  • It's not just waiting times at A&E: Northern Ireland's entire health and social care system is in crisis - from general practices facing closure, to cancer diagnosis delays.
    It's been almost two years since Northern Ireland's devolved government collapsed - and healthcare professionals warn that things will only get worse, if the political deadlock isn't resolved.

    They should have gotten someone from the DUP on to explain themselves, they supported Brexit and they're the ones refusing to form a government out of sheer pettiness because they can't stomach having the title of Deputy First Minister even though both roles are identical. Unionist voters should also have a good think about that when they can't get any medical treatment.

    Brought to you by the Conservative party. The deterioration of our health and social care system over the past 14 years has been staggering and tragic. The system was already close to collapse and the strain of COVID, the idiocy of Brexit and further cuts have almost finished it off.

    I was in A&E in Craigavon Area Hospital for 8 hours waiting for a blood test result recently, there was an 84 year old lady sat beside me the whole time with a broken pelvis, I don't blame the staff at all as they are trying their best day in and day out, but it's absolutely unacceptable to have an elderly woman sitting for 8 hours in excruciating pain like that.

    The lady who passed away with her cancer not being treated is truly unacceptable that this is happening in the UK in 2024. Hearing Rishi Sunak saying waiting time for some cancer have been reduced and at the same time more people are dying from cancer when he number of death should normally fall.

    • @ItsWendie

      @johngraham8052 Před 6 měsíci

      Well Sunak is a liar. You would think he could remember how many manifesto pledges he broke. I don't fully blame the DUP. They were duped into believing the UK government believed in the union and wanted a 'United Kingdom'. They clearly don't and have sold Northern Ireland down the swannie.
      Only one thing will solve this crisis and that's fixing immigration. I won't say controlling as the number of immigrants in the country is already too high. My last visit to the GP took 3 weeks and four hundred calls to get through. When I attended, not one single person in the waiting room or corridors in and out were white. Says it all. Just look at the hundreds of millions the NHS spends each year on interpreters!

    • @willienelsongonzalez4609
      @willienelsongonzalez4609 Před 6 měsíci +3

      It is exhausting. The medical and nursing staff are caught in a constant battle where they’re trying to see patients quickly and safely against a backdrop of underfunding, staff shortages and lack of capacity. You’re either discharged home or you’ll be admitted, provided there are beds for you to go to. The public berate the healthcare staff and fail to realise that anger and frustration should be directed to senior hospital managers who don’t always have a healthcare background as well as the government who simply don’t care.

    Not surprising that the political issues take precedence over the lives and health of the general public. Politicians have always put their needs and wants above anyone else. In December (it's apparently been like this since the pandemic), I was shocked to see people waiting in the corridors like a third world hospital. This entire country needs reform. MPs should take a MASSIVE paycut and give the money to those in the NHS, who actually deserve it. MPs are there to SERVE, not to be served.

      Most in NI are transplants from Britain. A United Ireland is the only solution here.

      The j@b is prevented from being mentioned. Comment got deleted for saying every elderly person I know who took the sticky pokey either kicked the bucket or got c@nc3r within 2 years.

      The health service would literally collapse without migrant workers. Would you like them to go home and leave you and your loved ones to die horribly next time you are in need of medical attention?

    The free market has a solution for this. In the US when my kids get injured and go to the hospital they get seen within an hour. You're going to pay the bill either way: out of pocket and insurance premiums in the US, or through sky high taxes in Europe. Nothing is free.

      This is due to 15 years of austerity by the conservative government in the UK, muh free market isn’t the answer. 40 years of tax cuts for the rich/social program cuts in the U.S. and UK by right wing legislation has caused harm in both countries. Housing is unaffordable because the wealthy have sufficient funds to buy up entire neighborhoods.
      Eisenhower, a true republican who believed in small government and high taxes/redistribution knew how to run a government. Thank god his philosophy is coming back in the US, Reaganism will die with the boomers and so will the existence of billionaires. The days of 98% sacrificing fair wages for the elites to get rich are soon to be over.

      The American Health System is the very last thing we need in the UK.

      How foolish of a response. The American healthcare system is a colossal failure. Sure your son might be seen in an hour, but suppose he needed surgery and the hospital sent in an anesthesiologist or even a surgeon who doesn’t accept your insurance? Guess what? You’re bankrupt. How many horror stories must you hear until you believe the reality of the situation? Or are you to stubborn, that it won’t sink in until it happens to you? Wait until your parents are thrust into a health crisis and watch everything they’ve worked their entire lives for, evaporate in less then a years time. In the last two years I’ve lost both my grandparents, 2 aunts, a uncle and 2 cousins. The medical bills were astronomical and my family had to step in and save the family farm that they all lived on and still had family members and minor children to think about. My parents did very well in life and even they are being stretched to their limits after the devastating past 2 years. I myself have multiple chronic illnesses, I only go to the hospital after I lose conciseness and someone else calls an ambulance. By the time I hit 30, I was nearing a million dollars in medical debt. I filled for bankruptcy and now 10 years later I’m even deeper in medical debt then before. I can’t have my name on anything, or the hospitals would just repossess or foreclose on anything I own. Please educate yourself on how bad our medical system really is. We aren’t even in the top 10 by any metric.

      Dude, on so many international measures, the health care system is the US is ranked below most publicly funded programs in western Europe and Canada...ranked lower on access to care and health outcomes, but at a much higher cost.

    Foreigners flooding the hospitals.

    • @laurateaho-white9654
      @laurateaho-white9654 Před 6 měsíci

      Healthcare isn't free for foreigners, they have to be a resident and even then they have to pay a IHS surcharge of £1,035 per year. Because of inadequate funding to the HSC and NHS, doctors and nurses are doing their own brexit and moving to other countries. Thats why the hospitals are overcrowded. You can thank the conservative government for that.

      Currently not the case in NI hospitals. They are filled with hate ridden planters.
