Let’s not forget she also wrote what is likely the only song with the word rapacity in it. Pau’s English vocabulary is better than probably 95% of Americans her age.
I admit to looking up rapacity when "Money" came out. There are at least 3 or 4 words to learn each time The Warning drops an album. (Also, they used "debase" in "Psychotic" on Queen of the Murder Scene - so it's a recurring theme.) .
You know, in Mexico we use that word very often. Turns out it exists in English and you write it exactly the same. But that’s why they say is way harder to compose in Spanish, because the words are longer, we have a word for everything and most of the time synonyms don’t help to make it easier. I learned English at school as well, I use everyday at my work and I found it way easier to express articulated ideas. But, I do think that Spanish works better for love or romantic songs, there’s where it shines the most.
These are the 3 most engaging, down to earth and intelligent women I’ve the pleasure in listening. Their interviews are always interesting, entertaining and revealing. Every each one of them are captivating in their own right. And of course Pau is an awesome and articulate communicator. ❤
As an American fan, there are PLENTY of other word choices that are "non-obvious" to Americans in The Warning's discography. It's just one more thing to love about them. They do not need and will not ask for anyone's permission to use the English language as they see fit. Just like they won't take crap from people in Mexico that are annoyed they use English instead of Spanish. That right there... is rock and roll spirit at its finest!
Yo Soy mexicano y me agrada que canten en inglés y lo que me molesta es que canten narcisista y martirio en países de habla inglesa.que lo dejen para México y sudamérica, y ellas al cantar en inglés es lo que les está dando fama mundial 🇲🇽✌️y yo paso a paso voy aprendiendo el idioma inglés que es idioma universal.
I’m English and I know what it is, so I thought, where are the Pixies from……. USA. She’s right, it’s a him problem. If he’s a journalist, he needs to hit the dictionaries a bit harder. Actually thinking on it, I’m a pretty low marker for English, in that I’m dyslexic, and had to take English Language O Level twice and still only scraped a C.
Ellas leen bastante, tanto en ingles como en español por eso su vocabulario es mas amplió, hay algunos libros que ellas han recomendado y estan muy buenos. De ahi salio su inspiración pra QOTMS de una saga de libros llamada corona de cristal si mal de recuerdo.
Vocabulary reflects intelligence. Bilingual vocabulary, welll... Pau btw, Pau in modern Hawaiian means "done, finished..." so best not mess with señorita Pau!😊
First of all, u ladies look fantastic. You ladies are getting better and better in these interviews, except for Pau, she has the gift of public speaking. Awesome job ladies. ❤❤❤
I am a first generation Mexican-American and I have to admit I had to look up debase and rapacity. For English being their second language, they have an excellent vocabulary.😅
She put rapacity in a song. A word I had to look up and I've spoken English my entire life and it's my only language. I'll also add that my autocorrect didn't even recognize it.
Pau is an intellectual beauty. I love the way she looks up & at absolutely NOTHING… to express herself further. To give her meaning extra emphasis. Lot's of young people do… but Pau's version is the most adorable on the planet at this time. That might change but i highly doubt it.
You young ladies are a breath of fresh air. Yet, I agree. It is a "you problem" for a lot of kids these days! (You qualify, ladies.) You speak English better than most university students today.
Debase: A stringed instrument used in the percussion section of music. Players include Alejandro of The Warning, Clif Burton of Metallica or Flea of the Red hot Chilli peppers
Really, REALLY enjoy listening to these young ladies. They first popped up on my CZcams about a month ago. Very to hear them keeping the metal rock genre alive! Regarding the word “debase”; the definition may have actually got lost in the pronunciation. Many Americans pronounce the word “dee-based”; however, Pau’s pronunciation “dah-based” is actually closer to accurate. Americans tend to use this word more frequently when talking about money or valuable objects as opposed to people; i.e. “…the U.S. dollar has become a debased currency as a result of inflation.” Keep it up ladies. Americans are learning from you! “And may the odds be ever in your favor!”
It's usually the non-native speakers that have the more complex vocabulary in their songs. Avantasia for example, Tobias Sammet's compositions are often incomprehensible because of some words he uses
It was a bit jarring to me because I hadn't seen the word used without saying what was being debased. I understood it to mean the person was undervaluing everything, but I hadn't heard it used like that before.
"Will you rip off your face or just further *debase* The things you couldn't do?"- from P.S.Y.C.H.O.T.I.C. Pau was probably thinking "Not only do I know it's a word, it's a word I've used in a song before"
"Keep Me Fed" by The Warning is a sonic powerhouse that will leave you breathless and begging for more! This Mexican rock trio's latest offering is a masterclass in musical prowess, with each note and beat expertly crafted to elevate the listener. The Warning's refusal to debase their art to conform to industry standards is a testament to their unwavering dedication to their craft. Instead, they push boundaries and defy expectations, delivering a sound that's both unapologetic and unforgettable. "Keep Me Fed" is a triumphant anthem that showcases the band's incredible range and talent. With its driving rhythms, face-melting guitar riffs, and raw, emotional vocals, this song is an instant classic. The Warning is a force to be reckoned with, and "Keep Me Fed" is the perfect proof of their impressive prowess!
Imagine flooring a native English speaker like that with knowledge of their own language. As someone from the UK who witnesses so much flat refusal to even try to learn a second language, without even developing a firm enough grasp of their first, it's impossible not to be impressed by the band's incredible command of English, both in their songs and how well they come across in interview.
Something similar happens with people who speak Spanish, we don't know even half of the vocabulary and we have to carry a dictionary everywhere, so English-speaking friends, don't feel bad if a foreigner knows a word that you have never heard that we the same thing happens to us.
I’m glad the band fought against dumbing down their lyrics. I love the song S!CK, but the fact that it was born of Anton’s constant use of it as a ‘bro’-ish adjective makes me feel a certain way 🤷♂️ I mean, the band used “rapacity” in their highest charting single off their last album ERROR. We need intelligent discourse in the world, music or otherwise.
I think that nobody should feel offended by what she is saying, because she is right, the words are in the books, what happens is that many people do not read, I know few people who speak very well, they use words that for me are "extravagent" because it is not something that a person uses daily, I am totally surprised by the words they use and I scold myself, because I know that I must read more in order to educate myself and learn to use new and important words.
😮the result of dumbing down of American youths glaring here. How could these young men not know a simple word. Home school. It's better. The ladies did.
Una persona no puede ser una película y la palabra correcta sería "melindrosa" , pero tienes razon la mayoria de los hablantes del español desconocen la palabra.
Let’s not forget she also wrote what is likely the only song with the word rapacity in it. Pau’s English vocabulary is better than probably 95% of Americans her age.

