Les’s director’s commentaries are hands down my favourite content. Anywhere.
He’s so engaged and keeps making them better, longer, more interactive.
Is there another TV series that has done more complete ‘behind the scenes’ or director’s commentaries? Maybe podcasts (How I Met Your Mother, etc.) but probably not what Les is doing. He’s leading the way again and Wouldn’t be surprised to see more shows try it. Then again, hard to get 100% of the cast involved. Easier when Les IS the cast. And director. And producer, etc.
100% agree! His insight into his own videos are awesome!
Yea its awesome getting behind the scenes on my childhood haha
Yep. Whenever I see a new one of these I get stoked and it's always a special experience.
Another great adventure my Canadian brother. I would also like to congratulate you on being the new chief scout for Scouts Canada. All the best Les and always remember to follow your nose! 🇨🇦🦫
It's like Lars Ulrich talking about Metallica
I followed this man though every episode and learned alot,I'm a native Indian man from the Yukon and I'm a survivalist and I still learned a couple things from Les and believe we can all learn something new. Never close yourself off to new learning.
Is the Yukon Quest running 2023 or Trudeau has it shut?
I think there’s a few episodes where Les goes learns a thing or two from natives down in South American and also the Inuits of the north. We learn something new everyday!! That is life my friend 👍
Sure as shit man, none of us knows all.
There's something about Bob. The obvious friendship, kindness and ribbing of those two what fun. Just watching the retelling of it such a gem, Les is grinning and charming speaking of his friend. More Bushman Bob and Les please.
Les the absolute GOAT is back at it again
I heard he Is the Kodak killer
It is NOT easy to spot somebody from a helicopter! Love these commentaries so much. Survivorman is and always will be one of my favorite shows ever.
More Bob! More Bob! It's fun to see you two go at it, yet you can tell there is such a love and friendship between you two! Makes it so real... cause it is!
The survivorman series really sparked my love of the wilderness all those years ago. I remember being about 16 watching these when they originally aired.
Your approach to video production is legendary, Les. I love hearing these behind the scenes stories and insights. Thanks for posting them!
The tangents are the best part, you tend to share more insight into yourself when you branch off. Thank you for the added content.
It is a sincere moment ..and is a memory from Survivorman!!
After watching everyone of the survivalman episodes, a 100 times. It makes it like it's a total like it's a totally new series, Watching it over again just to find out the extra details. Much love led
I absolutely LOVE the friendly banter between you and Bob. It's clear that you guys have been frinds for a long time. My friends and I joke like that too. Bringing Bob in for some episodes every now and then are great. He adds a comedic undertone to your series and I'm always looking forward to more Bushman Bob stuff. :D
My family has a cottage on the Ontario Peninsula and we go for frequent walks through the bush, there's some pretty thick areas. It would be neat to see you try and survive up there. It's a beautiful land.
I'm going to be a sad boy once I watch the last of the director commentaries. It's been great hearing from Les again. He is my hero x10.
This was my one of my favorite episodes. I remember enjoying Bob’s positivity, funny how his smile was extra work on your end.
Les: *death stare*
Bob: "I liked that line"
Lmao 🤣
Anything Les does is top notch and he seems to put his entire heart into it. Has more credibility than any other so called survival instructors there are......in my opinion.
Terrific episode, great reminiscence. Have Bob sit in on any random episode, I say. It'd be great to see him smile.
My favorite part of the scene with Bob delivering the last line about geese is this. The part where Les says, "Ok, ..." and then is about to turn to Bob, just focus on looking at Bob. You will see, Bob, VERY slowly, turn his head in a "what the hell are on on about" type way. It cracked me up the first time I saw it, and it STILL cracks me up now.
I thought for sure it was a comedy sketch they put in there!
Les still having that 4 wheeler and still putting it to use is awesome.Keep up the good work Les,your a legend!
Les, those side stories are the best to listen to and you're such an engaging storyteller. That's all the stuff we're here for :)
Fun fact: all movement of the muscles requires ATP, including relaxation of them. Rigor Mortis is the lockup of muscles caused by body having used up all the remaining ATP
Remember watching survivor man when I was a kid. The one when he was in a canyon in the US was my favorite. Glad I found him again becuase I love it
Nostalgia feels, absolute Legend. 🧡👌
How I miss Temagami, beautiful lakes and lodges. Love the little shops and burger stands in town too , all along the highway.
Can't wait to check this out.
I love this scene, and watching Bob and his humor, yeah that scene was fun. And Bob could handle you, I'm certain of it.
The realness of les is unsurpassed. I will forever watch you content sir.
Agree!...my son does amazing music for these type of projects. Beautifully said! Support those artists!!
Don't try to lay no boogie woogie... I'm the king of [trees 'n soil].
Love the story telling Les!
You mention the relief of having a second "character" with you when filming one of these shows. People who haven't worked a film production wouldn't believe how much work it is just to get 10 minutes of usable material..
