When Cody wears gloves you know shit is dangerous
TheRedKnight so true
Considering how he puts his bare hands into mercury, I'd say you are correct.
the rougemillenial , same. I work in a lab. Unless there is immediate danger to my self, I won't wear gloves.
Huh. Buncha pussies. =D I worked gloveless for years with intercalating mutagens and assorted radionuclides. And then I went through the resultant surgeries, chemotherapy, and radiation.
Lol gangsta
Wow, Cody is using gloves, then you know it's toxic!
Mika Mäkkinen I think salts get through the skin alot easier than metallic substances
Nope : he wants to avoid Thallium contamination... Cody's special skin gamma-rays could destroy quickly these poor atoms ;-)
Mika Mäkkinen allll too right
Anastasia Siyankovsky yea but working with that is the closest thing to suicide known
So funny haha
Prussian Blue...That's what Bob Ross uses!
Truly Infamous "hwhite"
Nobody can poison Bob Ross with Thallium! He's always prepared
95TurboSol If you try to assasinate bob with putting pills into his drink he will die happy if you put even numbers of pilla cause each one will have a freind
but Cody pronounces it wrong! It's like Russian but with a p
LOL, thats what i was thinking too!
next make a gas dense enough to float liquid!
Mralabbad hexaflouride?
Unfortunately the densest gas is way less dense than the least dense solid or liquid, at least at STP.
yeah i went to look if it was possible after i posted this comment
and apparently the densest gas is still 80 times less dense than water
which is not the least dense liquid but just for comparison
You can float aluminum on sulfur hexafluoride, but that's due to the Archimedes principle
i just looked it up
that was awesome, thanks :D
though i see how it's different
Back in the 1980s, a scientist at the Los Angeles Museum of Natural History developed a method of finding micro-fossils (things like mouse toes and what not). He would crush matrix (rock) that he had reason to believe contained micro-fossils, and then poured the crushed rock into a very heavy liquid. Mineralized fossils are just a little bit less dense than the surrounding rock, and the liquid was designed to be heavier than the fossils but lighter than the matrix. The fossils would float to the top en masse. He had tremendous success at finding very many new fossils this way.
Victor-charles Scafati hey Cody, why don't YOU try it? You've got tons of limestone on you're property.
Tak wa Yiu That's a great idea. Sounds like a "Cody" thing to do.
How did he not crush the fossils? and the fossils still could stick to the rock
Thx for that info
@@ep9144 just luck I guess
Notification squad is a bunch of nerds. I just sit here and refresh Cody's page until a new video is up.
don't we all ?
I just check my sub box.
I see you with your vat 19 references
TRUE
To be fair, i think most people watching this stuff are nerds....
"yeah this is one of the most toxic metals, that is why it is shipped very delicately. I will now take it out, clean it, and play with it."
That’s my team on league of legends. Dense enough to float diamond.
So toxic you need to wear gloves.
You're probably bronze IV noob
@@ATLTraveler you're probably not funny
Cody, you should really try something: High voltage electronic sparks in your vacuum chamber!
They should be much longer and thicker, eventually turning into gas discharge light as you decrease the pressure. You could even recreate the dark-light zones in 3D!
You can buy simple high voltage generators from for example eBay for 3-6USD, or even create your one from an old television's flyback tansformer. You can even buy flyback divers from eBay, or google up "Simple flyback driver".
Thanks: a fan
How would they be much longer and thicker if there is less atmosphere. There would be less matter for the electricity to go through. Electricity just cannot jump through no air, it needs something to run through. I'm not an expert but I think in a chamber near perfect vacuum, sparks would be impossible
He already has high voltage transformers, most likely. He was planning on building a farnsworth fusor, some time ago.
Jacob Swarthout What, no? Electrons travel easier in a vacuum, I mean, that's the whole principle behind vacuum tubes, fluorescent light, CRT's etc.
@Jacob Swarthourt If you decrease the pressure, the "sharp", thin and bright spark becomes more and more a gas discharge light, like one in a neon tube: wider, dimmer, fog-like.
Not self-advertising, but I uploaded some days ago a short clip of a discharge tube experiment, with the dark-light zones, for asking a related question on Stackexchange. Check it out if you are interested (I have 3 videos total...)
Pioneerz no, the reason reason why the best capacitors are the best is because they're in a vacuum. if there were molecules floating about they would be used as a medium in which to transport electrons
fluorescent lights have a gas in them that relatively efficiently emits light when excited, it is not a vacuum
look up permeability of free space

