    Awesome design, Mackie. Really impressive how you're able to keep your naturel and flair even when having the restriction of having to incorporate another artist's work. I know a lot of creative people who completely freeze up in such a situation.
    Even in my own area of expertise (electronic circuit design), which I hardly consider to be creative expression, I don't like extending a circuit which was done differently than I would have from scratch.

      I know what you're saying, but often it is easier to work this way, as the idea is already there...all I need to do is roll with it :)

    So smart and so simple! I've been looing around for special tape, special paint, special anything to fix the creep, and transparent coating did the trick! Thanks man!

    Excellent job as usual Mackie, I guess paints today don’t react with the helmet leading to it being compromised as they did back in the day.

    • @MackieBass
      @MackieBass  Před 5 lety +1

      It's not th epaint, it's teh helmets. They use different materials these days than back 20 years ago.

    • @thefreedomguyuk
      @thefreedomguyuk Před 5 lety

      @@MackieBass Yes, back in the day, helmets were made from fibreglass. Sticking stickers on them, and god forbid, painting your helmet was a no-no, as solvents in glue/paint would dissolve the gelcoat.
      Modern helmets are made from plastic materials, so you can basically do whatever you like nowadays.

    Mackie, nothing to do with painting helmets, but what petrol resistant clearcoat do you use on petrol tanks? I've seen loads of reviews about so-called petrol resistant clearcoat failing and ruining the paint finishes.. Also an I get a good one in a rattle can? Any advice welcomed. Cheers mate.

      I use 2k. Clear and hardener. Not a fan of those in cans...had bad experience with these... But 2k works like a dream, and pretty much bulletproof!

    Nice job Mackie, what type of paint do you use for the base coat?

    • @MackieBass
      @MackieBass  Před 5 lety

      This was just acrylic paint, I often use stylarenz primers too. Depedning on the job.

  • @westers1514
    @westers1514 Před 5 lety

    Why didn't you do this on the Virago? That's got black paint bleed all over the place

    • @MackieBass
      @MackieBass  Před 5 lety +2

      Well...when you see the finished product you won't see any paint creep on the virago. The reason behind it is that I used solvent paint, which is much harder, and it would react with waterbased product. All.i needed to do I gently run scotch pad over the cured black paint and the paint creep disappeared like magic. Nothing left. It's much quicker this way, and I don't risk paint reaction without building up additional paint coats. It's all about speed and cost effectiveness. It works every time. :)
