    With regards to your supplies, considering felt pens are stored best upside down, it would be great if Tombow had a colour swatch on the very bottom of the felt, bigger than just a thin line. I’m not sure why this hasn’t already occurred to them…? Also your caran d’ache pastels that keep breaking on you? I bet you can find holders for them-I watched a video a few days ago where a girl had bought holders for her charcoal, so her hands didn’t get all black. Can’t think of a name for them, but I’m wondering if the sizes would match so they could be used for more than just charcoal.

    • @KatieMoody

Though I do find the colours on the pen don't always match up with the colour anyway so I was thinking of creating my own swatches for them and adding as labels! • @gertietheduck
    @gertietheduck Před 7 měsíci +2

    How do you fix your sketchbook drawings so they do not smudge on double spread panels? I have been looking for a mixed media fixative that won’t break the bank and won’t dissolve wax, stain watercolour and gouache, reactivate felt tip pens or melt water-soluble crayons. Nightmare

    • @KatieMoody
      @KatieMoody  Před 7 měsíci +2

      I don't fix my sketchbook drawings unless I'm using oil pastels, then I use the Pastel Fixative spray from Jacksons! I just put scraps of paper in between my sketchbook pages so when I'm working on the other side and it smudges the previous page it just dirties the paper rather than the art. It's the best way I've found to minimise it!

    • @gertietheduck
      @gertietheduck Před 7 měsíci +1

      @@KatieMoody ah, maybe I am more heavy-handed in my use of smudgy materials than you are - I find my Neocolors tend to smudge on the opposite page and unfortunately I tend to mix Neo I and II so cannot use spray fixatives (my fave on plain Neocolor I is Spectrafix) that would work on the non-soluble wax pastels as they stain or reactivate the Neo II.
      This is even after I have already gone long past the next page - even if I just leave my sketchbook shut without touching it the Neocolor will stain the other page on contact, so I have resigned myself to just make quick ink brush studies on the opposite page rather than spreads.
      I still use mixed Neos a lot on my sketchbook as I adore them and they are much less smudgy than soft pastels, oil pastels or charcoal, but they do stain the opposite page. And so does gouache in my sketchbooks because it's so powdery and much thicker than watercolour. I wonder what I am doing wrong!
      I love your heron by the way!!Nice touch :)

    • @KatieMoody
      @KatieMoody  Před 7 měsíci +1

      @@gertietheduck Oh what a pain! I agree, the neocolors are definitely less smudgy than other pastels but not resistant! Are you using a Royal Talens sketchbook too, or another brand? I have found though that when I've tested before and sprayed my neocolors with fixative, it didn't cause them to re-activate. Lots of light layers rather than one heavy thick one is recommended so perhaps something to try?

    • @gertietheduck
      @gertietheduck Před 7 měsíci +1
