THE most talented guitarist in the world!
Imagine being so good that you can play quite literally whatever you want in multiple stylings. This dude has achieved 100% musical freedom, his ambitions are not limited by his abilities.
"...his ambitions are not limited by his abilities." You've nailed it!
Danny Gill man I got to go to an impromptu masterclass of his when he had a long layover in the US. You nailed it totally...he demonstrated playing a Beatle song doing nothing but sweep picking it, Django stye, Eric Johnson style, srv style, Chet Atkins style, sweeping harmonic arpeggios, etc. He performed each style perfectly on request by people in the class over the same song. He played each style like a total master of that genre. I knew he was great but didn’t realize how great until that masterclass.
@@jblah1 To another respecter of artists, I myself struggle to get twinkle twinkle little star out and very lengthy pauses, While I ponder which is the next one..... It's quite horrible and I am 72, partially crippled. I fell head over heels in love with his music that till then I reserved this respect for the one and only Roy Clark. Tommy's mentor was Chet Atkins and I was watching him play, he had just made a obvious mistake and he nearly never overcome it in his song rendition, I was so surprised that I only remember watch him struggle but not the song. And so why I responded to you by remembering what Tommy said. They (the band) ask him which key he was going to play the song he brought up... his answer was "All of them" and that as well is all I remember but he quite literally did and after a bit they stopped playing along just to listen themselves
Morgan Adair oh yeah Roy Clark...that’s another one that I didn’t grasp how great they were. I grew up listening to Roy and took it for granted thinking his kind of talent was normal. It wasn’t until years later watching CZcams videos (after my musical ear had developed) that I realized how far he was from the rest of his era.
Danny, you have said it well. Imagine having absolutely no limitations when it came to playing the guitar... This man amazes me. And he'll take a brand new three thousand dollar guitar and scratch it all up just to get the sound he wants. Unbelievable. He has no equal, and he would be the last to ever say that. Such a talented and humble man.
A guitarist like this only comes around once in a life time, thanks Tommy for being in my life time.
:)
There’s never been a guitarist like Tommy. He would disagree but that just textbook humbleness
The World's best Acoustic Guitarist.
mister one-man-band ❤️
The Best acoustic guitarist ever...……….
Best GUITARIST ever.
You done killed Heartbreak Hotel, Tommy. WOW! It ain't NEVER coming back.
This is probably one of if not the most talented guitarist ever.
Most, I say.
batouki dre TE is no doubt the most talented acoustic guitar player in the world. Someone such as Billy Strings is capable of reaching that title though.
Probably? One of?
No probably about it.
I wouldn’t like to separate Tommy and Danny Gatton and TE is the greatest guitarist I’ve heard in the flesh. Absolutely the equal of anyone he plays alongside and if I’m picky, TE having the edge over Gatton on acoustic with the latter the most prodigious technician on electric. Musically? Both sublime.
I had the pleasure of meeting Tommy several times on the scene back in the day and even jammed with him once. He played drums and I was on bass. He has a great feel... and what a lovely, humble guy he is too. Check out his performances with his brother Phil (also awesome) where they both play the same guitar. Amazin'!
......and NOW you know how the "Finish" got removed from Tommy's guitar. The HEAT is intense!! Don't you love it......perfection in action!!
He also removes the finish on purpose when he first gets them so he can make drum/brush noises on the top
Treasure this video guys 'cause this is the master at work.
So privileged to have seen you live at North Gong Pub all those years ago.
Still got the poster
Haven't changed . As great as ever.
Thanks for being one of the highlights of a great era of pub rock
Tommy is the KING!
I sooooo want to see this guy live. It’s on the bucket list for sure.
Me and my wife have seen him live, it truly is something to remember! : )
Seen him twice... definitely worth it!
That provocative version would have spun heads around in the day. Dang this version makes me want to groove. Nice.
There are other brilliant musical prodigies, but is there any other performer that has such a wide range of styles and abilities, a humble desire to perform, whose virtuosity astounds in everything he does, including singing, drumming, ukulele playing, and still be unpretentious?
the late Danny Gatton. But, he'd be the only one that comes to mind
@@mikehendry34 the humbler!
Larry Guevara - Tommy would disagree with you calling him a prodigy- he says he practices 10-12 hours a day
@@alirenfro2526 now you run into an interesting philosophical and genetics based question. Is it not prodigious to have the discipline and love of music *to be able to* practice 10-12 hrs a day?
