He Harmonizes I always thought he got partly turned into chocolate especially since the mother says to stop eating his fingers and he replies he tastes so good
I like how the dad is literally held back by his own standards. He could’ve jumped the gate, but had to wait for the key, because that’s what he’s “supposed” to do and he’s a pushover.
That's what I was thinking even when I first watched this as a kid. I was like bro if you really wanted to save your daughter jump over the fence and go get her.
I’ve always loved this song. I love the fact it’s based on the psychedelic era of music, as each song is based on a different musical era. It’s so nostalgic to me, because I watched Charlie and the chocolate factory a lot when I was younger.
The whole factory was a trap since the beginning. Because Augustus, Violet, Veruca and Mike couldn't resist their own temptations. Only Charlie was the worthy one.
Yes and no, I believe that he had shown these rooms because he knew the greediness of the children and wanted to see if they could resist the urge to satisfy their neediness in order to run his factory and since no other kid could do so except Charlie, that's how he won
If you think about it, the 4 rotten children's fates follow old expressions: Augustus: "If you eat too much of something, you'll turn into it." He ate so much chocolate he fell in the river when he didn't listen to Wonka. After being sent up the pipe, the oompa loompas seemed to have turned him into chocolate. Violet: "Pride cometh before the fall." Violet and her mother were so arrogant that Wonka's warnings didn't faze them. Violet ended up being turned into a blueberry that made her tower above everyone, making her lonely at the top. Afterwards, they learned a huge lesson. Violet's mom learned that her daughter's well being is more important than winning all the time and Violet learned that winning isn't everything. Veruca: "Spoiled rotten." Everyone will agree that Veruca was badly spoiled. Once she got covered in trash, her outer appearance reflected her personality: disgusting. Her father learned that being a pushover was getting him nowhere and that his daughter needed to learn the importance of inner beauty. Mike: "You can educate a fool, but you cannot make him think." Mike might have been educated, but he didn't think about the repercussions of his actions. Therefore, when he sent himself through TV, he was taunted by the oompa loompas for being foolish. He was stretched out to try to correct his size, but his size after being sent to TV reflected how small minded he really was.
This scene really illustrates how great this movie’s set design is. The light blue and white floor contrasted with the ominous hole in the ground is awesome, and the weird-looking pipes and chutes just add to the magical feel of it all.
I love how Wonka was being an asshole pretending to be unable to find the key in order for the squirrels to be able to throw Veruca down the chute 😂😂😂😂