I would estimate you work roughly an entire day for every 10 minutes of content. I don't doubt you could spend 7 whole days surviving and filming, yet still be concerned you don't have enough for a full 50 minutes episode.
The long tangents reveal so much of what goes on off screen. The industry, the money, the ups and downs, it's the best part of these director commentaries.
I always thought you telling Bob the scene was over was cute and funny 😂
I never even noticed Bobs smile until you mentioned it Les🤣👀👀.......I've watched this episode at least 20xs....NEVER occured too me that Bobs a smiler🤔🤣🤣
I love how happy bob is
What a great episode! That was the first time I’ve seen Bob and he’s great too!
Hats off to those S & R folks.
Man, they were ON IT fast!
Thanks for being, generally, such a good teacher Sir Les of the Strouds. I appreciate your candidness about producing the show. My, my, one could learn so much from you. Your wish to inform us is powerfully evident just from the Survivorman Series but, you can't help to further inform us, in whatever you do.
The "hear the geese fly," was a lasting memory i used for years and to this day with buddies. It was one of my favorite moments in the entire series. I don't know if I'm crazy but is cracks me up to this day 😅
Your tangents are amazing sharing honest and candid feedback to the context of you, your adventures, and our wonderful opportunity to experience them. Cheers.
i love bushman bob and i love the dual survivorman , its nice to see les interact with somebody else and your back and forth with anyone can be hilarious
Dude Les!! Thanks so much for doing these director commentary!! I can’t get enough of your content. Thanks for being us joy Les god bless you and everything you do.
The tip about keeping the sun in one spot on your head to keep walking straight is not ideal if you want an even tan.
I visit the woods often, hunting is the main activity when im out there i constantly think about preparing and surviving even tho its a planned trip anything can happen thanks les for opening my mind to self preservation. Survivorman is the best!
You left the most burning question from this episode unanswered! Did you two still get to enjoy the grouse Bob shot after being rescued?
Your "tangent" did not bore me at all, I enjoy hearing about the business side of things you went through, the hidden struggle of Les if you will. Your passion kept you going through the tough times and your honesty forged your success.
One of the best, and even about one of my favorites. Thank you Les!
Its really cool to come back and watch these episodes with the commentary along side of it! It really adds more depth into the whole experience and it gives another sort of perspective on what it takes to film a survival ordeal. Best way to rewatch the series for sure!
Now i need a compilation of Bob's smiles
Les, I love learning all these things, thank you for sharing your memories and experiences, it's honestly very inspiring
I’ve gotta stop missing these live premieres! Always fun to have Les in chat. Thanks for continuing to put content out!
The one thing I hate about binging Survivorman is that then the algo thinks I want to watch all the other "survival" shows too and they just swamp my feed for a while, lol.
Survivorman, along with Mythbusters, are some of my favorite TV memories.
I’ve been in that wild . It’s hard to not smile in that wild !!! It’s beautiful and fun! Especially when your there with family/ best friend !!
Wow, Les has a Browning Auto-5, good taste!
Great sponsorship Les. I don’t remember the last time I watched an ad, I’m going to tell my wife about Deliver Contacts!
Nice another directors commentary in the bag!! Thanks Les. Really enjoy these. I didn't think you were mean to Bushman Bob. I felt you were like a firm tutor. Bedsides everyone knows good friends rib each other.
Always glad to see new videos! Keep up the excellent work Les... always inspiring!
Don't smile it ruins the mood...now watch me do a harmonica solo lol
Love that after all these years the legend is still putting out content
You're the GOAT les. All the other fake survival jump off cliffs guys and naked freaks are a joke compared to what you did. Your film making talent and your survival knowledge is unmatched. And to top it all off you are as humble as they come. You'd never call yourself the greatest expert and that is super respectable.
Temagami is the absolute best when it comes to untouched wilderness. Can't wait to see this.
Hey Les I think a lot of us are here for the tangents. I actually found that bit about the atv interesting.
Those side stories are definitely what makes these commentaries special.
Love all your commentaries Les! Hearing the production and videography that has to be done and the challenges while doing tolling work on real survival shows how much more work you had to put in. Bob is great he has such good energy. Those CZcams shorts with him are hilarious he is such a comedian. I've been itching to get out in the wilderness again especially this fall in Oregon, the wild harvest is real and I love coming home with rare ingredients you can't get in the grocery store or restaurants. I have a chef friend that is surprised the kinds of fish we bring back that they can't get their hands on in the kitchen and are highly sought after. Hopefully when it gets more wet the mushroom season will be bountiful this year. Last year we got several top grade Matsutake deeeeeep in the bush and it can get scary when you are looking down too long and look up and everything looks the same. I always keep every little thing I've learned from you mindful when I step out to make sure we can avoid a bad situation so I don't have to apply unneeded survival techniques. Can't wait for the next director's commentary. Honestly one of the only CZcams content I crave.
