I wouldn't say Wapeach is a genderbender of Peach since she's still a female. More like a Peach that is Wa-fied. But other than that, I'd love to see more Wa-fied Mario characters.

1:06 I think the Doronjo comparisons were less about the physical design of her and Warupeach and more their personalities and character dynamics.
Doronjo was a glamorous yet easy to anger and intimidating lady, with the characters Boyacky and Tonzler being her bumbling minions. Thanks to the popularity of these characters, the trope of a trio made of a glamorous female villain and two dumb male minions became a popular trope in Japanese animation and other media. The most famous example being Jessie, James and Meowth from the Pokémon anime.
Therefore the reason Miyamoto likely shot down the idea of the Warupeach character wasn’t her design, but rather her personality and dynamic with Wario and Waluigi being too similar to a character archetype that, at this point in the late 90s/early 2000s, had become overused and stale.
Was gonna do a writeup about the Doronbo gang myself, as I figured no one here would have ever heard of them, I'm glad to have been proven wrong! o7

I think another part is that I don't think Nintendo knew about Waluigi being heavily based on Doronjo at the time and didn't want to make it seem like they're ripping them off.

I think she would have made a good addition. If it was between her and waluigi I think waluigi was by far the best choice. He is just the natural brother for wario and the Mario brothers duo makes more sense.

I always love learning about ideas and concepts that get left on the curting room floor, and Wapeach is one of my favorites. I love her design and personality description. I would love to see her in an actual game someday. One where she's the new evil force in the kingdom, opposing Princess Peach, with Wario and Waluigi as her bumbling minions. That would be awesome.

1:10 You lack context. Doronjo from the legendary anime Time Bokan and Yatterman has 2 minions. The minions has similiar appeareance with Wario and Waluigi. The tall and skinny and fat and short character tropes. With Wapeach personality who is mean and like to order around Wario and Waluigi, she is the same as Doronjo.
This is one of my favorite villain tropes of all time. The foil villain trio. Apparently, this is more popular in Japanese media tho. Another example of this but with a different variation are the Team Rocket.
That trope was incredibly over-saturated in Japanese media at the time, so it does make sense that it would be seen as gimmicky instead of creative.
I absolutely adore seeing the recent art surrounding this cut character. It shows that the fans are really in love with the concept and the character itself. I'm hoping Nintendo at least sees this as a good thing and maybe include her in official Mario media, though I unfortunately doubt it (It would be cool tho)

There was a concept of Bowsette in a Mario game. In the art of Mario Odyssey, there was a comic where it suggested bowser also had a cappy mechanic similar to Mario in the game. When he used it, he threw it at peach and created something similar to bowsette.

For those who want more info, Thomas Game Docs does a video "The Mario character Nintendo rejected" about this.
The Doronjo remark is due to his design for Waluigi was inspired by Boyacky Butsukusa, who was part of the same group as Doronjo. Miyamoto was taking a jab at him for being unoriginal.
Honestly could’ve been fun. Developers have always implied that Wario and Waluigi are just partners in crime, so having an opposite Peach that despises her teammates could’ve made that dynamic more obvious and fun
the Mario franchise kinda suffers from too obvious moments imo, so if that is the reason then i'm fine with it
(to be more clear: there many moments in the games where characters are like "who could possibly be doing this?" and its always Bowser, every time Bowser is defeated they want you to think that its over but then Kamek shows up and you always know what is gonna happen
or like any time you enter a "scary" zone, you always know whats gonna happen)

Nintendo nearly 20 years later: this new Grass-type starter looks oddly familiar but we can't quite put our finger on it, but let's use it anyway
Koopa Peach actually had a basis in reality due to an older bit of concept art detailing the final battle in Mario Odyssey. in this draft, Bowser was paired with an "evil cappy" and could possess other creatures, giving them Bowser-traits. In the final battle, Bowser having no other option, throws his hat at Peach, possessing her and giving her Bowser Traits.
However as the plot got reworked, the evil cappy character was eventually dropped and the final battle was changed, but the remnants of the evil cappy plot are still present due to Bowser's obsession with attacking with his hat, and the fact he kidnaps Tiara, who is the sister of Cappy.
But Bowsette was made well before those early drafts leaked.

This little fact was actually around the Nintendo fan base for a while now. Those of you who are familiar might recognize most prominently from, “Did you know gaming.” For this little detail to suddenly get nice amount of attention in memehood much after the fact is pretty sweet

As a big tatsunoko fan, I thought wapeach was just a fan drawing of her. Glad you mentioned the resemblance though. If you've seen the interactions with doronjo and her minions, you'd get where he was coming from.

That design looks pretty decent honestly. Maybe the name could be reworked but it’s a shame Miyamoto rejected it. Oh well. At least we got Waluigi still!

