The enemy is working relentlessly to bring down as many as he can. He can be absolutely fierce in his attempts. (I've been in the church for over 40 years. There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man...(1 Cor 10:13) That's everyone!!!!!)
One thing the Lord gave me recently is "the door"--the way of escape out of temptation. (Also in that verse.)
The door can be different for each person, each situation, and each time of tempting. The thing that is the same is that Jesus is faithful. (That verse even says that.)
Ask Him to show you the door out of any temptation you are going through. Mine recently was just two lines that I speak back to the enemy. 1) I don't have to think that. 2) I don't have to do that (whatever he is tempting me to do).
If he comes at me again I use "the door" or if I need to I'll ask the Lord again. Maybe next time it will be a song. One time the song was, "What can wash away my sin...nothing but the blood of Jesus."
ASK.
And if the same temptation comes back again after you have resisted and resisted and resisted, do not feel like you somehow failed. No, you graduated to another level. It's a new room with a new door. ASK again because the Lord is just trying to make you stronger and at the same time, more dependent upon HIM. :D
He loves you, Brother Jay. Don't quit because the only one that loses is the one who quits. Even Judas could have been saved if he had not quit.

I am not trying to be argumentative but I want a UPC preacher or someone that knows tell me why do they say you don’t get it, you don’t understand, your not right, if the crowd don’t jump and shout when they say something. This has always bothered me. There are times I get loud and I jump and I shout and I dance in the Lord, but then there are times He moves on me and I am left humbled and speechless. So many UPC preachers seem to ignore this to the point it sounds like they are condemning the congregation for it. I have preached when there is no reaction and I have preached where the congregation was up and moving made no difference for me I don’t preach for a physical reaction but a spiritual one. Just wondering.
Some say that sort of thing, but it can depend on the audience. If they’re jumping and shouting the whole time, but as soon as something is said that may come across controversial (mostly in Jeff Arnold sermons) the preacher may have that sort of feeling. I know that sort of thing can happen in the flesh, with and attitude of condemnation, but I wouldn’t use the exception to define the rule. God bless, hope this helps a little bit

I’m a upc pastor and I agree with you on your points but what many do is trying to challenge the congregation to get involved by saying out loud their agreement with the preached word
I quit this church when I read the beliefs statement on the website this summer saying that their gospel is 1 Cor 15:1-4 now. Now they preach that the gospel is the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus. That is the worst change I could have imagined. They used to teach that the gospel is the command to repent, be baptized in the name of Jesus for the remission of sins, and receive the baptism of the Holy Ghost, speaking in other tongues as the Spirit gives the utterance. That is the gospel that saved me, and I am not going to stay with a church that has quit that gospel for a cheap incomplete gospel that has damned millions of people to hell just to get more members and more tithes.
John the baptist prepared the way of the Lord by preaching the beginning of the gospel to everyone. He preached a baptism of repentance in water for the remission of sins, and that someone greater than he would baptize them with the Holy Ghost. Mark ch 1 says so. The beginning of the gospel of Jesus according to Mark is repentance, water baptism for the remission if sins, and the baptism of the Holy Ghost. Then it says Jesus said, Repent and believe the gospel, and he preached the gospel of the Kingdom of God.
The book of John says Jesus told Nicodemus concerning the kingdom of God, You must be born of the water and the Spirit in order to enter the kingdom of God. The baptisms of water and Spirit are the new birth of water and Spirit. That is the gospel of the kingdom of God and it was preached by Jesus before he was crucified. You must be water baptized and baptized with the Holy Ghost.
They were preaching the gospel and baptizing more people in water than John did while Jesus was alive. He had never died and been buried and rose from the dead yet. The end of Mark says to preach the gospel to every creature. It is the gospel of repentance, water baptism in the name of Jesus for the remission of sins, and receive the baptism of the Holy Ghost. That is why Mark says those who believe and are baptized will be saved. That is why those who believe the gospel will speak in tongues.Those who reject the message will be damned .
All this harmonizes perfectly with the gospel preached on the day of Pentecost by Peter, as Luke says in the book of Acts ch 2. Repent, be baptized in the name of Jesus for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost...and this is in agreement with the first principles of the teaching of Christ in Hebrews 6:1-4, which says Repentance, faith toward God, the doctrine of baptisms (water and Spirit), the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment.
Those are the first principles that are taught first of all to believers. 1 Cor 15 says that Paul had declared to them the gospel that saves them, ( he was explaining it all in his entire letter ) In his letter he teaches about repentance, faith, water baptism and the baptism of the Holy Ghost, the ministries of the church, eternal judgment. Then he says that he delivered to them "first of all", which means first of all the other parts of the gospel, or, among the first principles of the gospel of Jesus, about the resurrection of Jesus. This topic of the resurrection is not "the gospel" but one of the six first principles of the gospel, which includes 1) repentance, 2)faith, 3)water baptism for the remission of sins and the baptism of the Holy Ghost, 4) the laying on of hands and other ministries, 5)the resurrection of the dead, and 6) the eternal judgment.
I will never quit loving the gospel.
Praise the Lord... I don't know you but I read this and just wanted to point out that those two things are the same thing. Preaching the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ is the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Because he died, was buried, and rose again we can do the same. Without the Gospel of Jesus Christ there is no Acts 2:38. The foundation is Jesus and therefore he is our Gospel.
If you look at the sermon Peter preached in Acts Ch. 2 you will see the Gospel as Paul describes it. Acts 2:22-37. It was the Gospel being preached that caused the people to say what must I do to be saved. To me it sounds like the church got an understanding of what the Gospel truly was. That does not mean they have changed in their beliefs in the plan of salvation.
The Death (Repentance) Burial (Water Baptism in Jesus Name) Resurrection (the infilling of the Holy Ghost) Sis. it is the same thing.
