Probably the song, Elite off of White Pony
So stoked to see this series back! This was one of the first songs I learned when I got my seven string. Video looks super professional with the multi angles, well done man!
Hey thanks dude! I appreciate you!🤘🎸
The Deftones song is from the White Pony album and the track is called Elite. Great song great riff!! And severed as Jamie Jasta saids “Goes Haaaaarrddddd!!!”
Yeah, sounds a lot like Elite
Beautiful ESP! And deftones as a great insperation!
This is one the heaviest songs I have heard in my 30 plus years listening to metal. First song I heard from Chimaira in 2003. Surpasses Strapping Young Lad's Love.
severed and Sp Lit are my two faves from this album. I bought the guitar tab book for resurrection years ago and it greatly improved my chops/skills on the fret board. My personal riffs almost have a chimaira vibe to them, and i am perfectly fine with that. much thanks for all guitar related info over the years, because you have helped a metal brother out a lot
Awesome man! Happy to help!🎸
One of my top Chimaira songs of all time! Always a banger.
I listen this song currently, is so good!
I never really listened to anything from Chimaira before Resurrection back in the day so it's cool to hear these tracks and you play them. Coincidentally I got my first 7 string earlier this year so this is a great opportunity to learn some Chimaira classics from the man himself, thanks Rob! Great stuff.
That guitar is so beautiful and the Chimaira riffs are pure fire!
Pass Out Existence is soooooooooooo underrated. It was because of this record that I bought my first 7 string and Severed was the first song I played on it
An absolute banger! One of the first Chimaira tunes I ever heard and was instantly hooked. Fast, chunky, brutal, and groovy! Really showcases fun riffage, Mark's insane vocals, and Andol's impeccable drums! Last but not least, I love Spicuzza's contributions. Everything he does is so unique to really identify "Severed". If you get a chance to have him demonstrate what he uses and how he works his magic at some point that would be tremendous!
Love the old school Chimaira riffs, I also like Andols drumming too. "I can't focus" in Marks voice, lets goooooooooooooooooooo
Brings me back to being a sophomore in high school sitting in my writing class wondering what song lyrics I wanted to share With the assignment we were doing. Then another classmate hands me The pass out of existence album and says check this out! That day in class is when I found myself which I didnt even realize I was lost. haha great day in metal
i used to love the little electronic intro to severed from the album done at old live shows…. gave that fuzzy feels before you got pummeled
MORE! We definitely want MORE! Thank you for sharing, Rob!
These song lessons and history are just incredible!
👊
This is a great song for learning to keep your picking hand in sync with interesting rhythms changes.
Thanks for posting this Rob! POoE is probably my favorite Chimaira record, it just clicked with me the most. It's so heavy, the riffs rule and the songs are so damn good. I hope you guys write more 7 string songs too, I love those!
This is a cool tutorial because sometimes you just want to play super heavy songs that aren't too technical.
One of my favorites from this record. It always great to hear this live back in the day.
Love that you're bringing back the quick riffs series! And with a heavy one too!! Cheers brotha 🍻
🤘🥃🎸
@RobArnoldWorld dude this song is one of my all time fav ❤ I can't even tell how many times i've listened or watched the Silence/Severed version you were doing on the Dehumanize Process DVD.
Absolute classic 🔥
Don’t forget that the sample that opens the song was someone in the band sucking through a straw. Might be wrong but always liked Chris’s samples
My gyatt that custom shop is nuts.
That first EP and album are still so damn good and underrated..sure they didnt perform that great but damn are there ever some bangers on them
That verse riff sounds like the main riff in "World in a world" by Violence. 😎
I love when you touch on the Pass out of Existence......That noise you heard on the 7 string I think is string noise behind the nut......a fret wrap behind the nut should kill that completely.
Funny story about this song for me, it was about five or six years ago and it was the middle of summer so all of our windows were open, we didn’t have our AC in yet, even though we should have, and I was blasting Pass Out Of Existence in this song came on, and it got to the part towards the end of the song with the breakdown where Mark was yelling “severed” really aggressively and extremely loud, and it was blaring, and my grandmother who was living downstairs, called me angrily and said “ turn that way down, or off, or put some headphones in, it sounds like somebody’s being murdered up there.”