What about "Unmendable" ?
Nah, her vocab is better than 95% of Americans of any age.
I've never seen the word "Psychosomatic" used in a song either.
Yea......what does that mean anyways?
"That's a you problem." Pau friggin' kills me. LMAO
She's awesome.😂
Pau: it’s in books.
Most people: it’s in what?
😂
LOL you're not wrong 😂
This day in age you gotta tell them it's in Google search and they'll get it right away
😂😂
Americans out here debasing the English language. Glad we have DPA to keep the language alive! "It's in books."
Pau: It's in books, it's a word.
Debase....Alejandra plays "debase" on the up and coming band The Warning.
🤣
Oh that was clever!! 😅😅😅
So if one day Ale is asked to sing the song she's gonna say "help me now cause I' ve only the bass"? 🤔
LOL. Good one.
😆
These fine women are not only fantastic musicians, but are also incredibly intelligent people! Kudos to them!
"That's a You problem," love that retort, need to add to my ready response lexicon.
The old version of "Skill issue"
I've.always liked that Pau put the word "palpable" in Disciple.
You know, in Mexico we use that word very often. Turns out it exists in English and you write it exactly the same. Pau is fabulous across so many levels ❤
I’ve known this word for over 30 years.
I love “that’s a you problem.”
Proud to be an American that already knew that word. Pau is my dream woman, for so many reasons. Fierce little genius. ❤
even The Pixies had a song called "Debaser"
I’m English and I know what it is, so I thought, where are the Pixies from……. USA. She’s right, it’s a him problem. If he’s a journalist, he needs to hit the dictionaries a bit harder. Pau slayin and being adorable as ever!! ❤ oh my gosh I just can’t
She reads, this lady know vocabulary
“I’m from Mexico and I know what it means” bestie that’s literal facts that Native English speakers don’t know English as well as foreigners
Anyone who doubts that, a prime example is Tuomas Holopainen from Nightwish. Native Finn, he's an extraordinary lyricist (poet) in English.
Debase is what Ale plays!
Pau really hit him with the "skill issue"
First of all, u ladies look fantastic. You ladies are getting better and better in these interviews, except for Pau, she has the gift of public speaking. Awesome job ladies. ❤❤❤
Pau is such a dream
The fact those guys didn't know what debase means is quite telling.
I am a first generation Mexican-American and I have to admit I had to look up debase and rapacity. For English being their second language, they have an excellent vocabulary.😅
To be fair to those who don't know this word, these girls do have the advantage of being really intelligent and intellectually curious
Its in books. 😂😂😂😂😂
This got me all the time 😂
Daniela enjoy every litlle moment.smile a lot.
Pau the rebel.
She so sassy
It's not really a normal word. It's used mainly by people who work with economics/finance. And as I understand it, Paulina is into economics.
I’m blaming Sesame Street for not teaching us ‘Debase’ 😂
A Sesame Street episode about the word Debase would be the most depressing episode in their history.

Damn lovely girl, Pau! What a creative, genial, wonderful girl she is!!!
She's speaking to Americans, in her second language and she's having to explain English. And does it perfectly... Love her...
It's in books 😅
I still can't figure out how Pau can be so adorable but at the same time being a hardcore like this. "Open the pit!" Lol.
Beautiful, talented, and intelligent. 😍😍😍

First thing that came to mind lol
This is some taylor swift weird words level shit😂😂😂
The more we learn about how these songs were written the more it seems like DPA had the greater role in writing them..
... Obviously. Why was that ever a question?
You can see in Paulina eyes in the beginning of the video the frustration or lack of knowledge over a word !!!!
Debase is a normal word. Good for Pau sticking to her guns, I think it is clever the way she used it in the lyrics.

Pau is an absolute star. Love her.
You also hear it in news stories about a country "debasing" its currency.
Good on her for sticking to her guns. I like their word choices.
Text book English to Americans is what text book Spanish to Mexicans, while it's not wrong, but not many say it like that anymore 😂
Imagine flooring a native English speaker like that with knowledge of their own language.
