  • This is no via ferrata! Trail running the most exposed mountains in Scotland, free solo climbing without ropes, and general scary mountain climbing - This skyline traverse along the Cuillin ridge is not easy climbing!
    Pro Climber Robbie Phillips attempts this epic ridge running challenge on Isle of Skye, Scotland. Popular for mountaineering training, the team try trail running this ridge to break the speed climbing record on Scotlands most exposed mountain.
    With ground falls, broken holds, and rock fall climbing here is scarier than free soloing El Capitan….maybe a slight exaggeration
    Thank you to 3 Bears Porridge for supporting our ridge challenge.
    The Cuillin ridge is a dangerous climb and shouldn't be undertaken without suitable equipment or guidance if inexperienced.
    Follow Robbie Phillips, pro rock climber, and Culann O’Brien, Filmmaker, on ridiculous climbing adventures. From van life and travelling to wild places from Yosemite to indoor climbing training in the climbing gym. All craic, no crap - it’s just pure unadulterated climbing!

      I’m sure one day you’ll get there. The cuilin is physically enduring, but not super hard climbing. And it’s more of a mental game as it can be quite exposed in places

    In all seriousness-no-one should attempt this without guidance or proper safety equipment. I mean I get that most of us can guess that these guys have a lot of experience-but there ought to be some warnings on here. If someone watches this on youtube and thinks it would just be a bit of a laugh-they could end up in serious trouble. Sorry to be a grouch. Enjoyed the video.

    • @RobbiePhillips
      @RobbiePhillips  Před 3 lety +4

      I agree, you shouldn't attempt this without guidance (if inexperienced) or proper safety equipment (if necessary).
      We didn't use ropes because we are comfortable on that terrain and well within our ability level - using ropes would have slowed us down, however to most climbers a rope/climbing gear would be a very wise addition - I did say that in the film. We also had a map and GPS so we knew where we were at all times.
      We joked around because that's in our nature, but we did take it seriously as we attempted it. I feel the video did get that across in places, but maybe we should have placed a cautionary point. I'll add it to the description :)
      Thanks for the comment

      @@RobbiePhillips Great. Thanks for the prompt response. Was worried about seeming a killjoy. But as someone much less skilled I’ve seen some of that terrain up close-and with those less skilled (like me!) its potentially deadly. Still very much enjoyed the vid. And was impressed!

    • @RobbiePhillips
      @RobbiePhillips  Před 3 lety +1

      I would recommend both a rope and porridge, but if I could only take one, I’d take the porridge because you can probably get through any serious situation with a bowl of porridge.

    Out of interest did the record team use any protection for the climbing sections? I can imagine having teams of assistants in key places with food and kit would speed it up but 3 hours is just ridiculous.