@@christianjensen7699 I forgot to mention that Tommy is hard working and dedicated, and he can still have exceptional abilities together with long hours of practice.
Best version of heartbreak hotel I’ve ever heard
This man is 'Chet Atkins worthy". There are less than a handful of guitarists who ever lived that this could be said about.
Chet himself named Tommy a "Certified Guitar Player," one of only three in the world. I've been following Tommy for over 20 years now, and will gladly drive a couple hundred miles to see him play. But I have to say, he's too fundamentally happy to sing the blues.
He is a certified Chet Atkins guitar player which there are only a few in the world..... :)
You are great.
No matter what
Wow Tommy, that was the best cover I ever heard of this song...fantastic! :-)
Absolutely wonderful!!!! And NOW a video-version where we can see left hand continually..... Please please.
Sir Tommy Emmanuel love and respect from India..
He’s smiling and playing while I’d be so concerned I’m going to not hit all those beautiful notes he’s making. Nice job dude!
Just one word, if I may? WOOOOOOOOOOOOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
You should be able to hit the like button as many times as you want!
lmao
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! I love playing the guitar it is my passion and when I see Tommy play I get tears in my eyes. Such beautiful tones coming from his guitar 🎸
Thanks for uploading this stunning performance, its a generous of you Sir Tommy, keep healthy and long life to keep share your energy and enthusiasm
You tore it up, Tom! i love it when you throw care to the wind and just rock out like you used to do. All the country stuff is super great and all, but now and then a little of the ol' TE just spankin' the wailin' palin' is good for the soul. Thanks for the pleasure you bring to us all through your special gifts and unique generosity. I really, really enjoyed that!
Cheers, Chris Shannon (Australia)
His speed is phenomenal. Seen him live several times.
I can’t imagine how many guitars have met their useful end via the hands of Tommy Emmanuel. Played to death by a master!
An awsome show like this... and the crowd is sitting tight and politely clapping hands, eventually. I first thought this gig was recorded i Finland...our slient way of appreciation 😂
Is used to watch this video and feel the emotion. I had no idea what he was playing but it just felt different. I now have the abililites to learn this song and will do it today.
I could talk about this man for weeks. There was a time I didn't enjoy listening to him. Maybe a thread of jealousy... I don't know. I'm 65 years old and have played with and around the guitar since I was 16. I know all the greats... I can name them. But this man absolutely has no limitations when it comes to the guitar. It's a tool in his hands to do with as he wishes. I've watched countless hours of him playing and doing teaching videos. He is an incredibly generous and humble man. Tommy Emmanuel... you sir are the most incredible guitar player I have ever known. Chet was right, you are definitely deserving of the CGP award. There are really no words to express my appreciation of you. God bless you sir. Denny Rich
👏👏👏👏❤️🇬🇧love this !!! hope every thing is ok back at home Tommy!!! Our thought and prayers are with all the people in Australia and the wildlife 🙏🏻🙏🏻✝️😞 from a winging pom😉
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh Yeahhhh! Many, many years ago John Lennon said the great classical guitar virtuoso Andres Segovia was 'the daddy of us all.' The problem with that was Segovia was a classical music snob and retorted; "In that case, I'm sorry but I don't remember the mother!" (PS I play classical too but also the blues) These days we don't have that problem. Our daddy is Tommy Emmanuel and he can play anything! You rock daddy!
Mr. Thomas: you are the king. Thank you! Thanks for your support for us folks that had some challenges with our brain cells. Again, you are the best!
Love that "wild" low E-string :-)
First time I've heard TE's version of that song; a tour de force for sure! Amazing playing, thank-you very much :-).
Tommy doesn't just play something , he turns it into a documentary of how it should be played , lol , so anyone who plays it from now on may as well not bother , because people would say , ohh i saw Tommy Emmanuel play this etc etc , also who ever hit the dislike button are either tone deaf or jealous . Also good to hear him sing for a change .
How can anyone thumbs down this?
Love it when Tommy shows it off. He takes things somewhere else.
Great guitarist
Tommy can do with just a guitar what it takes others a complete pedal board and they still can't duplicate this. UNBELIEVABLE
Both Tommy & this Maton singing there!