🤣🤣
One of the heaviest albums ever 🤘
Hahaha that's awesome! Sorry Grams!🤘
@@RobArnoldWorld forreal xD \,,/ \,,/
I d like to see you do one for the song split, I always wanted to know how it's played
It may be coming up next! 🤘
☝YOU ROCK!☝
Cheers Joe!👊
I like severed repeating, so iconic. And slowing the tempo 🔥
Congrats on the 30K subs 🙂🥳
Hey thanks dude!🤘
Love it!! This is the song that hooked me!
The Deftones inspired riff would be 'Elite' (track 3 from White Pony). Also heard a little 'Bored' (first song off first Deftones album) on the palm muted riff between 4 and 3 on the low A. Great explanations, thanks heaps Rob! \m/
I love the multiple angles!! I love this song. Thanks for the video Rob!
Kinda has an engine #9 sound to it. Although that deftones song is in standard, that song inspired so many of my riffs lol! Love these vids tho man!
was always one of my fave songs! loved it, thanks Rob.
been playing this song since it came out back in the day glad to see i was playing it right lol. much love
Just noticed your handle too! 👊
Ever since Ive heard the first album you guys came out with was the day I decided to tune my guitar to drop B, back in 2009👌👌
I always loved that song!
Great song and Great album !!
That's a banger.. and your guitar looks amazing 😍 🔥
Love all the various video content you post Rob! Keep em coming. You’re like the Bob Ross of metal with the lesson vids :)
🙏👊
13:30 I honestly think the simplicity makes it that much more brutal. It works much the same in “Pure Hatred”. Your idea was perfect!! 🤘
Sick one of my favs!
That guitar looks awesome 🤘
Absolutely love that ESP 7 my man! Absolutely sick. Love the transparent black flame maple top.
This is one of my absolute favorites, but you should re record it with a more modern sound and less bs on top. Think of all the other killer riffs that would sound so good now
Merci pour la vidéo, en plus j'adore cette album. 🤟
Bravo mec! 🤘
Badass !!
Steph Carpenter used to wear Chimaira t shirts on stage!
It's an honor!🤘
The guys in Deftones have good taste! I love them too !
Awesome!! I need moar!!
Cool song, cool tiffs! I remember discovering Chimaira’s “Resurrection” video back in time and since then I wanted to cover it but all of the tabs on the internet was so off! And back then I was not good enough at transcribing song by ears. So, would be great to see a lesson of this classy tune! Well, I just noticed you practiced it on the rehearsal video!
That Deftones riff is probably Elite. But it could be Street Carp too. These sortoff riffs is also why i love Chimaira. Especially pass out.
This sounded cool in drop c like on the dehumanising dvd
Hey, I just saw you on CZcams and checked out Chimaira in depth for the first time. I remember hearing about you guys back in the day, but man was I missing out on your music! I love your tones and vibes, bro. You've gained a fan from VA!
#SAVAGE
Awesome man! Thanks for heading down the rabbit hole, and welcome aboard! 🤘
@@RobArnoldWorld yessir!
I love the guitar tone on this album
@RobArnoldWorld got that Chimaira head bang hair growing back!!!!!!
This song just slaps so hard!
I loved this album. It reminded me a little bit of early Korn.
Oh... as a Nu Metal Freak... The Deftones riff I hear is definitely on ELITE from WHITE PONY but also from Headup from Around The Fur. I could be wrong so TeST ME lol!!
also.... Check out the short lived band : CENTOX . I hear them all over this! Love it!
Yessir, it's been confirmed! Elite it is!
Kind of similar to Engine #9 too
YEs!....Keep the POOE lessons comin Rob!
Love the guitar lessons rob. Also love the deftones influence another one of my favourite bands. I think the song is elite. Im going to practice playing severed now didn't know it was an easier song to play
I think the Deftones song you're refering to is 'Elite'... very resembling riff in the 01014101 part
Funny enough, i was just listening to this today Rob
The riff that you mention was Deftones inspired may be inspired by Engine No. 9. They sound similar but I believe deftones were playing in drop C on white pony
Очень хороший ролик, спасибо!! 👍👍🤝🤝🤘🤘🤘
Привет, братан! 🤘
classic ! , one i need to learn is bloodlust :)
Awesome! Here ya go! czcams.com/video/RIV-rxF_IxA/video.html
I never played a 7 string guitar. Sick riff!
The RA-1 is amazing and is one of my dream guitars. I would base a custom shop from those spec's
One of the best tracks on the album😈
i was just listening to this song right before opening this video!
🤘
Pass out of existence pt2 plsssssssssss
I believe the verse riff was inspired by the song Engine No. 9
Jeez. I'm pissed that I forgot how insanely heavy this song is.
