Just had mine serviced. First service since it was purchased. Caps upgraded to Gold audiophile standard. Wow and flutter calibrated and so the list goes on. Sound quality on B&W is superb.
The Nakamichi decks were a cut above the rest. The Dragon and 1000ZXL models were the best cassette decks on the market for audio quality. It was thought however that some other manufacturers were better engineered and more reliable. Just like most old cassette decks the top of the range Nakamichis sometimes need quite a bit of metriculous care and adjustment, - and there are plenty of things to adjust! The Dragon and some other models had automatic head azimuth alignment on playback which helped maintain the high frequency response.
The one I have here has no audio left channel and , no LEDS activity on VU. When I ramp up and down the Line out slider , I can hear the HISS of the bad channel ramp up and down. That helps narrow down where the fault could be
Thanks man! Just got one, with probably a problematic idler tire.. Aha, turned out it does not have one, it's a gear system / hard plastic. So must be the drivebelt of the capstan. (17-11-2018) .
I am looking for one of these, what sort of price shoikd I be looking at? Currently using my dads Sony TC-K81 and that appears to be a great cassette....
mine refuses to lock the transport in & play. It did FF & Rew for a while but now none of it works. Would that pot be responsible & any videos on how to diagnose & replace
Hi,is it common to have to warm up the 303 for about 5 min before it will give sound?? when i turn on my tape player it will not give sound and the metters will not move for about 5 or so min and then it starts to work and sounds great...can any one help me with that????
I have exactly the same problem with my RX-303. Once it's warm it works fine for days. Your problem might be cold solder joints or worn out capacitors. I haven't tried to fix mine as it only does it if I don't play it for over a week!