Tommy is not human!!! He’s from another planet
Oh man I hope he plays that in Duluth, Minnesota, USA when I'm there. I love it when he sings too.
MAESTROOOO !!!!
Meraviglioso, Elvis ,Scotty, Bill and D.J are proud of you, Maestro Emmanuel! Happy 2020 from Italy
THANCK U TOMMY,,,ALWAYS,,,,,,,,,,,,HUGS,,,,,,,,,,,
Tommy, you ALWAYS blow me away, but THIS! THIS changed my world! WHEW!! Thanks!
Tommy, That made my day.
You did it Again - BRAVO BROTHER!!!!!!!!!!
Now that’s rocknroll love it Tommy !!!!
The great ones never look like they're working at it.
Omg, that was mesmerizing Tommy!
How could anybody outdo that cat. Love it when he shows off. Like, yeah, but can you do this? Or this? How about this?
Oh Master! 🙏
tommy is the goat!
One man One guitar. No effects......
Awesome ... just incredible combination of skill and charisma - unique!
Tommy emmanuel
All in one. He can sing, play and dance. What a legendary guy.
and is a fantastic drummer and ukulele player
Say whaaaaaaaat! titillating Tommy !!!! yes indeedy
Dang, but he makes it look so easy!
Thank you!!! Greetings from Russia!
If someone have sold his soul to the Devil, it most have been this man ! No human can play like this !
Awesome!
A real great version of Heartbreak Hotel ! Congratulation for an extraordinary and gorgeous performance!
His skills on the six string are endless. Such an awesome and skilled entertainer.
🎼🎸💝 Great Tommy, thank you!
Dude rocks out amazing opening.
Crowd stays dead silent.
Did they all die from getting their heads blown off by the previous songs he played ?
And this is in Australia, too ... home. I'd have expected some rowdiness from an Aussie crowd, I'm so disappointed 😒
Great to see you singing, Mr Emmanuel!
What can one say? Its just Tommy , it's what he is and what he has been doing for a long time, Probably the best guitar player on the planet right now. Bear in mind that there is no backing group to enhance his playing, it's all Tommy. Lucky me I am going to see him again at Cork Opera House in a couple of weeks time.
If God asked me what I wanted more than anything it would be the ability to play as well as Tommy! I literally cried for a week when his brother Phile passed.
Whew...dude can pluck!!!
One of the worlds greatest guitar players, also he is an entertainer, he sings, writes, all in one package, rather unique I would say.
No-one can touch Tommy ...... he can also shred with the best of them on electric ...... very few electric players can play acoustic like TE .........keep it up buddy, improvisational skills unsurpassed
damm this guitar got some serious tone
What a fantastic version--wow!!!
Tommy's in the house! Come and get some, served up real nice.
Excellent - excellent - excellent !!!!!!!!!! Greetings from Greece !!!
THE BEST GUITARIST IN THE WORLD!!!!
Pretty sure the people on here commenting are more excited by this than the wowsers sitting silently watching in the audience. What is wrong with those people!
Awesome.
I knew you could sing, and for an encore....awesome guitar picking. Its a yes from me. Thanks for posting Tommy.
You are the best
Best ever xx
Проффффиии!!!!! Cool!
Oh my my my my my. So beautiful.
Fenomeno
I have two things to say about this video: firstly, it's great to see Tommy singing, he does an excellent job here. And secondly, as a guitar player, and suspecting how much he plays and practices - how many hours has it taken to do that much damage to a guitar top?? There are none better.
He's said he takes a scew driver to the top and exposes the wood so he can make percussive effects (like brushes, etc.)
Well, that’s what he does! I have no words!
Much Respect Mr Tommy Emmanuel👊🏿👊🏾👍
Probably the BEST there IS . . . There are sixty-four jealous haters that have seen this video as I write this . . . .
Literally awesome!
Love your songs. I have a signed guitar from your brother that I got for my birthday a few years ago.
Wish you would have played this when we saw you last year in Greenville TN. Yout are THE most talented and dedicated living guitarist ! Wish I had the talent contained in one of you fingernails on your pinky. Love you Tommy !!!
The master at work.
Absolute Precision Baby !
Mr Emmanuel lived in East Anglia for a while. So we got to see him a few times in intimate venues. Lucky people or wot
