I’m getting an old leg vise tonight. I’m wondering what the leg vise is good at that the normal carpenter’s vise isn’t. Like the 9” quick release face vise. Where does the leg vise really shine?

The Leg vise is probably the most versatile, as it has good amount of space to clamp over the screw, and you can clamp boards straight up alongside the screw, specially if you have a similar thick board to clamp on the other side. Where it really shines is clamping long board along the side of the bench, and it has good amount of clamping space between the bench and the vise.
The perhaps best vise is the scandinavian, but it is somewhat less versitile in that you can't clamp long boards past the actual vise, but you can clamp them from the vise and back alongside the bench. The scandinavian has the best clamp, as it directly clamps the board, having the screw straight behind it, while a leg vise clamps at an angle. The Scandinavian is the joiners bench, sinch it's so easy to clamp boards straight up, to saw tennons and dovetails, a legvise is not as good for this action, but will work when clamping a board of similar thicknes on the other side of the screw.
Some. like the RenaissanceWW have made a small joiners bench alongside the Ruobo, otherwise you could use a Moxon vise and clamp it to the Roubo, or have a end vise with 2 screws, that does the same thing, you could still fit a tail vise beside it.
I have the Leg vise and the quick release face vise as a end vise, but i don't use the quick release nearly as much, since when useing it to clamp boards between bench dogs, it does not have the screw aligned with the bench dog holes, and it scews. I also would much more prefer a legvise as a face vise than the quick release, it's truly only good at clamping boards horizontal, and your limited to the short amount of debt.

Shannon, are you aware that at least one of these videos (#74) by someone in the UK due to "copyright infringement"? Not sure why this would be true.
