well I didn't need a 20 minute video to tell me to stay away from a burning LPG tank, but here we are

Very impressed, shows you just how to deal with this situation, thank goodness I have never been involved in firefighting, if so I would need to have special training for this sort of job.

Viewing at the proper distance supposes good unobstructed view something we almost never have.

What you want to avoid being anywhere near (miles away) is a B.L.E.V.E.

I wonder why they did not finish that barn fire with impingement on a LG tank. With in a few minutes after arrival it BLEVEd. The IC never did the 360.so no one knew the tank was there. Two FFs that were between the pumper and the barn died instantly. Two others were behind the fire engine and when it blew the fire engine was blown on to its side and they were crushed to death!

Are Bleve fires part of firefighter training? They should be mandatory across all firefighting training levels.

Design a PRV to remain open after it activities. 450 degrees would be a good start.

Who is the fire chief in the video? He gives some very handy information as to what to do in case of a potential Bleve.

We are working with FEMA on the revision their E/L0102 Science of Disaster course. In this course, we would like to show this video for instructional and educational purposes only. Can we (FEMA) have permission to use and show your video below for educational purposes only?

The mere sound of a Bleve explosion in the area would literally sound like a massive crash of thunder.

  • @quaztron

It's obvious that a bigger relief valve would reduce the final BLEVE. A relief valve that stays open would reduce the BLEVE. A relief valve that opens in response to fire would reduce the BLEVE. A relief valve that sprays liquid (from the bottom) onto the top of the tank *might* reduce the BLEVE, but it might be bad for other situations and if the tank rolls.

if you are suspicious that a tank might bleve, get out of there fast.

My gear, while quite good, is 40+ years old, so for me, I will be at least 800 meters. No Kevlar, but it does have Nomex.

HighStreet Killers I’m a trucker driver and I’m hauling 60,000 litres of propane, unreal to think what the damage it would do if it BLEVE’D

If 40,000 litres of propane or more exploded, it would probably make the ground shake, I hope that a situation like that never happens here in Broken Hill or in the surrounding areas.

  • @jalenjose3905

Why not install a water valve connected to a tank of water or even foaming liquid to fill the empty tank when the release valve opens. See fire extinguisher make more money by fires than no fires. The more fires fd assist the more fund they get is time to stop death by fire.

Water doesn't compress. It would most likely create a larger explosion hazard.
Water turns into steam, steam in a confined tank could produce higher pressure causing an even larger explosion.

What is the safest place to be should a potential Bleve situation occur? Is it in a nearby building or from a vehicle parked at a safe distance from the blazing tank?
