Hey guys I've never played the Darksiders series before. What do you think, fancy diving in to pits of hell or is it just a touch too expensive for you? I've been really ill editing this so apologies if there are mistakes I'm a ruin of a man! Mark

Played the 2nd game but it's more linear than this first one.
Thanks for the review, I've been trying to decide if this would be worth it or not as this will be my first foray into the Darksiders realm as well. After watching the review I think I'll go ahead & pick up a copy, seems like it will be a great game to add to my collection 👍
At least THQ didn’t put a full price tag on it, so no, I don’t have a problem with the price. If people think it should be priced the same as the already discounted Xbox and PS4 versions (tagging it with the BS Switch tax) they’re idiots. A good port with the portable factor is worth it IMO.

As someone who played this on PC and Wii U, I highly recommend the game. And the sequel Darksiders 2 is also receiving a port treatment I believe towards the end of this year on the Switch as well. Now is as good a time as ever to get on board this franchise which has aged like a fine wine. The apocalypse has never looked better.

Great stuff Mark! I knew you'd like Darksiders. Hopefully they port the other two games over soon. The whole trilogy is incredible, you just can't go wrong with that gory, satisfying hack and slash action.

Edit: So I completed the game today. It was totally worth the price!! Anyone interested in Zelda-like puzzles, you’re gonna like this very solid title. Even the bosses are puzzles on their own.
Also, performance on Switch is incredible. Performance mode is a bliss for this port. I wish future Switch ports of other games follow this path :)

Feels like they are doing their research and providing the honest truth about games, unlike some other sources that occasionally feel like they are not doing either of these things, which should be requisites. I've been gaming since 1985, and am a former subscriber of the legendary Gamefan magazine, so in this day and age, legitimate video game journalism is something I value greatly.

Overrated? I’d say it’s UNDERrated. Darksiders Warmastered is a better game than Zelda Twilight Princess. It’s downright fantastic. And this version is immaculate. The HD Rumble for your heartbeat when you’re low on health, the quality mode + performance mode, the ability to save anywhere, no screen tearing or bugs or framerate issues like some other versions of the game out there, all topped off with being the first ever Darksiders on a handheld, and not having to give up console play to achieve it. MUST OWN MASTERPIECE

Better than twilight princess? I respect your opinion but I highly disagree. Arbiter Grounds alone blows any dungeons from Darksiders.

Gramo Chopin arbiters grounds, lakebed Temple, Snowpeak Ruins, and the fantastic City In The Sky all outshadow anything in Darksiders. And I love Darksiders too. But the dungeons don’t have replay value. Twilight Princess does.

I picked this up used on 360 for €1 the other day. Kid friendly only games go on the switch. Fantastic review - looking forward to playing it now. No performance mode for me though

Nij Bot I grabbed it and 2 on the PS4 for about 7 dollars last year. I don’t blame you for not wanting to spend 30 for portability. However I only started playing it since the game was released

I’ve bought this on Xbox 360 and PS4. My son took the PS4 when he left to college so I’ll be picking this up again. I love me some Darksiders. 👍🏼

A lot of people immediately run to Zelda when making comparisons, but due to the fluid platforming, the darker setting, and some other elements in this game, I'd say it has more in common with Soul Reaver then Zelda. That said, when it came out it was panned left and right by critics for being nothing new or special, and every good thing about it was largely ignored. This was a great game back then, and remains a great game to this day.
This game is now on the PS store for les than $4 yes!!! It is about $3.80 or something like that. And Darksiders 2 for les than $5
The game was alright, but that segment with lasers towards the end pissed me right off lol.
I'm glad you finally got to join the Darksiders hype club! It really is a solid game (and series) and it's awesome to see they did a good job with the port. I love the inclusion of quality vs performance mode as well, very nice touch. Great review Mark!

It is a fantastic game I'm so glad to hear how it runs on switch and the Zelda comparisons are pretty common. You should def check out the sequel it improves combat but a country mile and gives the new main character alot of personality compared to war.

THQ Nordic are really starting to have a big portfolio of games. Enjoyed this on Nvidia K1 tab through game stream but will wait for a price drop to pick up the physical, I'm sure it'll happen, Battle Chasers was £16 physical and that's great

Only played it a small amount and can't really remember it. I've commented on the video but basically it looks alright but due to all the delays I've lost interest. Civ6 has spoiled me to be fair although if they brought Settlers to the switch.........

What I needed this,I'm a proud owner of the switch and love almost everything about it (the stand is shocking)and it's great theres someone who loves the system and gives brilliant reviews on eshop to boot.( Can you do a £10 and under purchase guide for eshop)

I never played Darksiders also. Seems decent enough but it is pricey. I'm keen on character action type games like Bayonetta and Devil May Cry. Honestly not sure if I'd like this.

Finished the game years ago on PS3. I just beat it again recently on Switch and yeah it still holds up well. The combat isn't amazing but still fun but the best part is how the game has actual GOOD puzzles that make you think. so many action games don't even bother with that part but this game goes the extra mile to implement some Zelda-like dungeons and I really appreciate it. There are also A LOT of secrets to collect. Wrath shards, life shards, abyssal armor pieces, combat enhancements, and more. It's practically a 3D metroidvania.
Darksiders is its own thing. Same for Zelda. It's not overrated either it's a solid game with an exceptional story that made me at one point need to see the 3 other horsemen.