5:10 - I'm pretty sure it's "Elite" riff you're thinking about. Same set of notes, same vibe, still, the riff in your performance sounds heavy AF! :)
Hey Rob !
👋
I think I’d be interesting if you played some of these old drop A riffs in drop C. Since it’s sounds tighter and has more attack
Hello Rob. :) I was checking out H3-1000FR Black Burst, it felt really good as well, very light weight, and about similar quality as a Majesty... Didn't appeal to me in photos, shape, but when I tried it myself really loved it, with SS frets, but my mom liked the Gibson SG a lot more, when I tried in store hahaha :D. I loved both! Hahaha Cheers!, Now watching the video!
Cool! So what did you go with?
@@RobArnoldWorld It was a setting goal kind of walk into store hahaha, so none for these days, but likely what my mom liked most for a near future a SG, because I already have Esp’s and other superstrats, I’d love to see you some day having that H3-1000FR though :). I am sure you’ll have blast…
I recorded a really shitty cover of Severed years ago when I did music. I programmed the drums on a drum machine called Hydrogen (only available on Linux), recorded bass, and even the vocals, all by myself. My vocals was the worst part because I just growled the lyrics and I'm not much of a vocalist. Mostly did it for fun and because the drums were easy to program for it.
It never was released though.
POoE is core memory album for me
I always have loved the guitar tone on this album. Of course the whole mix and production is great also. Any insights into any of the gear / effects / post production on the guitars for this album?
This album is PACKED with various effects for sure! As you may have seen in my recent video with Jim LaMarca, EYL ep. 43, we potentially unlocked the 24 year old mystery regarding what amps were used on that record. I've always known the guitar tone was comprised of four different amps combined. Some Line 6, and Yamaha DG130, and then I think a Dual Rec, and now we've learned that the fourth amp was most likely a Bogner Uberschall.🎸
Had to be Elite , right?
Please teach us Rizzo with Steph Carpenter of Deftones
Please do the flame 🔥🔥🔥
Here ya go! czcams.com/video/0XwvVb9AXDk/video.html
Trying to think, the only deftones riff I can think of that it could have come from is “Elite”, but I didnt realize White Pony came out in 2000. Such a cool riff, i think it would be harder to name a metal band that didn’t appropriate that riff in some form lol.
I never got the Deftones reference tbh, it felt like it's own thing in Severed. More like the 1-4 thing which is quite diabolical and used in metal a lot. But if we're talking Deftones White Pony then maybe Elite.
Can we get some more from pass out? Love this album so much, maybe some sphere or let go?
Here's Let Go! czcams.com/video/CcRfuX2orXg/video.html
Can we talk about that guitar? I have the RA600 but this one looks brutal. Is it available for sale? 🤘
It was Rob's first ESP custom, NFS
I wish! However, it's a one of a kind, and more were never manufactured. I've got a video on it if you're interested in hearing more about it! czcams.com/video/7vGhD2yXcNE/video.html
And cheers for being a member of the RA-600 family! 👊
Dude, we basically stole my parents camcorder to record every practice to scrutinize afterward. Good memories.
Think it's Elite if it's from White Pony. Could also be Engine #9?
When is "Left for Dead " lesson coming up Sir 🎉🎉😊😊
Enjoyed this so much! First time I listened to Pass Out in 2002, I had never heard the band, I bought it purely because I visited the RoadRunner Records website every day and they talked about Chimaira (as well as others like Spineshank, Ill Niño, etc etc) and I thought this would be a band I’d like. Fear Factory and Deftones were the first bands I thought of when I put it in my CD changer.
When you played this on 6 strings like on the Impossibility tour did you transpose it or play in a different tuning?
Right on! Yep this song, and a couple others on Pass Out, were easy to play in Drop C on six strings. Thus they weren't quite as heavy, but it got the job done!🤘
@@RobArnoldWorld When I got the Coming Alive DVD & saw the 7s come out I was like “oh shit we’re going DEEEP tonight!”
Thanks for the cool video Rob. What is the guitar scale length and what gauge strings do you use for drop A on the 7 string? Cheers
I'm not sure about the scale length... maybe 25.5"? And I always use 11-52 for all of my guitars, with an additional .60 on a 7 string. Cheers!
Deftones - Elite
Severed chug chug chug chug
When you're ripe you'll bleed out of control you'll bleed out of control
Funny, now when i write Elite type riffs, i call them my Chainara esque riffs
🤘🏻💀
🤘😈🤘🔥🔥🔥
Deftones song elite
