    CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Conspiring with Vivian (Selma Blair), Professor Stromwell (Holland Taylor) asks Elle (Reese Witherspoon) to leave class.
    FILM DESCRIPTION:
Reese Witherspoon stars in this romantic comedy, the feature film debut of award-winning Australian director Robert Luketic. As a ravishing Miss Hawaiian Tropic, sorority president, and calendar girl, Elle Woods (Witherspoon) is a big hit on the campus of her sun-drenched Los Angeles college. She's also got the perfect boyfriend in Warner Huntington III (Matthew Davis), a wealthy East Coast blue blood. Fearing that his snooty friends and family will never accept the bubble-headed Elle, however, Warner dumps her before heading off to graduate law school at Harvard University. Determined to win back her man, Elle enrolls in the same imposing institution, quickly becoming an object of scorn and ridicule, especially to Warner's old prep school flame (Selma Blair). Despite her penchant for malls, makeup, and tanning, Elle is no dummy and is soon showing elite Ivy League snobs a thing or two about class, self-confidence, and courtroom victory.

Actually in Law School, you are expected to memorize any and all materials before the start of the term. Of course, since Elle didn’t have any formal pre-law classes, she was never briefed on this. I, myself, have no pre-law training, I am a teacher. However my classmate in university dropped in one subject for the same reason as Elle here. He wasn’t able to buy his Codal books before the term, thus was unable to read any of it for the first three days of law school. Although he did make up for it later, he still got a low grade because of it, and so he failed that one class and has to take it again this summer. If you’re thinking of ever taking law, please prepare.

Grant Stoutenburg I read a fictional book where a teenager who went to normal public school got a scholarship to a Prestigious Private School and on his very first day at the public school was suddenly picked by a teacher to answer a question about a Historical Figure. The teen admitted something like his normal public school didn't go too much into detail about that Historical Figure, and the teacher thanked him for his honesty but gave him a bunch of homework on that Historical Figure. LOL. :D

She didn't have to get serious. Could've easily thrown in the towel and said "I'm done."
Her getting her thrown out was the teacher giving her a chance to change her attitude and actually give herself a fighting chance.

All law schools in the US (or at least the ones that's worth mentioning) generally all have first day assignments. Law school is more of a professional school than regular school like undergraduate or even medical school. Classes are valued much more. However, everyone has their own learning methods, and being terrible at cold calls is not an indication of how you will do after the semester is over. Doing the readings, however, is generally a good idea.

It was a teaching moment. The teacher is the law in the classroom. She is trying to teach the what she wrote on the board, about law being reason without passion. She was showing students that her law could be flawed for kicking out a student for "passionate" reasons, while making it seem logical.

So say and believe whatever you want: I can guarantee you that a professor (especially a tenured one) reserves the right to kick out a student if they’re not prepared for class that day.
