  • No establishment, Westminster or otherwise, will ever silence the voice of the Scottish people - Nicola Sturgeon has told crowds here outside Holyrood.
    (Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News...)
    The First Minister said the Supreme Court's decision not to allow the Scottish Government to hold a second independence referendum showed that the UK was "not a voluntary partnership of nations".
    In Westminster - Rishi Sunak welcomed what he called a "clear and definitive ruling" on the issue.

      Come off it, the Scottish people were asked 8 years ago if they wanted independence and they said no. Sturgeon then immediately set about trying to get another referendum because she can't accept reality. So let's say she got her wish, the UK spent another fortune it doesn't have on another referendum and it comes back the same no answer...guess what Sturgeon will do. Yep, start organising another referendum until she gets the result SHE wants, not the people of Scotland.
      Do you think this is actually about Scotland for Sturgeon? Because it's not. This is about Sturgeon wanting to be able to say she's a world leader. An ego trip. Nothing more.
      Perhaps she should move to a different country.

      It's really simple.. Scotland voluntarily joined the UK union and for a long time it was a benefit but in the modern times the here and now this is not true anymore. Scotland has an extraordinary opportunity to open itself to the rest of Europe which England's is suppressing. Even when we were in the EU, England was not allowing Scotland to benefit from this situation. It has taken time , but this is clear now.. there is an opportunity for Scotland right now.. England has made a terrible mistake but it is opportunity for others.

Scotland would be the lame duck of Europe on it's own as the majority of money used for Scottish public services comes from the UK Government, millions of pounds in what is called the Barnett Formular and England has nothing to do with it as England is a country with no Government being run by large county councils, it is the UK Government that runs the country. Isn't part of the reason that the U.K. is doing worse than it's European neighbors is that they are now paying more for imports, etc. due to Brexit? They are in effect an island in both the literal and figurative sense. As to a vote for Scottish independence...wasn't the last one a vote by all U.K. citizens? Well of course it failed. It makes no sense to me that an independence vote would be conducted outside of Scotland. Because Britain is one nation, and the EU is a union of very separate and very distinct nations. It's not complicated. Rather simple, in fact.
      It's like there is a whole breed of rabid scot nats that don't understand what the devolved government actually is. It didn't break up Britain in to different countries, and it was never meant to. It was meant to ensure that the things that most needed funding and attention would be addressed if national policy meant that other things were being prioritised because that's what Cornwall (say) needed. In much the same way that the mayoral system that was introduced to the UK didn't create city states. Sadly, ever since the SNP has taken power, all the really important things have suffered (things like education, social mobility, life expectancy and other metrics that detail whether a country is succeeding or not), with Scotland falling behind the rest of the UK. Probably because a one policy party has hijacked the devolved government to do something it was never intended to do, and they have little to no interest in things like improving life for their constituents.
      Seriously - go look at the statistics of where Scotland ranked compared to other parts of the UK before SNP seized hold, to the years after. It's awful.

      So, it was Westminster that allowed the last referendum as a once in a lifetime referendum and all the political parties signed on to that.
      The SNP lost.

Be grateful this debate is not going down the path of an out-of-control juvenile tantrum for which law enforcement would not hold the perpetrators of violence accountable. Rule of law and democratic debate are superior to chaos and anarchy that results from the over-throw of a Constitutional democracy.
      Nowadays in the USA if the radical extremist political party disagrees with you, they don't offer rational counter points. They call you a NAZI, and then have the local television news record their anonymous black-clad assassins firebombing your house for broadcast on the evening news program while they announce that they are fighting for truth and social justice against your monumental evil that is trying to kidnap their babies to eat them as a satanic ritual. The psychotic extremists take the "straw man" fallacy to the extreme for their counter point because it gets them attention in the news.
      It's friggin' insanity here as leadership has recently taken a long vacation at one of their many beach-front, gated mansions made possible by the "modest" compensation of public servants which they suddenly acquired after taking public office (note: extremists have never held a real job in the private sector). We can't even take the problem to the FBI as they have now assumed the role of the NKVD by pursuing political opponents with false accusations, a bag full of fabricated evidence, and Stalinist zeal.

Since they ruled that an advisory referndum would not be lawful the SNP aren't doing it. Its not the ruling that prevented an illegal referendum, it was the SNP'd desire to abide by the law that prevented an illigal referendum.
      Just a note: Legitamancy and legality are not one and the same.
      The blocking of a referendum by westminster is legal becuse it is codified. Its not however legitamate if we hold the first principle of democracy higher and believe in iy more than a particular constitutional arrangement.

    What does Scotland have?
    Scotland has only 8.3% of the UK's population. 8.3%! Remember this important figure... 8.3%
    But we DO have approximately......
    32% of the land area
    61% of the sea area
    90% of the fresh water. (There is more fresh water in loch Ness than In England and Wales combined!)
    65% of the natural gas production
    96.5% of the crude oil production
    50% of Europe’s Carbon-Capture Storage Area
    47% of the open cast coal production
    81% of the untapped coal reserves
    62% of the timber production
    46% of the total forest area
    92% of the hydro electric production
    40% of the wind wave and solar energy production
    60% of the fish landings
    30% of the beef herd
    20% of the sheep herd
    9% of the dairy herd
    10% of the pig herd
    15% of the cereal holdings
    20% of the potato holdings
    100% of the Scottish Whisky industry.
    Then add over 70% of Gin production
    We have a...
    17 billion pound construction industry
    13 billion food and drink industry
    10 billion business services industry
    9.3 billion chemical services industry
    9.3 billion tourism industry
    7 billion financial services industry
    5 billion aeroservice industry
    4.5 billion whisky export industry
    3.1 billion life sciences industry
    Scotland still has 350 million pounds worth of textile exports
    Scotland has opened it’s first Goldmine
    We have 25% of all Europes wave and wind energy potential with only 1% of Europe's population.
    We have 1.5 trillion pounds - £1,500,000,000,000 worth of oil and gas reserves.
    All of this, yet only 8.3% of The UK's population...
    Scotland's exports are almost 3 times greater than England’s;
    Our oil reserves are 95 times greater than England’s;
    Our fish landings are 22 times greater than England’s;
    Our natural gas reserves are 15 times greater than England’s;
    Our Gross Domestic Product per Head (GDP) is over £2000 more than England’s;
    We have 7 times more farmland than that of England;
    We produce 18 times more renewable power than England and our tourism industry income is 8% larger than England’s;
    Our tourism is generated largely on the vast natural beauty of our country with its incredible collection of lochs, a lake, rivers, hills and mountains combined with a friendly and hospitable population;

    If your plan for independence is for your economy to be propped up by the tax payer of the place you just got independence from, and for the place you just got independence from to continue supplying military defense, you don't have independence, you just become a dependency. The SNP's plan is to take Scotland from being a country to being on the same level as Guernsey. I hope Scotland one day becomes independent, but not with the SNP.