Don't know if this is better than "I want it now" (and there has to be a ton of appreciation for a child pulling off that scene, as a professional actress I doubt I could pull off that scene) but this is a very good take on it. One thing I remember most from the scene before this is Wonka actually smiles when Mr Salt initially refuses Veruca's wish for a squirrel, as if he's happy he won't have to teach another lesson, but then his face falls when Mr Salt eventually gives in to his daughter. It's very good.
I like the songs they play cause they represent the personalities of the children in them. Augustus Gloop's song is stompy and deep, representing his overweightness with heavy drums and trumpets. Violet Beauregarde's song is very jazzy with keyboards and sound very swaying and Oompa Loompas even dance in a victory dance with the hands pointing up and then pointing down. Veruca Salt's song is very relaxing and also swaying for its context, like you're in a luxurious garden and swaying in a hammock, living the life of luxury, signifying her status of being incredibly rich. There's even a use of Indian string instrument usually used when displaying scenes of royalty in Indian plays. Mike Teavee's song has a lot of rock and heavy guitar and drums, representing his violent tendencies and how you're supposed to bob your head up and down aggressively when hearing that kind of music. Exactly the kind of thing he would do.
This isn't a remake. This and the Gene Wilder movie are just different entities based on a popular book. It's just like Stephen King's IT for example, the Tim Curry serial and both movies are just different adaptions of the same novel.
Just goes to show how much of a wimp & a pushover he is. As a millionaire and a nut-tycoon he thinks that that money is the solution to everything & lets his daughter act unruly with no discipline. All he needs to do is hop the gate & rescue her (anyone really) but he hasn’t the spine to do it. It’s only after she falls into the chute, he gets “pushed over” by a squirrel after her, and they leave the factor embarrassed (covered in garbage) does he finally grow a spine.
@Jason Voorhees in this movie violets mother was also responsible for what her daughter became in fact more than Mr salt he tried to stop his daughter from doing what she did, while violets mom was encouraging her daughter to keep on chewing
I don't think they were calling her trash. I think they were implying that she is "spoiled" like the rotten food in the garbage shute so they will get along fine as "friends".
I can see why people think this movie is creepy and the fact that the songs are strange, but you just can't deny those golden voices of the umpa lumpas.
+Atrocity99 That's because Danny Elfman, the lead singer of Oingo Boingo, and the composer for most of Tim Burton's films, does the singing for the Oompa-Loompas.
I love the way they end this scene. It’s such a light end when they say “dad” and push the dad at the same time :) It fits perfectly into how they used the dads own weight to easily push him down (he was able to fall easily so the song was the same way)
I was watching this movie with my friend and he said "Ya know that Wonka guy kinda looks like Johnny Depp." So, instead of telling him, I said "Huh. Weird."
Why is nobody talking about the morbidly disturbing lyrics as this child risks being incinerated and they're tossing rotten food down directly after her, considering them her new friends.
Isn't it funny how the only person Wonka was truly responsible for their fate was Mr. Salt. He told Mr. Salt he could "just reach in and pull her out".....and then the squirrel shoves him in.
Wish they kept in a few things from the book's original song. A bacon rind, some rancid lard, A loaf of bread gone stale and hard, A steak that nobody could chew, An oyster from an oyster stew, Some liverwurst so old and gray One smelled it from a mile away, A rotten nut, a reeky pear, A thing the cat left on the stair, And lots of other things as well, Each with a rather horrid smell.
It's amazing what Roald Dahl could get away with publishing. In one of his novels, there was a species of supernatural humanoids that cursed/killed children in brutal ways because to to them they smelled like dog s$%t. They were planning on doing a mass school poisoning of sorts, turning them to mice.
I feel like this song is kind of like a musical message of Veruca Salt's behavior was caused by none other than her parents for either neglecting her or lacking punishment upon her. Like the lyrics said: "The guitly ones, now this is sad, are dear old mom and loving... dad!"
This must be planned. How else would they have a framed picture of her mother already there? Nope. It's because Wonka knew the squirrels would catch her eye.
well if you think about it,he kind of hated all of them from the start, they hated him too lol, so he was taking them to specific places its like he analyzed each on of them and took them into places he knew they'd loose and then pretended like he didnt know what was happening, pretty much like he know that mike would be rebellious in the TV room but he let it happen anyways or how he knew agustus would eat the chocolate so he took them there first, same thing the the blonde girl and the bubble gum, i guess he just saw charlie and was like welp hes the normal one so il let him win
@@andresnavarro5978 Why does a chocolate factory need a television room? Sure, Wonka invented a way to shrink chocolate bars but why can't he just have the factory make normal sized ones? The concept is very weak, I propose it's because Mike loves television and Wonka knew it.
@@felixlenhardt2862 if u wanna know more, when Mike teevee saids "candies are waste" to wonka, wonka endup getting more flashbacks about his own dad when he said no son of my eats candies, then Mike said that he wanna pick a room, wonka then look at him for a few seconds and then gave him a creepy smile which let them into a TV room, wonka planed to put Mike on inside the TV all along and he also planed to turn violet into a blueberry.
This is one of these songs that just stays buried deep inside your brain and then one day 10 years later someone hums it and suddenly you are singing the entire thing
funny story actually: i first watched this movie like 5 years ago and i’ve literally had this melody inside my head since then and i just thought i made it up but just recently i watched this movie and i figured out what the full song was and now i can’t stop singing it
The song actually kinda goes hard I can’t lie. It’s so catchy. The Gene Wilder version is a classic, but this version of the story is just better, I’m sorry. The set design too is just incredible, a great script, loyal to the source material and a staple of my childhood. Revisiting it once in a while is always a pleasure even though you might know it off by heart. ❤️
Anyone else like the 60's style sound? Also i like how these lyrics are almost word for word from the poems in the book but have been turned into songs.
Love how Willy Wonka quickly goes from being an eccentric and awkward guy straight to a maniac psychopath. Willy Wonka in the beginning of the excursion: /is afraid of his own guests, genuinely tries to be friendly and doesn't understand why things he says make them uncomfortable/ Willy Wonka halfway through the excursion: /makes THAT 1:25 face waiting for that guy to join his daughter in the incinerator/ Dude met human beings for the first time in 20 years and he is not impressed.
Veruca's new-found friends being a fish head, an oyster, an old steak, and other things with a horrid smell? Perfect fit since those friends are just as spoiled as Veruca.
When Wonka finally opened the gate, did you see the evil glare he gives Mr. Salt as he is walking through the gate? If that isn't another ingredient to the premeditated pie, then I don't know what is.
Unpopular opinion: Veruca was the least sinister child of the four guilty ones. She's an absolute brat to her dad solely because he raised her with the inability to say no, but she literally only picks on him. She seemed concerned for Violet when she asked Wonka: "Will Violet always be a blueberry?" And told her mother about the County Fair idea. Veruca seems the evilest by portrayal, but she's actually a decent person to anyone other than her dad.
Yes I agree Veruca's problem is one of nurture, not nature, no one is born a spoiled brat, they are made that way. Plus something you often find with "spoiled rich kids" is that they actually have very sheltered and lonely childhoods. Their parents buy them gifts to make up for the fact that they're never actually there for them. For Veruca, asking her dad for a new pony or whatever is probably the only way to get his attention, since he's always working. She probably has never had a real friend in her life either. Everyone either sees her as a piggy bank or as an entitled rich girl. I honestly feel more bad for her than anything.
@@tommyl.dayandtherunaways820 Me too! Not to mention she was so polite to Willy Wonka when she first met him! And he immediately says her name sounds like a wart in his opinion! She's such a wonderful person to everyone other than her dad, but doesn't get any respect from anyone else! I'm just glad she was already rich, so she didn't need the factory. And now she and Augustus can take a shower and everything is normal again. She didn't get scarred like the last two.
@@Imlizzmitchell This might sound like an odd headcanon, but I think if she resisted her temptation here, she and Charlie would've tied. She doesn't have an obsession like the other three, we only just heard that she has any pets at all in this scene. (Other than the pony she mentioned before.) But like Tommy said, she loves pets because she actually can spend time with them while her family works all the time. So it's understandable why she'd want a trained squirrel in this scene. Back to what I originally said though, I don't think she would've beaten Charlie, but since she lacks a strong obsession like the others, she likely would've tied. I feel like at that point she would've actually let Charlie have the factory since she's already really rich and doesn't need it. Knowing that the factory would take her away from her father would make her realize she won't get everything she wants anymore, and a factory isn't worth it over everything she already has at home.
@@lordkinesis4432 oh I thought that to. They'd probably co run the factory as adults. I also think that these tests weren't for the kids necessarily but more so their parents to show them the direct consequences of their actions

