    I soak my line in water with a little bit of wd40 for a week. It takes off any memory and oils up the line so it is less stiff on my spool stops it from gaining a memory over time. the wd40 does not weaken the line in my experience I have done this with everything from 2lb test to 80lb test mono/fluoro and with braid as well in different weight sized

    I have a question, I just got my first baitcaster and spooled it with 12 lb fluorocarbon (as main line with no other line involved), but people tell me fluorocarbon should be used as a leader like and to use monofilament instead. Will I still be able to fish normally? Thank you so much!

    • @MidwestBassHunter
      @MidwestBassHunter  Před 2 lety +2

      Yes you will be fine. I do use fluorocarbon as a leader but I also spool baitcasters with it completely. No problems, it is a definite no go on a spinning reel though, just use braid with a flouro leader in that situation.

    • @MidwestBassHunter
      @MidwestBassHunter  Před 3 lety +1

      That’s a good reel. It should be plenty to fill the reel. I will say that 20lb braid is very thin and might cause some headaches on a bait caster. The other thing with braid is that when you tie the line to the spool put about a 1” piece of tape over the know on the spool or put 20 yards or so of monofilament line on first and then tie your braid to that. Braid tied to a spool without either of these methods will slip on the spool. Good luck out there!

      Loosen up the tension knob, should be near your crank handle. Loosen it until you can open your bail and your lure can hit the ground without much of a backlash, you can adjust it to each bait size, then you can loosen it further as you get more comfortable. If you look back through my channel I have a few videos on using and adjusting baitcasters.

      I have never had an issue with knot strength for sure. It can be stiff especially in the heavier sizes. I find deals on it but it is much spendier than mono and even sometimes braid. I do like it for several applications though. I always use it for leader material also.

    Don’t understand why you would put line through the first guide for proper spooling and then tension line close to reel. Tension should be before first guide not after. Your way takes several casts before line lays properly on the reel. Very disappointed

      @Midwest Bass Hunter I'm just joshing. I bought the berkley vanish once and had a real tough time with it backlashing and just wanting to jump off the spool. I let it sit for a couple weeks and then never had an issue with it again.
      The spider wire just seems a little brittle to me. I used to use braid exclusively on all my reels and liked the field and stream and power pro.

      @@victorl4074 yeah man, two ways you can do it.
      1. Use mono line as backing, put on 10 yards or so of mono then tie your braid to the mono, I use a know called an Alberto knot.
      2. Put a little bit of tape over your knot on the spool, then it will never slip. I like to use black electrical tape.

    • @MidwestBassHunter
      @MidwestBassHunter  Před 4 lety +1

      I only used the hole in the spool to get the line around the spool. You can just thread it around the spool and not need any holes. I loved my old intro but it was too long. Check out one of my latest videos, let me know what you think of my new intro if you would, very short, less than 9 seconds.