Feel like I’m watching this with Wes, awesome video!
So funny about cutting out Bob’s smile because a smile is one of the greatest survival tools! Or a positive attitude in general. 😁
simply the best..
I like it when he does these commentaries at night. Kind of adds to the atmosphere.
Les never apologize for telling us the whole story. Absolutely love hearing all the behind the scenes information about whats going on. Makes us or at least me, feel like I'm more involved with the story. Have always watched you over the years through Surviorman and all of the youtube videos you put out. Much love and best wishes.
So happy to see more wild harvest
I like these old shows with your commentary.
I've been lost in the bush.
I went pig shooting once with a couple of older blokes. They pointed me in one direction to go, while they travelled together in the opposite. Firing off three shots when lost, the other two just thought I'd gotten onto some pigs. We were in deep rain-forest in the tropics and I couldn't determine how to turn back west, the light wasn't getting through the canopy, so I couldn’t determine the direction. At the time, I thought a stick in the ground would give me a hint or the sun in the east, but no. I bought a compass afterwards, I bought a lot of things afterwards.
After 3 times of trying to head west, and ending up at the same rotted out tree, I gave up. It was as if something didn't want me going that way, like a wall. I had no problem going east, though. No tech back then to follow my path back. No garmins or mobile/cell phones, not that there would have been any signal to use one, this was remote. So, I went east, after finding the creek and then crossing 3 or more croc-slides and hearing the baby crocs in the creek, I decided to head north. I had numerous run-ins with them fishing, not fun. I knew there was a road that way. So glad I’d looked at a very basic map before going. I ran out of water and had to drink muddy water out of a muddy hole the cattle where drinking from. I'm glad it didn't make me sick.
There was a big search party out to try to find me. The aboriginal trackers couldn't find a trace of me... also odd. Best trackers in the world.
I made it out to the road and got a lift into town, from a passing ute (truck?) full of other aboriginals... their reserve and town was at the other end of that road. I had a lot of native mates.
I lived and a big fresh seafood party for everyone that had looked for me when all the lookers made it back to town that evening. A hell of a day. It took me hours to escape the rain-forest and cross that cattle paddock. I'm just glad I didn't step on a taipan, they were a common sight to see. Another story though. I had some close calls on a prospecting trip.
There's something repellent about that tv and movie business. Your show, The Last Alaskans, and Alone, seemed the most real, though the editing on the last sucks somewhat, or so I’ve heard from those with YT channels.
That was good publicity for the cops up there. They did a wonderful job.
When I was in the rain-forest, it would have never been possible for me to be found by air, not in the remote place I was, if they’d have even bothered, at that time in the early 80s.
I’d become a lot more conscious, after that adventure, as I called it at the time, of safety and carrying essential tools for survival.
Kindest regards.
Les please don't ever apologize for saying too much or getting on tangets... We absolutely love to hear you talk and hear your stories!!!!
Awesome videos buddy! Thank you

Les, is the man with all these uploads 👍
These directors commentaries are such a treat.
I’d be just a little bummed getting found right then right as I was looking forward to that grouse 😂

Love you Les! ❤️
Always enjoy watching your videos and listening to commentaries.. be awesome to meet u. And learn from u first hand. Keep up the good work . God bless
I agree, use musicians that you know or will allow you to use their music but so often the people who produce the music are not recognised in the credits
Bushman Bob reminds me of Bobby Hill; I love it.
Love it please continue
Good to see you're well, Les.
so glad you brought up using non pattent music being a music producer it's amazing to hear someone else saying that
I really enjoy these
I was so happy to see you get a Grouse! I’m disappointed, though, that you didn’t get a better look at it with the camera. They are so beautiful. I was also surprised that you didn’t point out the fact that it was a Spruce Grouse, and not a Ruffed Grouse. For anyone reading this that doesn’t know, it is called a “Ruffed Grouse” and not a “Ruffled Grouse”. They are also known as the “King of Gamebirds” by many hunters and publications. They are awesome! Great episode!
In the spring, here in Pennsylvania, the fiddleheads, morels and wild ramps are all available just about the time that trout season starts. I learned from my grandpa at 6 yrs old. We'd take just enough native brookies for us and my grandma, and she would have venison steak thawed, and she'd make venison steak with morels, fried trout, fried potatoes with wild ramps and steamed fiddleheads with homemade butter and, sometimes a few wild ramps, but not enough to overpower the delicate fiddleheads. A meal fit for a king, and I did the same thing with my son, and, I'm expecting my first grandchild, a grandson, in late winter. That cycle will be repeated in 5 or 6 years!!
Les I have learned so much from you. My son and I come up for annual 2 week canoe trips to Temagami love it there…. Also I’m a long time fan and recently discovered your Bigfoot episodes and these episodes where you explain the episode so great
i like the directors coments , like the way you explain everything as it happens
It's funny cuz I loved the scene with Bob under the tarp about ending the scene. I still laugh at it
