      He was the best Bond ever and definitely set the benchmark for all Bonds to chase after, but Minty is wrong about something, at the end he says "The original James Bond", contrary to popular belief Connery was not the first actor to portray Bond, that title actually goes to an American actor named Bruce Nelson, he played James Bond 8 years before Connery did in 1954 in a television movie that was an adaptation of Casino Royale.

    Never Say Never Again was an unofficial remake of Thunderball. Writer/Producer Kevin McClory retained the rights to Thunderball script after a lengthy legal battle. This is how two James Bond films came out at the in the same year. The interesting thing is the NAME of the film. After Sean Connery finished shooting Diamonds are Forever, he said to his wife, Micheline Roquebrune, "That's it, I'll never play James Bond again!". When he agreed to play 007, 12 years later, Micheline said "Never say never again..!" Connery told the story to producers and they decided to name that film Never say Never again, a nod to Connery's return.

      Yep, but the reason some people look at it that way is because it didn't come through the Brocolli production company.
      But it's a stupid argument because it's still Sean Connery as James Bond, and even if it is a rehashed Thunderball so what, it's still James Bond and it's still cool.

    • @SatMornPod
      @SatMornPod Před 3 lety

      McClory and Connery were going to remake "Thunderball" again with a script they wrote called, "Warhead 2000". It would have been the third time the Thunderball story would have been told. Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich were going to be a part of it for Sony, but it fell through in the late 90s/early 2000s.

      Its unfortunate that Never say Never again wasn't included in the anniversary box set of the other 20 films. This was a great set which included a complete seperate disk of extras for each film. I always found the NSNA film to be tough in cheek and I didn't take it as seriously as a Bond story since Connery's performance was great but vastly different then his other offerings. Still love the film though.

      Yes. It seemed like his performance was a lot better here, than in his last two Bond films. Maybe because he wasn’t playing James Bond, but rather a United Kingdom secret agent that was the ultra of cool. For me, it is one of his best roles.

    RIP Sean Connery and well done Minty - another good video tribute to his time as James Bond.
    Never Say Never Again the 1983 film has a family connection in that the health clinic that M sends Bond to near the start of the film was filmed at the beautiful offices and exterior building of British Alcan. Where my Dad worked for many years. This is in Chalfont Park, Chalfont St Peter in Buckinghamshire, Southern England. I also did a work experience there as well several years later.
    I also had another James Bond encounter as Black Park Country Park on the Iver/Wexham border also in Buckinghamshire, was right next to Pinewood Studios where most of the Bond films were filmed.
    In 2001 I found a gap in the hedge on the border of the country park and watched as Pierce Brosnan as Bond plus several actors playing baddies were learning how to control and operate their hovercrafts under a instructor, for the forthcoming film Die Another Day. The set around them had been designed to be "North Korea" and is where Pierce's Bond is tortured during the horrific Madonna song opening titles. Then manages to escape. The film-makers also shot part of the woodland chase scene in the country park itself. Was fascinating to watch
