Debra Lyn, I really appreciate your videos and your paintings. I left watercolor painting about a year ago for sculpting and drawing classes. However, I really miss watercoloring. I am going back in now to create a gift, and after soul searching, I realize that this intuitive style of painting is what I would like to develop. I really like how your flowers turn out. Thanks, Heather

  • @thewanderingbrushwatercolorart

I have been painting flowers for a bit and love love love your approach. My biggest fear is keeping the white of paper, I constantly feel an urge to fill it in! Hoping I can absorb some of your restraint as you let go everywhere else by continuing to watch!😀🌸

First time watching you and love abstract flowers 💐 and your approach! Learned so much watching you, how you added water around the loose strokes “after” to make the soft shadows! The tissue paper trick is ingenious I had little tiny squares of paper towel cut up 😉

Dear Debra, I had to giggle when I first saw one of your tutorials a couple months ago and watched your use of the Dr. PH Martin bleed Proof White. When I first started painting during Covid, I had no idea of what I was doing. I just knew I loved the looser styles. I started watching tutorials and reading books, many books... and started throwing paint at the paper. Some tutorials I watched had a small amount of the PhMartin Bleed Proof White to use as highlights. I had the white on my very small palette and it started mixing it into a darker color here and there and I loved the look on the palette so I intentionally used it for a softer look and to get a soft opaque look. I also like to splatter and one day, I wanted snow flakes on a winter landscape so since I had the bleed-proof and I thought I would use it. Unfortunately (or fortunately, as it turned out for my painting), I spattered while the paint was too wet and low and behold, I loved the results. I started using it more and more to create a soft look to things. I branched out from landscapes to still life and of course that meant flowers. I spattered with the Dr. Martin , very similar to how you use it and the results were very cool. I now use it a lot on my paintings. Your use is a bit more refined but I am headed that way too. Thanks for showing me I wasn't the only Dr. Martin crazy artist out there! Oh....and I love your toilet paper trick, too! You area a very inventive artist.

Oh wow, I’m not alone! Woohoo!! 😂 yeah, I’ve been using it for almost four years. It’s a staple to my body of work. Of course I do plenty of piece without it, but most of the time I just love the effect. Thank you for writing and tuning in! 💕 😊

Hi, I’ve been looking for some good quality large size watercolour brushes. Having trouble finding the really big ones. It seems like past about a 12, I can only find acrylic or oil brushes. Does it matter what medium they were meant for if it’s the size and shape I want?