Máté Nagy Cool! You copied and pasted the top comment!
Cody, you have helped me a lot during your youtube career. So it was Dec 24 2014 I found you channel. I started watching you videos in learned a lot about rocks liquids and radioactive rocks. In school my science grades were B- but since I started watch your videos about these things I learned more it’s like a tutor on CZcams now my science grande are A+ and I’m in Science Olympiad the schools science team. So thank you very much Cody for this.
Cody there's an intermetallic compound of gold and aluminium that has a purple colour, and the analogous gallium and indium compounds are blue. Upon looking through the internet there doesn't seem to be much information on a thallium one... might be an interesting video to make if you survive it ;)
Muzik Bike lol yeah "colour" ..... get the fuck outta here you Brexit inbred.

Hello, Ameriburger.
It's not his fault he is spelling the word right, and that your country is obsessed with making your own spelling by lopping off letters randomly.

Cool, as always, but MAN I worry about you playing with those toxic mixtures.
Stay safe, my man!

Good Lord. Cody, your production value is better than when Discovery was at their peak in the 90's. It was the year 2000 when I shut off the television. Never looking back when we got content creators like you.
Just want to say thanks for these videos, I've personally learned a lot from your channel. Keep up the awesome work.
So glad I found this channel! You're great Codydon!
Cody is one the only people that will casually get a diamond out of nowhere and just drops it into a toxic solution
Cody's actually wearing gloves, you know it's about to get serious.

Thanks to Cody for doing this, so We don't EVER have to. Fascinating.
Stay tuned for the next video, where cody test the limits of how much of this stuff he can drink!

Is everyone just gonna ignore the fact that he just has a literal diamond just sitting around
freaking amazing. love this series.
production quality has improved recently. keep up the hard work.
Cody, for one of your next mercury videos you should try to extract mercury from tuna
spawnage17 that could be cool....... fuvkload of tuna though
He tried that before, and failed. He later found out why, in his X-ray video.
Lol
Haha those black gloves make you look even more badass than you already do!
I've been learning about mole at school, it's very funny how it seems so logical and easy when you got it figured out. I'd love to see you explain your calculations more! I and many others will probably learn from it.

Wait a minute... he never took off the gloves in the video. Then you really realize that this is very dangerous...
Omg

