde Coast, North West UK coastline 10-minutes away from Blackpool.
I wanted to include Mary's Shell in the image. Mary's Shell is a public art piece.
The sea level was favourable as the tide was fully in which is exactly what I wanted. A full tide renders the lower part of the shell in the sea, just perfect. The weather wasn't particularly brilliant but as long as there are the clouds in the sky there is always a picture to be had!
I have also included my post-processing workflow to the video too. This way you can see how I create pictures that sell from start to finish.
COMMENTS always welcome
THANK YOU
Gary

Been doing this for twenty five years and still love it when someone inspires me. Great video, nicely put together and I personally love the image. Thanks for posting Gary.
Cheers Tom, thank you 👍
Gary you are the first person who has been able to describe 'fine art photography' and I think you summed it up perfectly. I have only just discovered you and I am already a fan.
Awesome video Gary. Love the simplicity of the image which I feel is the art of "Fine Art photography" Great to see the whole process as well from taking the image to the finished product, magic stuff. Personally, I preferred the colour image, it just seems to add a bit more dimension to the image. Thanks for sharing!!
FINALLY a channel from an experienced guy who does realistic videos that isnt too much click bait ( I would love to see how to sell your images. What channels you put them on etc, and how you price them. You mentioned you put them on your website, but how do you get people over there?)
No fancy pansy guys with over enthusiastic "WHATS UP GUYS!!!" bunch of nonsense.
Thank you John, very kind of you to say. I'll be making a follow up video with the some of the questions you raised
@@GaryGough that's nice of you. I subscribed!
I recently got myself a Sony a7iii and a lens for cheapo.
I used to have an old nikon d60, and I have to say it's way more fun now. The images I get is just amazing compared to the old nikon. So much information from the full frame.
Still have tons of practice I need, but I would love to able to sell a lucky shot if I make one. Even it's a dollar or 10 I don't mind. But the feeling that someone would pay something for my photos would be amazing :)
Keep up the high quality videos.
So far I like them a lot.
Two things have blown me away regarding this video. 1. The quality, info and craftsmanship/artmanship (not a word I know but I just claimed it) of producing the end product. Truly amazing! 2. Why there are so many not likes? What is there not to like. It's a great class. Nice job Gary. I'm a fan.
Thoroughly enjoyable! I love your tips. Oh and yes, I agree with your definition of fine art photos. Thanks
thank you 👍
Excellent stuff as usual, Gary.. Enjoyed your tutorial in PS, so keep em coming. Im going to have to try this out..
Thank you Roger 👍👍
Love your work Gary and I agree with the fine art statement as it gives a person whatever creative latitude they need to make a piece of art.
Thank you Keith 👍👍👍👍
What a beautiful image. I love the color version.
"Art is anything you can get away with" - Andy Warhol
So true 👍
People like Andy Warhol never say those things when they are just starting out though, they wait until they have a large bank balance before saying controversial things.
Damien Hurst is living proof of that
Pretty sure it was Marshall McLuhan who said that....
Just wonderful, I been tryin to find out about "sell nature photos" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across - Cellaatty Unimaginable Command - (do a search on google )?
It is an awesome exclusive guide for discovering how to earn money from your photos without the headache. Ive heard some decent things about it and my mate got cool success with it.
Very nice art! And very nice instruction as well! You've given me some great ideas in both areas. Keep your insights coming!
Thank you 👍👍
Excellent description of fine art photography. It is exactly what I love to do and still learning how to do.

Thank you very much 👍👍
WOW thank you so much. I am a LR and PS user, and I see lots of videos. But the way you explain is just wonderful.
Wonderful tutorial. This is my first view of your tutorials. It was very helpful. It can be so easy to overdo edits in post-processing. This photo looks great in B&W or the blue color. Love the smooth sea. Very nice. Can't wait to see more. Thank you!
You nailed it with this video, Gary, thanks !
great vlog and tips Gary, the one with the marquee tool was something new to learn! thanks for that!

Fabulous video Gary, thank you soo much for sharing 😊
Thank you Gary for sharing your process. I enjoy watching videos like this as its both about a beautiful piece of fine art, and it demonstrates the process of achieving it. I’m with you on your definition of fine art, it’s all about a vision for an image and what a photographer can do to achieve the vision! Thank you for producing great videos and sharing them as you do. Cheers!
I really love this channel. Thank you, sir.
Very very informative Gary, I was hooked! Lovely images and very natural flow tutorial, thank you! Loved both images but the colour one was incredible.
Cheers Darren, very kind 👍

Excellent!!! Love the color version of this show!!!! Thanks!!
Cheers Burt 👍
Its easy for everyone to believe that everything has been shot or taken before you. So what the need to take the shot again. But photography is about that. Mimicking a shot of another picture or photographer to help find your place in the art, in the field, in the world of photography, the aim is to give you the ability to take it to the next level, in evolution of photography, evolution of yourself, its your photo, of that shot that someone thought of, that bring you to their same wave length.
all eyes are different, but are still just eyes.
all pictures are different but are still just pictures.
A camera's role is to act as bridges between the eyes, the pictures and the minds. fine art achieve this goal.
Well said
Gary, Thank you SOOO much for this video. I have been wanting to learn HOW to take this style of pictures. I feel MUCH more confident to be able to add this style to my portfolio. WELL DONE!!!

