People criticised Chris Massoglia's performance a lot but I thought he made a fairly good Darren Shan and John C Reilly was perfect as Larten Crepsley!
Yeah I think playing a vampire would be difficult, so taking that into consideration he did a good job Imo
It was very VERY different from the book and inferior in my opinion. But I was still really good and a different take on the role.

I don't hate the film, but, it's pretty mediocre. They changed too many details and made it comedic. A good Saga of Darren Shan Film would get a 9.5/10 from me.
This one is like 5/10.
@@blazeisonfire As a Darren Shan adaptation, I agree, the movie can't really be given more than a 5/10. I just pretend that it's a completely unrelated movie and I find that it becomes a lot more enjoyable when you aren't comparing it to the much superior books.

Merlough was appered in the 3rd book normally that was the old friend of derren steve came out for trying to kill darren but he lost
@@maxencepaquette2883 It's not just that Steve "lost", it's the fact that even though he was livid and betrayed, Steve realized last minute that he couldn't bring himself to kill his best friend (or someone who used to be his best friend). So Steve swore to Darren that night that he would train himself to be a killer and that when the day came, he would spend the entirety of his life hunting Darren.

(If you haven't read them, just know, that this movie is not even close. It might as well be a different franchise. The books are deep and meaningful and amazing. They aren't comedic at all. They are SUPER serious.)
"They aren't comedic at all"... that just makes it much worse. The Murlaugh in the book seemed so stupid that its comedic.
I was shocked to see how different the movie was and I didn't even recognized its the same story when I first saw it, but if you don't compare it to the books it isnt half so bad. Specially for a film that is probably low budget.
The books I couldnt even finish since its only a 5/10 at best.

captain Wentworth Well.. This movie tries to be movie about first 3 books but ...actually it does horribly and changes of the books.. all of 12 books...in same movie

A lot of changes from the books as people say but here is my worst gripe. The fight in the books between Crepsley and Murlough is stated to be a short affair NOT GEARED TO IMPRESS A MOVIE AUDIENCE. The entire fight is over in four moves.
The amount of drawn out fighting takes away a lot of the sence of danger and horror you find in the books.
I feel like that doesent translate well to a film tho

I know this is really weird but John C Reilly sounds like Vic Mignogna in this..
This movie really annoyed me. The book was surprising touching for a kids book and quite heartfelt, especially the parts where Darren misses his family. But the movie made it in to some kind of joke. It completely missed the emotional nuances of the book. This could have been a great film had the actually treated the source material with some respect.
Yes, the film is too silly... it has a few good visuals but they change way too much stuff.