Bentonite and Barite, I had rig hands mix thousands of sacks (100#) to increase the density of drilling fluid for many years..... Also workover fluids with high density (usually salts) MgCl and others, many mixed in ratios to obtain high density to hold the gas and or oil back in the formation..... the last thing you needed was 10 or 15 bbls of gas coming into the well at depth, say 15,000' expanding as it came towards the surface, many people lost their lives in situations like that...... especially if the gas was H2S......
I thought for sure it would have not floated. Very well done sir.
love that glove jump cut nice touch
You know its seriously dangerous when cody wears gloves. I fucking love this channel. Keep the vids coming cody!
Love the videos! but forgive the incoming pronunciation correction!
Clerici - pronounced [clare-E-chi] and not [slur-see] - I wouldn't have said anything had Enrico Clerici been an Italian-American, because he might have pronounced his name that way had he wanted to Americanize it somehow. He was however from Italy, lived in Italy, and died in Italy, so it stands to reason he pronounced his own name in a traditional Italian manner.
Awesome job, Cody!
Verbos also prussian like russian
Happy 1 million!
Just saw you on outrageous acts of science!! Congrats man!
you should make a huge liquid tower!
Cody can you do a video on responsible ways to dispose of chemicals
drink it
Nice video, Cody!
I find it really interesting that a liquid can float a solid object, even though I have seen it happen many times before, it still amazes me!!
What would it feel like to swim through it? If you somehow managed to resist the toxin of course. Can you walk on it? Run? Skid across at high speed? Are these dumb questions?
I think it would be very easy to float on (seeing as water with a high concentration of salt can be easily floated on), considering that Cody said he felt mercury pushing him up when he stuck his hand in it, it would probably be very hard to swim in, as it would resist your down motions and throw you up with the up motions.
Walking would require a lot of balancing on your side, but a guy has walked across the Thames with what people think were some kind of flotation devices. Skid across at a high speed, probably.
As for the last question, yes, a little bit, but it's better to ask dumb questions than no questions at all.
Disclaimer: This is a not so educated guess made from second-hand (at best) experiences, so don't quote me.
Humans have a mass of about .98 g/cm³, and this liquid has 4.25 g/cm³. You would not break the surface of the liquid unless you push down on it with extreme force.
Corundum? Did the Dwarves give you that?
Camicus - thats what I was thinking 😂
Camicus - won't it be dwarven steel ingots
Camicus -
It's in the mithril mine!
Corundum is a crystal of aluminum oxide. Depending on what's in it and it's color will give it different names. Two of them are ruby and sapphire.
*aluminium
congrats one a mil subs!
That Was pretty cool Cody.
How does this compare in density to non-Newtonian fluids like oobleck?
This is about 4 times denser than oobleck and it is a Newtonian fluid.
The question is, though: "could it float one of my shits after a 50oz steak?".
Hope you weren't cutting that steak with the knife that Cody was using here.
oz like in The wizard of oz?
I sometimes ponder that same question bro. Last night I lost the war with my guts, and an excremental demon followed soon after. Chilli sausages are delicious going in, but going out is another matter. Let's just say, you should keep some toilet paper in the fridge for an emergency.
GamingTutor Thanks for the laugh
so original....
LOL nice Cody your getting good at the editing :p love the gloves 0:45
I love this channel.
Because of your video on "Drinking Cyanide" and proving that poisons are lethal only based on the dose, not the poison, then how much Thallium do you think someone can consume without any harm?
Thallium is a cumulative toxin like lead. I would not recommend drinking any of it. Cyanide, although acutely more toxic, is better processed and clensed from the body.
@@kaylen8705 Unless you live in the UK and are a friend of Graham Young.
Cody what do you do with all the hazardous waste you generate? Do you precipitate all the heavy metals out of solution to minimize the volume?
He says an upcoming video will cover disposal.
He finds out dislikers and mix them in their water supply
Cody, show us your collection of everything you've gathered over the years that would be awesome
Holy shit, 1,000,000 subs! You deserve way more like, Grant Thompson numbers but onwards and upwards! Here's to 10x more!!!!
I'm surprised you didn't try making it with heavy water, given your latent obsession with it!
couldn't you just calculate density using the old eureka method? why would you have to do this instead?
What if your mineral grains are microscopic and mixed with lots of different materials?
Cody'sLab that would be impossible to calculate unless you had a very powerful microscope and a really small measuring tool
Cody'sLab Also, you pronounced Prussian wrong. It's pronounced as "Pruh-shin", named after Prussia, an old German state from the 1700s to the end of World War 2, which now is part of Poland and Modern day Germany.
ah so you could use it to identify and separate things in a mechanical mixture. pretty cool :)
Hey cody, just wanted to say thanks for the videos you have made. I have learned a great deal of very cool science, and plan on sharing some with my 2 boys. Ever heard of someone surviving a 76' fall out of a tree before?
I like the way Cody has a healthy respect for everything he works with
Let's make an incredibly toxic and carcinogenic liquid! Then.. 4:19 - I kinda wish you did that on purpose Cody!
now what a bout a liquid that floats on gas?
Mike Jman you even edited this...
Joe Yummiestanimal hey it would be cool
No way possible
Colin K you can float aluminum at room temperature so it’s a solid on a gas that is 6x denser than air.
I forgot what it’s called tho.
The transition is great
You know, I have no clue what you are talking about but I've been subbed for a while and your videos are so entertaining even though it sounds like a different language sometimes
3 people are first, reminds me of trying to get in line as a child!!
I mean judging by your profile picture you probably still are one.
No comment on mine.
Not a child, I just love the Minecraft cows!!! Besides, who said that Minecraft is for children? The creator of it is 37 years old, and most of the CZcamsrs who play and post Minecraft videos are definitely not children. In addition, the crew of Todd Howard played Minecraft and enjoyed it. Using a principle of substitution, are you saying that games like Skyrim, Oblivion, Fallout, and others were made by teams of children?
You have a point.
Your point is flawed. Just because something wasn't made by a certain audience, doesn't mean it isn't meant for them. For example, kids books tend to be written by adults.
i started this...

how do you calculate for the density of a mineral
Water displacement is pretty simple. Weigh the mineral, measure how much water it displaces, divide and boom, ya got density.
