  • In this video we show you the steps to install a windshield seal. This method will work on most cars and truck from the 30's to the late 70's . We demonstrate this on the curved front window of a 1956 Ford pickup, one of the more difficult models.

    Great video. I used this rope method on my Jeep J20 and it worked a treat. Just a point on the J20 or Wagoner because of eyebrow on the top of the cab when you place the bottom of windshield into place the top of the glass and gasket will rest on the eyebrow. However as the gasket is seated from the bottom and sides the top of windshield come below the eyebrow and seat in he correct place.

      you are meant to use sealer after you finish installing by heating a non hardening sealer in the sink for 30 minutes prior and peeling the outside lip back and adding sealer then you push the lip back down and clean the sealer that squishes out, job done, bit of a shame they dont mention or show this

    Are "aftermarket" window seals risky as opposed to OEM, even if installed correctly? I`m thinking of "de-chroming" the seals on my '85 Landcruiser because the chrome trim is virtually impossible to find. There are aftermarket seals without the trim channel, made just for this purpose. Thanks!

    Can you describe where the bedding and glazing compound was used? My windshield is installed and getting some water in around the glass in the lower corners.

    • @denniscarpenter
      @denniscarpenter  Před 4 lety +1

      the glazing compound can be used under the gasket where it meets the pinch weld of the opening . If you are getting Leaks pull back on the gasket and apply a bead underneath and work it into any voids the gasket cannot seal.

      @@hotrodray6802 My question was from a year ago when I had gasket on glass only, no glazing compound. I have since put in the glazing compound and fixed the leaks. It is a slow cure caulking of sorts. I pulled the edge of the gasket back slightly with a plastic tool and squirted some compound in as I advanced around the perimeter of the glass.

    What about the bedding glazing compound??

    • @denniscarpenter
      @denniscarpenter  Před 4 lety +7

      The bedding glazing compound is optional and can be used between the gasket and the pinch weld. Some customers apply it to the gasket before installation. We prefer to pull l up the gasket lip and apply with the caulking gun.Thank you for your comments.

      @EcoGreensFarm Před 3 lety +4

      Better method is to lay a bead of urethane (3M 540, or Sikaflex 221) around the pinch weld, and let it set up for 15-20 minutes, then install the window as shown. The window will never leak this way. If you don't use sealant, your window will leak, and you will get a rusted pinch weld.

    • @barbecuebob1836
      @barbecuebob1836 Před 6 měsíci

      I am pretty sure urethane is a big no no on these. The windows bedding compound allows the window to flex and it needs to. If you use urethane you risk cracking the glass. This is why rope caulk or butyl is used. @@EcoGreensFarm