I love how you explain it.

This isn't a remake. This and the Gene Wilder movie are just different entities based on a popular book.
It's just like Stephen King's IT for example, the Tim Curry serial and both movies are just different adaptions of the same novel.
@@RandomGuy-qh7tl Oh. It's still overhated, though.
@@highfivers5062 Fair enough. I still prefer the Gene Wilder movie. Both have their pros and cons, though.
I love how the gate is short enough to climb over but mr salt still just waits for willy wonka to find the key
3:37
And, magically, WW found just the key to unlock the gate when previously he couldn’t seem to put his hands on it. 😂
In reality as a successful businessman it seems rather unnatural to wait patiently for others because blatantness is their hallmark.
Manners.
Mr. Salt is the only parent the Oompas Loompas criticise, have you noticed?
Big cheese.
@Jason Voorhees in this movie violets mother was also responsible for what her daughter became in fact more than Mr salt he tried to stop his daughter from doing what she did, while violets mom was encouraging her daughter to keep on chewing

Wonka bobbing his head while they sing is what makes this scene for me
I love the way they end this scene. It’s such a light end when they say “dad” and push the dad at the same time :)
It fits perfectly into how they used the dads own weight to easily push him down (he was able to fall easily so the song was the same way)

A ha😂😂😂😂 for real though 😂🤷🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️😬
Isn't it funny how the only person Wonka was truly responsible for their fate was Mr. Salt. He told Mr. Salt he could "just reach in and pull her out".....and then the squirrel shoves him in.

A thing the cat left on the stair,

well if you think about it,he kind of hated all of them from the start, they hated him too lol, so he was taking them to specific places its like he analyzed each on of them and took them into places he knew they'd loose and then pretended like he didnt know what was happening, pretty much like he know that mike would be rebellious in the TV room but he let it happen anyways or how he knew agustus would eat the chocolate so he took them there first, same thing the the blonde girl and the bubble gum, i guess he just saw charlie and was like welp hes the normal one so il let him win

@@andresnavarro5978 Why does a chocolate factory need a television room? Sure, Wonka invented a way to shrink chocolate bars but why can't he just have the factory make normal sized ones? The concept is very weak, I propose it's because Mike loves television and Wonka knew it.

That, and if she resisted her temptation in this room she'd most likely would've beaten Charlie and she would've been the most satisfying winner to
@@Imlizzmitchell This might sound like an odd headcanon, but I think if she resisted her temptation here, she and Charlie would've tied.
