The Migraine Guy - What to Expect When Seeing a Neurologist

  • In this video I discuss my time with a local neurologist. I address what the neurologist looks for and what they do to see if they can justifiably recommend an MRI, fMRI, or CT scan. Additionally, I explain what a neurologist might do if they cannot recommend any specific answers (spoiler alert - it is not inspirational).

Sleep apnea can cause low blood oxygen levels, which can cause severe incurable migraines. My dad used to have crippling migraines prior to getting a CPAP machine for his obstructive sleep apnea. It works by basically pushing air into your mouth and nose when you take a breath to force your airway open to help you get enough oxygen with each breath. My dad says it takes time to get used to them, but, they are really helpful.

Good bit of advice. In this vid I wasn't trying to say that a sleep problem couldn't be contributing to my migraines (obviously it could!), but I was just frustrated that this neuro was saying I didn't have migraines at all. Though, my sleep is better now and I still get em... :\

Thank god I live in Sweden where the MRI is free aswell as most doctor visits. I can’t imagine how difficult it is to afford all those things

Even with average insurance, an MRI runs about $500. :|

Do they attach anything to your skull to diagnose your brain like in a sleep study?(Wondering if anythings going to get put in my hair lol) I really hope I get more fulfilling results than you did I pretty much had the same bs you did here but at the sleep clinic. Although my reason for going is different. I hardly ever get headaches but I was recommended for being unable to sleep, rare fainting, and memory loss/ spacing out

+Nallum hi! They can run an EEG if they want, but that would be odd for a first visit. However, if you want them to do so, you can tell them what you'd like and explain why. If they see value in it, they might schedule it for a follow up visit.

I'd think they'd need skin contact so they'd have to shave it

Not usually! They will likely cover your head in gel tho.

sup migraine guy, say I served 99'-03' as a Gunner's Mate in the U.S.Navy, 100% DAV. my history of migraines go back to 07' when diagnosed with PNES by the Mayo Clinic. Not till this year 17' did I get the proper medical care to find why I'm having Grand Mal seizures daily. boy was I surprised when the doctor came back and almost medevaced me to a facility that could handle my conditions. So just because you get a diagnoses does not mean those doctors won't cover for each other. since my medical records are now missing mri scans. the one scan the doctor showed me with a white mass on my frontal lobe he deleted it. Not kidding I have the proof.

all this is do to military service and is service-connected so I don't need help, only sharing my experience with so called medical professionals that are so far in school debt they are willing to half ass a diagnoses.

OH MY GOD!!! That's insane! So many questions! But first - thanks for the checking the vid. Hope you subscribe!
Wow, so, I'm just reading through the PNES entry on a few websites and it sounds like misdiagnosing is ridiculously common. My good buddy gets em pretty bad without his meds, so hopefully his diagnosis is correct. So, are you planning on any legal action against the doc who DELETED your scan?

Spider Mcgavenport I'm a nurse and sadly learning this is more common than I'd ever imagined. Lately I've become ashamed of the profession I once loved so much.