Stunning, always look forward to your videos Gary,
In my opinion if an image looks good call it whatever you want, art, landscape portrait.
As always Gary fantastic work, thank you for sharing.
Thank you. Agree totally btw 👍👍
Thank you Gary. Total inspiration. My favourite is the colour photograph. Stunning.
You gave me the kick up the backside to go and shoot St Monans pier. And for the past 3 weeks I have been getting up at 4am to travel about Scotland and try and capture Sunrise.
Some good. Some bad. Some ugly. 😂
But I’m getting up and out. And learning all the time.
Thank you again.
And it's comments like this that make all my hard work so worth it. Very kind of you to say, thank you 👍👍
Awesome work! And you make it look so simple!👍👍👍

I'd just like to say thanks .... that was a superb video and tutorial, really well done.
Gary, It is always good to learn some new ways on how to process an image. Thanks, John
You're welcome John 👍🏻👍🏻
Great video Gary, lots to learn from!
GREAT tutorial Gary and GREAT interpretation of fine art, a subject which could go either way depending on your own personal point of view. Some great photoshop tips in there too. A brave vlog that definitely came up trumps for me. Thanks as always for your time and effort...................24, 000 subcribers can't be wrong!
Thank you, Robert. Do you know I thought it was a risky subject to do a vlog on too! I don't know why because right off the bat I did say it was only my interpretation. Somebody else said I was brave to make this vide too. isn't it strange that we fear the backlash of haters? Subjective is subjective, end of! :) Phew that was like a mini rant lol Cheers Rob
Thank you! I like the color photo, enjoyed the black and white processing! Brendan and Thomas??? Perfect!!!
Thank you 👍👍
This tutorial is absolute gold....
Very kind, thank you
brilliant gary, thanks for demonstrating that process with us, I've learnt something new and going to put that into practice myself as I am a lightroom user, I feel relieved that I thought I was the only one suffering from spots and marks all over the image after taking 10 stop images
It's not so much the 10-stopper, it was the F22 that shows the marks on the sensor. Cheers Jim 👍👍
Great video. It reinforced much of what I already knew but the use of the marquee to move one part of the image to another as an alternative to cloning and healing is a revelation as well as the transform tool used at the bottom edge instead of cropping out unwanted distractions and thus allowing you to maintain the chosen dimensions of the image is a revelation. Thank you for an informative lesson.
Gladys Perrier you’re welcome. Thank you
What a great video Gary. Thx a lot.
Cheers
Splendid education tutorial. Thank you VERY much. I have subscribed. You are wonderful.
Excellent tutorial, love the image
Thank you xx
Nice to see you making great Art Works out Cleveleys way Garry! Your long exposure interpretations of the subject works so well.
Thank you Alex, very kind 👍👍
Really enjoyed that... love seeing how others edit. well done
Thank you Alastair 👍
Thanks Gary, really helpful explanation of fine art photography plus a good post workout with plenty of tips, subbed & saved, regards Trevor
Thanks again Trevor. Glad my normal presentation is still up to standards :) Thanks for the sub btw
Gary, I concur with your definition and others that have commented provide some good nuances to the definition of Fine Art. Thanks for sharing your creativity and insight from the camera through post-processing. I appreciate it.
Nice one Gary and super shot, personally I like the colour one best. Nice to see the post processing 👍
Ian Livermore cheers Ian 👍🏻
I like the color version too. It reminds me of an alien artifact or something.
Ridiculous! Everyone knows fine art photography is black and white tsk some people.
@@woody1380 everyone is entitled to an opinion. Have an awesome day buddy!
@@ianlivermore2981 twas a joke buddy, having a pole at those that would balk at colour in art photography
Very beautiful! And very educational!
Thank you Cathy 👍👍
Great video Gary good tips along with shortcuts, you remind me of the late great Barrie Thomas when you are on your computer 👍
You're right Gary. I just Googled him, he is soooo handsome :)
Great video Gary, love the images too. 😊
Thank you Mark 👍👍
Hi Gary, I'm a hugh fan of b&w imagery but in this case it's colour all the way for me. Both look fantastic. Great end result. Thanks a million for sharing.
I've learned so much from you. Thanks!
Love the music, makes me feel your voice more deep. Great video.
Thank you 👍👍
That's some of the most relaxing editing I've ever seen, with that music :)
Really nice video, Gary. This is your first video that I have seen and it is such a beautiful video that I'm immediately subscribing without looking at your other videos first :)
You are awesome! Hoping to learn a great deal from you.
Comments like this just make all the hard work so worthwhile, thank you 👍👍
Hi Gary, Thanks for this video. I have a definition of fine art photography, and it is this: If you see a photograph and you just have to buy it to hang it on your wall because it creates an impact in your soul and you know you will enjoy it everytime your eyes fall on it then you have found something which causes the viewer to linger and take the time to comprehend it, it then, is fine art.
One of the most useful uploads on YT Gary thanks for sharing. I totally agree with you 100% on your interpretation on fine Art photography and your perception on what art is for that matter. Loved your image too, looks amazing. I would perhaps dedicate a lesser part of the image to the sky since the image is more about the structure and less about the sky but I totally get your perception and quite like it your way too. Needless to say I liked and subbed and also turned the bell notification icon to buzz.
Great stuff man thanks again and God bless.
Love the photos. Really appreciate the post processing tutorial. I've often wished you'd do one.
Oh, thank you 👍👍👍👍