Clarification the art was from the GameCube game Mario tennis and not the n64, at that time they had an idea but miyomoto didn’t even want to see it, until the sequel where they tried to get her to actually be greenlit.
Given how much love their was for all things Wa in the GameCube era, I feel Wapeach would have been so much fun to have.
Honestly, I can see why the “Wario and Waluigi are her minions” thing wouldn’t work now, and may seem outdated. Sure Waluigi might bite, but Wario’s *WHOLE* schtick is that he’s overconfident, and lets nobody control or manipulate him, not to mention, he always gets what he wants. His catchphrase is literally, “I’m-a number wahn!!!” This is always prominent in all of his games too, as in the Warioland games, he is an unstoppable force that lets nothing get in his way.
Well in canon, Wario is the leader of his gaming company, so it does make sense for nobody to top him. Otherwise the whole Warioware would not make any sense.
Unless WaPeach has an entirely different role that doesn't relate to Wario. Much like Syrup, who rivals Wario but she has her own army to work with.

I was thinking about the waluigi version of Peach yesterday, i didn't know the new batch of wario memes were because of a leak.
It should be noted that the similarities between Wapeach and Doronjo aren't exclusively appearance. If you look at Doronjo's minions, you'll see why.
Nintendo: "This character design is too similar to another, we can't use it."
Also Nintendo: "Ah yes, another unique and distinctive Fire Emblem character the fans are sure to love, put it in immediately!"
First of all Fire emblem is fully developed by Intellect systems who have been their own vision

About the Doronjo comparison
Doronjo had two minions that bared a resemblance to Wario and Waluigi. Wapeach’s dynamic between Wario and Waluigi was supposed be like Doronjo and her minions (I deadass don’t know their names, and I played Tatsunoko Vs Capcom). I’m guessing that was why she was dropped due to how too similar to her

Personally, I think a company should be showing scrap designs and concept art more. It's a perfect way to see what ideas the fans gravitate towards. And if it's popular with a certain demographic, what did including that idea be a good way to attract that audience? Also, in comparison to Sonic, the Mario franchise is lacking in proper character-characters (as opposed to any races), so why not flesh out the roster with more rivals.
P.S. Since Daisy is often headcannoned to be a crazy party girl of sorts I think it would be funny if Wadaisy had a st#ner-esque personality (probably not doing any actual dr#gs for obvious reasons, but could get away with making her obsessive mushrooms).

But in Nintendo's view, if they really do show scrapped designs, fans mya keep asking questions and that could bother their daily work and other ongoing projects. Like, people would just question why they chose Kate in Mario Tennis but not WaPeach.

I think a lot of this can be chalked up to people being way more into badass female characters nowadays, and that's likely the vibe people got from her being the 'anti' peach (especially the anti old peach. its only very recent that the princess has regularly gone on adventures WITH mario instead of as the damsel).

As a certified Waluigi and Daisy fan, this just about the best character I have ever seen. The Mario and Luigi style art convinced me that a Bowser's Inside Story could have easily been Bowser and Wapeach gameplay. And I want it so bad.

The Doronjo reference was actually confirmed by the creator, especially the way she would have bossed Wario and Waluigi around like Doronjo did with her minions.
In general the artists shared many comments before privating his account and he also said that the design was only finalized for the Gamecube game while the N64 one only had a name and a vague idea.

Miyamoto referred the idea as Doronjo from Yatterman as she has minions that is fat and the other is lanky, just like Wario and Waluigi.
Coincidentally modern remake of Yatterman depicted Doronjo as a little girl, so if Wapeach would've been a thing, that's probably how Wa-gang would've looked like

More precisely, if NIntendo want to introduce a new main character, s/he should debut in a major story first.
I mean, she could work in a sports game kinda, but a Mario and Luigi game could be an interesting thing, where perhaps in this case Mario and Luigi get sucked into a strange dimensional shift that places them in the Wah-dimension, where the denizens of the word are their more corrupt alternate reality counterparts. Wahpeach being the pauper ‘queen’ who the bro’s initially help out, thinking it’s peach and she takes advantage of their naivety to try and claim the power needed to rule the land, and then spread her power across all dimensions. Her ambitions aside, on the other end, you have wario and waluigi, both foils for mario and Luigi and rivals for much of the game, with the 2 causing chaos in the mushroom kingdom and using the dimensional Cracking hammer to open new holes between the worlds predominantly for profit. Of course, how wario and waluigi got the dimension cracking hammer… stole it and used it to claim more riches of other dimensions. This is a problem because every smashed hole in reality causes dimensional flooding and the eventual destruction of reality itself. This eventually ends up letting in Extremely evil and dangerous monsters into reality.

This was a good video but you missed some details on what happened, the character was denied, because Waluigi was already explicitly designed after Doronjo, Miyamoto was upset after finding out that connection, so he didn't even want to see what his next character was, regardless of how much it even looked like Doronjo.