Looking for a good hack and slash on the Switch and while I still haven't finished Bayonetta 2 this looks like it'll scratch my itch. I really wish other developers would add a performance mode in more games. I think most Switch owners understand that there are limits to the hardware and probably don't care for resolution over performance in a lot of cases.

I definitely see a bunch of Zelda in this. But I see a pretty decent amount of God Of War as well. I don’t think you mentioned that but if you did my apologies. Definitely late to this party as well. It’s one I’ve looked over since it first came out. But definitely picking this up tomorrow

@@SwitchUpYt this game....ehhhh. I'm less than 2 hours deep and it's already feeling extremely repetitive. The dungeons are interesting and I really like the artwork (JoeMad is my dude), but the combat leaves a lot to be desired thus far. I feel like the main gameplay loop here is frantically tapping attack until I trigger a cutscene.

I was really looking to invest in this but I'm in the minority and don't care for Zelda at all. I found BOTW awful. Would you say, despite the similarities to Zelda, for someone who's not a fan of the Zelda series is this worth investing in?
Yeah it's got so much that makes it unique. If you're a fan of God of War then you'll enjoy. It's just a really fun action game as well.

I found the gameplay to not be intuitive at all. Vast amounts of open empty land, and didn't enjoy the progression of the story. Also, weapons breaking after x amount of use just pissed me off.
I enjoyed Zelda on the GBA when I was younger I guess I just didn't continue to enjoy it as I grew. I do appreciate that many people do love it though and I guess that's what I love about gaming.
Oh and, I generally don't mind survival type game.

Ok, so while I agree with the individual scores you gave to each section pointed out (score, gameplay, visuals...) I cannot help but to think that you might have overscored this one a little bit... is it a great addition to the switch catalog? I'd argue it is, considering that it is a port (however well done) of a remaster of a game that came out years ago.... I want more original triple A games for the switch, not more remasters or ports.

Hey guys its on sale for 14.99 USD until the 3 of June.
1) Suggest to have chapters separating & let players to have some break. Now the game just ask you to keep fighting without stop. Feeling that no story but just ask you to keep fighting for no purpose.
2) Control sucks. You get to be very familiar with control or else you would keep dying, like flying, focusing when you use guns or boomerang.
3) Graphics are nice but sometimes the view keep rotating (automatically) that you would get fainted if keep looking at the monitor.
4) Zelda is much better as I enjoy playing Zelda, while keep arrogant when playing Darksiders.
The second game is bigger and better in every way. My favorite. I can’t wait for it’s Switch release. It’s a matter of time. I just bought this game though. The Warmastered for the Switch. This will be the 3rd Darksiders 1 I own. To have it truly portable is awesome. These are the games I want portable. Now just put Kingdoms of Amalur on Switch and work on its sequel and that should hold me over for awhile.
Very well written review, Mark, with a nice bit of British humour tossed in for good measure. After getting Battle Chasers physically for Switch, this’ll be the next THQ game on my list. Keep up the great work you’re doing for our beloved Switches.

also, as a huge fan of the darksiders series, #3 is kind of bad..I love the idea of the souls bourne type of game.. the god damm non exsistent check points and the 35+ second loading screen while playing on apocalyptic difficulty is shortening my life span.

Normal mode can see you facing amazingly difficult combat scenarios and there's no way to drop the difficulty. In short, Normal mode presents anyone with serious challenge but you may not realise until 60% into the game.
Reminds me of all the God of War games I've played on older consoles than anything else tbh. That's not a bad thing, it's just funny to me how many cues this took from the GoW games in my opinion. Probably not gonna be a go-out-and-buy-right-now game, as I'm more interested in waiting for Dragon's Dogma and Assassin's Creed 3 at this point, but I'll probably end up picking it up at some point down the road

Zelda was one of the games that inspired this game. It was explained as a grown up Zelda game.

wonder why my audio for this game is broken...like some sounds are muffled or dont play most times.

Super game - get this IMHO! One thing: it was almost unplayable for me with the joycons, luckily the 8bitdo Pro 2 did the trick admirably 🤩
So you independently came to the same conclusion that every other reviewer came to by comparing it to Zelda OoT but how did you come to that conclusion? Just the lock-on targeting?
It’s the whole structure of the game, the combat mechanics the “dungeons” with simple puzzles and maps. I don’t know if you’re being sarcastic though lol. Mark
Many have compared it to Zelda, its not just you. Such an amazing game, the Ending really moves me alot.
Don't own other consoles but the game looks dam good and yes i'm the 1 idiot fool that has NEVER PLAYED this game in the past 9+ so years at all. Portability may be a big factor for trying this on switch first time.

@@zionich I'm not a double dipper i just love action RPG type games and this one has some zelda vibes and looked good that i'm tempted to shell out the extra 10 dollars for both portability and to experience this game for the very first time. 18-25 hours of fun gameplay seems far better then most of the DREK out there in the TRIPLE AAA industry.

i love this game. i cannot believe they are failure. i have all the versions from ps3, Xbox360, PS4, PC and Switch😢
I'm struggling to make my switch work for me and enjoy it more. My expectations are high after botw. As well as Nintendo's online service and very chat is the worse on line experience by today's standards. I ordered this game hopefully it does not disappoint. I now only see the switch as a lonely console for games only like this. Which can be a bad or good thing.

I can see some zelda similarities but I really hated the 2nd one on WiiU is it better? I found that clunky and archaic a gameplay reminding me of of PS2 action games

2 is pretty much better than 1 in every way unless you found 2’s loot system overwhelming you probably won’t like 1 if you didn’t like 2.
